so i'm pretty sure i didn't see michael allen patton in any of these lists...deliberate omission, or you just didn't think of him? given the passion of many of his fans, that'll probably pump your numbers a bit. plus, he has different versions of himself: the mr. bungle patton is not the faith no more/tomahawk patton is not the mondo cane patton is not the dead cross patton, etc. i actually don't care for the mondo cane version (except in the song urlo negro), or the fantomas version. of course, the miracle of patton is that the fantomas and mondo cane pattons are the same as the faith no more/tomahawk pattons.

When we (Chimaira) were on the show Farmclub (right before we signed to Roadrunner), they try to get the big bands to hang out with the unsigned bands, to make them feel like they equal peers…. The only band to hang out with us, was Incubus. Nicest guys ever. You’d never know they just got bigger than Jesus, by how down to earth they were.

Nice to see Layne on S Tier. Very underrated along with Alice in Chains(compared to Nirvana and Pearl Jam). Yes he was a Yarler but he did it naturally and didn't lean on it like most bands of the 90's(looking at Creed), he could actually sing. Guy could really make you feel things with his voice and was very influential, so many singers after Layne tired to imitate him.

Incubus is one of the greats and if you haven't heard them in a while, definitely a great reminder of why we all love them. The hits of course, but songs like "Here In My Room," "Echo," "Megalomaniac," est. are so much better than they get credit for. Honestly, aside at most 5-7 songs, every album is great all the way through

Incubus is a deeply amazing band. A great group of stand up individuals. DJ Killmore actually enhanced the band quite a bit.
@muenchhausenmusic
@muenchhausenmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Agree. A DJ isn't only record scratches, they're basically a producer onstage who can provide all sorts of background sounds that producers would add on a studio recording anyway. Which, if the DJ weren't there, would either be missed live or have to be done with backing tracks. But bands like Incubus, LP or LB can bring the full sonic richness in a live setting, and I think that makes a difference, albeit often a subtle one

The reason Layne isn't higher on general rock singer lists is because his body of work was so small. As iconic as their Unplugged performance was, it's kind of tough to watch considering what his voice sounded like from 89-92. Those are the years to search for concert videos because heroin was really starting to affect him in 93. He had such a toxic relationship with his ex fiancée Demri and when he got clean in 93, his dad came back into the picture to mooch drugs and Layne never kicked it again after December 93. He would just hold up in his condo playing video games. Was too embarrassed, but just couldn't kick the addiction. 1989: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/opuDe8yXmr_ZmZ8.html 1990: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/arupi5CcztnNk40.html 1991: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m6p1p6l63rHNpGQ.html 1992: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/orGfjM530MW4h6s.html The producers and sound engineers would ask him to do another take, Layne would say "Nope, you got your take." and Layne would be right. People said you could hear Layne's voice over all of the stage noise too.

I think the guys in Incubus are actually pretty humble. Brandon sure is on the artsy intellectual side but doesn't seem entitled at all. Especially now since they're older. They have a song that is about that topic, called State of the art. How they are basically now considered old and the Zeitgeist has moved on, even though they feel like they have just figured out who they are. Imo one of their best songs on one of their worst albums (which was co-produced by Skrillex btw)

Completely agree, I forgot that he brings it live, too. The whole band is ridiculously talented at what they do. Mike Einziger (guitarrist) co-wrote Avicii's Wake me up and Lovers on the sun. This was during Incubus's hiatus, and he used that time and enrolled in university to study composition. Which imo says a lot about a person, the fact that they value their craft. If you do that, especially after already having achieved the level of success he has, it probably means that you're a pretty humble person who puts their craft before their ego

Whenever you make that video about Evanescence, you gotta talk about how not only were they retconned into being “good actually” but also seemingly retconned into being emo. I see Bring Me To Life on all sorts of emo playlists on Spotify right next to MCR and Fall Out Boy. I always thought they were nu Metal but I guess we’re wrong.

A totally forgotten and underrated vocalist is Martin Fry from the band ABC. They had a lot of hits in the 80s but have since been forgotten, but I saw them live back in 2016 and they were amazing. Martin is in his 60s but he’s still an incredible vocalist, and the band themselves are pretty underrated for 80s pop standards

I remember seeing Arch Enemy/Trivium tour and Alissa broke her in ear monitors 3 songs in and did the rest of the set without hearing herself or her bandmates, they had no stage monitors. That’s a high class act and vocalist, especially in the age of technology where in ears are everything.

"God Save the Queen" is the song that generally turns me off when it comes to Sex Pistols. I really like Johnny Rotten's work after Sex Pistols with Pubic Image Ltd and his song with Afrika Bambaataa. Not the biggest Sex Pistols fan but "Pretty Vacant" in particular is pretty undeniably great.

Imo Incubus really hit their stride with the two albums following Morning view (where Wish you were here was from). Incredible drumsound on those records, Brendan O'Brian's signature piccolo snare, and all the drum parts are so damn catchy! Also, something about the vocals on Morning view just rubs me the wrong way, they're kinda icky. Brandon also got way better after that imo, the band found itself with A Crow Left Of The Murder
