Күн бұрын

Follow this in-depth series as we seek to restore a classic Bedford CF, as well as design and build a habitation unit, in a bid to create a unique campervan.
In this episode, we give a run down on where we're at with the project, after almost two years laying dormant whilst we travelled across the Balkans in our LDV Convoy. We are joined by Chloe and Peggy-Sue, two familiar faces on KZfaq, otherwise known as Retro Renovations. Chloe begins to tackle the mess that is left of the cab, by cutting, welding and working her magic, slowly bringing the original character of the vehicle back to life.
When Retro Renovations leave, we get to work laying the flooring in the back box and attaching the rear wall.
We're inching ever closer to having a solid structure to work with.
We'd love to hear what you think so drop us a comment below and we'll get back to you!

Great project. Enjoyed Chloe's (if that's how it's spelt) rust repairs. A really daunting job, great results. Looking forward to seeing how you build the body, insulation and finish etc. I would probably have started with a body I could convert but that would probably be more of a compromise. If you knew more you might not have attempted this but I don't doubt that it's going to be a success.

Welcome back. Great to see you again. I had one of those CF Bedfords with the same engine. Lacking in power especially with a bit of weight in the back. Here in Australia we often replaced them with a Holden engine. Also check the A frame bolts are tight, they can come loose. Mine fell apart at 60kms and almost killed me.

Ok love you for your honesty! Now bare with me I've come up with a radical idea 💡!! stop the restoration immediately! I think it's going to be cheaper to have the van stationary and have a big screen of rolling countryside and beauty spots playing on it , once a day you empty the onboard compost loo for whoever is hiring the Bedford! What do e think ? I think it's a marvellous idea it will save a fortune
@FromRustToRoadtrip
@FromRustToRoadtrip 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And you’re pretty spot on there, as we’re hoping to buy a small piece of land to put the Bedford on and hire it as a stationary AirBnb type thing as we’re a bit worried about people driving such a massive van on narrow Cornish roads 😅 So we’re trying to build the van for both possibilities but hoping we can just park it up somewhere for people to enjoy
@julianhastings1547

That's a safe idea guys , not many people are as intrepid as you two , I love the sense of humour of the Cornish lanes the sides look all green and fluffy but there's granite under the 3 inches of turf ! Lol 😆

Love what you're trying to achieve and have always enjoyed your videos. Just feel I need to say that I understand you're working to a tight budget and I appreciate your resourcefulness however safety should always be your first concern. I've been a vehicle body repairer 30 odd years now and have welded many old cars but feel I need to say that structural integrity is everything. My personal view is that when taking on a project like yours is that if can't be done safely on your budget then it shouldn't be done at all. Sorry guys. Just feel really strongly about this.
@FromRustToRoadtrip

New sub my friends. I’m a bit like use I’m young a bought a yacht to travel the world in yet I’m still in my 2 bedroom house like a fool. So last year I bought a vw t4 multivan to do some inland traveling instead. So mite sell the boat but I’ll see. Love this video tho if your paying someone to make a mess out of your van you should make that mess yourself that way you no when your on the road you can fix your van at no cost at all. Love the video and I’ll watch some of your early stuff now me thinks

If thats a 2.3 petrol engine the fuel usage will kill you. Company i worked for had 4 of them, 3 with boxes, 1 van, they were sold after 1 year due to the running costs, replaced with diesel transits. Welcome back by the way.

Thanks for the info! As this will be a hire van fuel consumption isn’t such a priority, but we will see whether it can actually pull the load behind it!

I second that...i had a bedford cf 2.3 petrol and i was lucky to get 15mpg out of it.... Also protect your glass ie windscreen and door windows when cutting metal with a grinder or it will bugger them up...all the best with it...

I've been seeing an unloved 1983 Bedford Camper near me for a while. Been SORN for the last two years. I feel the urge to see if the owner would sell, but have no idea what sort of price is sensible.

If it helps at all, we paid £500 for ours in a fairly bad state, but that was just a chassis cab

@@FromRustToRoadtrip Thanks for the response. How challenging do you think it'll be to find engine parts? Has the same 2.3 Petrol.

Probably quite hard, there’s loads of bits we’re after but struggling to find! But join some CF pages on Facebook there are usually people breaking them on there

One of my pet issues, an idiot using an angle grinder with no wheel guard.

@@FromRustToRoadtrip Obviously you have never had to take someone to emergency to have their hand repaired... Sorry to be blunt but this a common injury, it may seem a small issue on a small angle grinder but they can do a lot of damage, but progress to some picking up a 9” grinder without a guard which if the disc let’s go can and do remove fingers or worse. This is also related to checking the rpm speed limit on a disc, if exceeded or of dubious quality they can shatter and can travel a surprising distance.

I feel totally blessed to have you two back on youtube :) Missed you guys and so looking forward to your renovation work , top marks to you both taking on the restoration work , I'm sure you both are going to get many more subs, and deservedly so , Stay clear of the neg heads , I listened to to many of them when I wanted to put a wood burner in my Landrover defender 110 so I could enjoy camping in the winter months and its been a total success and I've been able to go camping in the winter months and be toasty warm along with my dog :) had i listened to the neg heads i would have scrapped my idea and would have missed many a weekend camping in the winter . I'm currently not working but really want to support you guys so if a pound a week is good for you then consider me a patron :) .Please check out my woodburner video and wishing you both a productive 2021 .

Oh thanks so much for your lovely comment! 💙 We’re really glad to be back making videos again, it’s been too long 😄 That’s a great story about the Land Rover, didn’t realise you could even fit a wood burner in one; we’re 100% getting a wood burner in our next van, and the Bedford. Will check out your video ☺️ And we’ve had quite a few wobbles based on what ‘experts’ on the Internet think so it’s always good to get a second opinion from someone who knows what they’re talking about. That’s very kind of you to offer to be one a Patron too! Any little bit helps and it’s amazing to know that people like what we’re doing enough to support us so thank you ☺️
