Front Mission Gun Hazard is an action RPG for Super Famicom that never saw a release in North America. It's an incredibly polished game with a with lots of customization and a ton of replay value, and well worth a look for English-speaking audiences. 🍖
The introductory animation and outro text were created and designed by Saad Azim.

Oh man I LOVE this game! I played this game so much as a teenager, it was incredible and when I got my SNES mini it was the first game I loaded onto it. You didn't mention this in the video but the character designer was none other than Yoshitaka Amano of Final Fantasy fame! And I personally think he did a stellar job. Thanks for covering this, it brought a smile to my face

This is great to hear! I was pretty blown away by how much fun this game was, and I'm convinced that most people that know about it also feel the same. I recognized the art style from the front of Final Fantasy Origins for the PS1 actually... someone mentioned to me that it was Amano and it definitely made sense immediately! It's such a recognizable style!

I feel like the Front Mission series as a whole doesn't get enough love. I've always wanted to give this one a shot. It's kind of funny because in the beginning, when I first started Final Fantasy 6, there was this brief moment in time where I really wanted it to have more giant mech combat in the game, have an upgradable mech system, and imagined a whole RPG experience with giant mechs in it and a deeply immersive storyline. Little did I know that that game that I dreamed about playing actually existed it just didn't exist in the U.S. The story of my life. I know exactly what I want, but I don't know how to get it until I'm so old that I don't even want it anymore.

This game definitely belongs to the better looking ones on the console. Not only in terms of mecha sprites, backgrounds and such. Menu and overlay design fit perfectly into the overall look of it. Today I see this title in a completely new light because I've been obsessed with it's developer OmiyaSoft's previous & debut game - Lord Monarch on Mega Drive - for the past six months, an adaptation of a Japanese PC real time strategy game which is truly like nothing else and utterly brilliant.

I enjoy this game. I prefer the original and honestly I've only played thru this once but I did have fun with it and I thought it looked great. I love the visuals. The color palette in particular was a real highlight for me. I enjoy games with different visual sensibilities. I'm glad you had fun with it too. It's an underrated game. I don't love it as much as a lot of people but I did enjoy it and I might play it again So, this game reminds me of a story. I was a very young boy in the late 80s and early 90s so I grew up with a lot of robots in TV/games/film and I was fascinated by them. So when I was eight I had one of those Tomy robots that talked and blew smoke and it scared the HELL out of my lil brother. He was four. So a couple times I snuck the robot into the living room and suddenly turned it on when my brother was watching TV or something. He would scream and run away and everybody just died laughing. Eventually my dad said "Okay, would you stop terrorizing your brother please?" I told him if I showed him that it was just a toy it would be good for him. He wasn't buying it. We still laugh about it. My brother was so scared of that robot. Anyway, just a funny aside. Hopefully it made you chuckle

Not too many people have had the chance to play this one, so it's great to chat with someone that actually has. I'm glad you enjoyed it too, even if it didn't topple anything off the top of your favourites list or anything. That's a very cute story about your little brother. I can appreciate that kind of torture coming from a big family and I'm glad that you guys can laugh about it now. Siblings do some pretty mean-spirited things to one another as kids that usually make for some good memories later in life. Thanks for the laugh!

Might be interested in checking out Metal Warriors for SNES. It came out 3 years after Cybernator and was obviously VERY inspired/lifted from it. But in my opinion it did a way better job of polishing the feel and gameplay. The story is paper thin and it's a pure action game with no RPG elements, but it's definitely still Cybernator in its soul. It also has some of THE best head to head competitive 2 player on the SNES.

I was really impressed with this one; the story was very deep and intricate, and the mech gameplay didn't feel as clunky and unwelcoming as a lot of them do. Since I'm terrible at Strategy (Real-Time or Turn-Based), this is the only game in the series I'm able to play, but at least it's a good one!

I wonder if I'll be any good at strategy RPGs when I finally get into my first one. I did really enjoy this game despite it dragging a little bit in a few spots. The translation patch was really well done.

@hungrygoriya
@hungrygoriya 2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... I think you'd probably need the English patch to play this one. There's a lot of story, but your directives for each stage are probably also given in Japanese. I'm not sure if the menus are in Japanese too without the patch. I'm not sure though!

@JimmyStrings

@@hungrygoriya I didn't figure a way out. I restarted the game and when I got to the first city area, (the third area I believe) I encountered the same problem. I get to the marker that shows you the end of the level and nothing happens. I feel like there is something obvious that I'm missing. I combed the level back and forth looking for more enemies but it seems empty now. Weird. In the gameplay I watched you walk the wanzer up to the marker and then the screen fades and you get the mission accomplished screen.
@hungrygoriya
@hungrygoriya 2 жыл бұрын
@@JimmyStrings Hmmmm... I wonder what the trouble is then. I don't really remember having to kill certain number of enemies to trigger the end to show up unless there was a big encounter at the end of an area but it's also been a while since I played.

"My wiener friend Clark" should've been how that caption went, haha... and yeah, such a gorgeous bunch of visuals here. I didn't even need to say it in this review because it did such a good job speaking for itself. I appreciate the kindness about the script too... it took me forever to figure out exactly what I wanted to say about this game since there was so much to cover, but I also didn't want to give it all away either.
