West Indies at 166-9 , sir viv at 96* , Micheal Holding came to the crease, they both had a partnership of 106 runs and 93 runs came from sir viv's bat. Sir viv scored unbeaten189* runs and broken the record of Kapil dev's 175* runs who had scored in 1983 world cup .What an Absolute Legend he was 🙏 Greatest Player ever played the Game.

There are players who have scored higher innings, more runs, more 100s and 50s but this man remains one of the greatest batsmen I have ever seen. So effortless and smooth. A flick of the wrist and it’s gone for 6.

Sir Viv Richards is the best ever in the history of Cricket. Irrespective of the nationality all spectators wanted him to be not out in the middle. No arm guard no chest guard no helmet, still lives without any harm, only secret was his eyes. Once he had told a reporter you must develop your skill to see the ball very well. Secret of his success. Long live Sir Viv Richards. Greetings from the pearl of the Indian Ocean.

Best ever? no, incredible batsman, yes. Closest to Richards I have seen since him is Kohli, both have an unbelievable ability. They are the type of batsman you want your team to get out cheaply but you'd really like to see them bat for an hour as well
@Wally-H

@@bannedspencer Richards was the best ever, no doubt about it. You have to remember in his day, no power plays and silly fielding restrictions, plus those old bats were nowhere near as effective as they are now. He was the most naturally gifted player there has ever been. Also, like all truly great players, he could pull an innings out of the bag when his team most needed it.

@@Wally-H Having to remember??? Ha, I watched him come over to smash my teams bowlers since 75. It may be hard to believe but in75, he was a better fielder than bat...that is how good he was in the field. Agree though, even with the old bats he could clear the MCG boundary when it was 100 metres In my time watching cricket he was the most annoying bat to bowl to followed closely by Tendulkar and Gilchrist

Richards's batting style was nothing like Bradman's but in fact more like Walter Hammond's who was also a thunderous master blaster style player. Tendulkar is the player whose physical batting style actually most mirrored Bradman's. In terms of phenomenal run scoring and unrivalled average compared to other in his own or other eras, Virat Kohli is the 'Bradman of one day cricket' if we want to bandy such tags about so cheaply.

I never compared the playing shots, or their characters because they were quite different. Also, I was not saying on the basis of stats that you said about Virat. No doubt'He is the greatest batsman of all time.His style'technic made him the greatest batsman.What a real cricket was that.That was golden period of cricket.It is beyond to match that golden period with today's cricket.That was a classic era of cricket.As we can't compare that era of cricket with today's cricket.we can't compare those old majesticall cricketer with today's cricketer.We should also must to watch Javid miandad as a player and batsman.Alen border'Botham'Marton crow'D'Haynes'Imran Khan'Richard Hadley'Lillie'Michal holding'Walsh'They wre the real legends of all times.They played the real cricket with great spirit.Today's cricket is rather glamour'show and cricket for money.Today's cricket is just like a body without soul.I love to watch that old times cricket.

fiery n majestic batting with sheer power and grace. undoubtedly A roaring lion on the pitch always hungry of runs with eagles eye n what a timer of the ball with effortless strokes . Undoubtedly a master blaster with no comparison. A true genius of the game n what a treat to watch this batting legend with a chewing gum in the mouth n not sparing any bowler right from the 1st ball faced. so long as he is there on the pitch it's like missiles coming out of a tank. Sir I.V.A Richards my iconic role model with a bundle of pure technique, aggression, power and elegant style. Please accept my inner feelings and oblige as you cannot be just described by words. sir U are beyond that.

Great. Thanks for putting this up. Absolutely sensational innings. It stands up even today. Back then it was as if the great man was playing a different sport to all other batsmen. Also the commentary from Jim Laker and Ted Dexter, two magnificent players themselves, really put the innings into perspective, even as it was happening. As Ted Dexter said, "we're really seeing something here!". How right he was.

Style of his own. ' might is right ' type of batting. No decent placements, no excellent drives, nil late cuts, no upper cuts, all were rough and airy shots. Astonishing knocks, but not entertaining. Also, the bowling was not that good. All WIs were playing similar shots. However, that was his day. Was admiring Richards' play before Sachin's debut. But, our little master has plundered our hearts with his amazing variety of shots with all decency. I prefer Sachin as more entertainer than Viv.

Sobers, Barry Richards, Greg Chappell ( look at his stats) were all very great players but so are the modern greats Lara, Tendulkar et al.
