I think this a fabulous gift. Just on the convenience and saved money it's great. Costco Charmin cases are up to $29 now. ( I always wait for sale of $5 or $6 off.) Additionally TP is much better than a knick knack or clothing item you don't need or want. Recently I gave a bachelor friend some Kirkland cooked roast beef as part of a birthday present. Some people are so hard to buy for . . .

I bought my mom toilet for Christmas this past Christmas. One day my retail store I work at had to marked down and there was a sale on it. In order for the sale to work I had to buy two. That shop was such a good deal. I’m stocked up on tp personally as well. I’m a snob on my tp.

I am a family of one. I have to be 100% self reliant. I know that I use 1 1/2 rolls of toilet paper a week, so that means I need over 75 rolls for a year's supply. My goal was at least 2 years supply of ALL I will need and I worked hard to get that. Do I care what people think about that? NO. I search out deals regularly and I have a good idea of what I have and what I need. For example, right now I'm low on canned tomatoes but have a case of tomato paste. It's not as difficult as I thought it would be once I got the hang of it. So, now I shop from home because I have a stocked pantry. A big relief from the stress of fickle prices and fake shortages.

Hi cutting baby wipes in half helps to. And if your water gets cut off because of bad weather you still have something to clean your hands with. Keep extra bottles or gallons of tap water under the cabinet sink when you need it to flush the toilet for emergencies. I hope this helps. You can buy tissue at the dollar for 1.25 and for 12 rolls you'll spend about 3.75 plus tax.

I am a nurse, and by the time I got off work every day, there was no tp left anywhere. I would go from store to store to store. I had a friend buy me a bulk from Costco twice. But other than that, I bought no tp for over a year. Then, when it came back, I bought a Costco pack every week until I had 15 packs. Lol... I still feel like I need to buy it... it was a traumatic time for many.

I used to have a chest freezer gifted to my family by my grandmother. It was like forty years old. What I did was buy the plastic clear bins with lids. One thing about T- Paper it does NOT go bad. Also, due to Inflation you have SAVED MONEY by not having to pay a higher price. I have stocked up on T- Paper before Costco changed the roll size but kept the same price. So it was shrink inflation that I beat. It's just my wife and myself, but still I think I may need to buy more in 2040....lol We do an inventory update every 6 months and it's all in the computer for reference. This includes all foods can and frozen, dry and HaBa goods (Health & Beauty). Also pet goods ( 4 cats). Our goal, with Inflation running crazy and not stopping and supply chains out of whack, our thought is better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it. If it can't expire or go bad like T- Paper there's no down side of having more when prices are going nuts

We do a freezer and pantry "eat down" twice a year. I don't grocery shop during that time except for perishables and I make a point of using up stuff we already have, oldest to newest. By the time we get to the end, we might have some rather unusual meal combinations, but it's how I make sure we don't have expired food, freezer burnt meat and so forth. It's so easy to get carried away.

Husband has some “thing” about tp. No idea what or how, but his family broke him. If I do not have a MINIMUM of one unopened 32 roll pkg, he PANICS. Seriously. Just before lockdown, bjs had some stock up sale. I bought 5 32 pks, 3 5 pks of Clorox wipes, one 12 of paper towel and enough downy products to wash the neighborhoods clothes for a year! None goes bad, so why not (right?)? Still working thru the wipes and paper towels and on the last of the downy stuff. If I EVER got to one roll, I’d have to have him taken to a padded room. I currently have 4 unopened 32 pks of mega rolls, plus two sleeves that didn’t fit in the cabinet (a HALF a 32 pk!) as well as a full cabinet. I will soon go to bjs, and will get another (if they have a full pallet AND a sale. That is the one item I am never short on. Oh! And I have probably 1 1/2 32 pks stored in bins in the motorhome. Last visit with family, I had to take a sleeve into their house because he was so upset his sister didn’t refill the guest bath and the last roll was out!

My grandma told me how to use those. NOT INTERESTED. In fact, that’s a significant motivator in never running out of TP. I live in the land of TP. Georgia Pacific and Kimberly Clark are within a 3 hour drive. Yet guess what was NOT on the shelf in my town for an unholy amount of time? Choose your own adventure, but this is one I am not doing.

My mom and I almost invested in a deep freezer but we had the same concerns as you just mentioned about things getting lost in there if you didn’t have a great organization. We are great organizers however, with those freezers being so deep, it is still possible for things to get lost. We instead invested in a small, standup freezer. That’s about 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide.it’s more like a small refrigerator in the fact that it’s not quite so deep and it’s easier to keep track of the inventory inside and we are very pleased with it.

I was savy during the pandemic by not only stocking tp but also installing bidets in both of our bathrooms. I also keep a steady supply (always) of rubbing alcohol, shelf stable foods including milk. We wanted for nothing during that time. Being prepared at all times means not panicking. It's very simple. Assess what you use, then buy one or two extra each shopping trip to build and keep up your stock. It's not rocket science.

I stock up on food, cleaning supplies, paper products, basically consumable for no more than a year’s worth. When I find a deal/sale on something that is when I top off that product. I am totally envious of those that Walk In Pantries and Basements. Of course, I have had a few people see my stockpile and have started their own or tell me they are coming to my house when disaster hits. I have been writing the date I start using a product on things like shampoo so I can estimate how long it takes to go through a bottle, giving me an idea of of how much we go through in a year.

In 2022's larder approach #5 to include non-food items, we had a tp discussion and collectively decided dispossble, flushabe paper was to our choice. We happened upon a good deal and bought enough such that when combined withnwhat we had, we would have enough "to last a year". Consequently we bought no tp in '23 and in mid-Feb '24 we were diwn to 1 pack on the larder shelf. Now we are venturing past tp shelves to look at price tags and try to decipher package labeling for wuantity comparisions. We generally aim for larder quantities to "last a year" to lock in current prices, take advantage of good prices, and relish grest prices; after checking package dates in the store. Then we shop the larder and generally don't replentish until were about out or out. Some we won't replentish between the price we originally paid and what inflation has done to the price. By setting the cap at 1 year's worth, if it takes 18 months to 2 years we wont be wasting things. I can generally tell 6 to 9 months in if were going to run out in about a year. If not, then i step up consumption.

I haven’t purchased laundry detergent in several years and probably won’t need to do so for another year or more. My DIL’s friend works for a manufacturer of home cleaning products and one of their varieties of laundry detergent was being discontinued. Employees were allowed a certain number of bags of detergent pods to take home. The friend took them but preferred another product. She offered them to my DIL. My DIL tried them and preferred to stick with her go-to. So they finally landed with me and I'm not picky about laundry detergent. I'm single and I do 2 loads of laundry per week. That's 104 pods per year. I was given 6 bags containing 60 pods each so you see from the math - years of pods. It will be strange having to buy detergent again. I don't even know what it sells for anymore.

In the chest freezer I use baskets - one for ground beef, one for pork & bacon, another for frozen vegs, etc. Kitchen pantry has one shelf for breakfast foods like cereals, cocoa, tea, another has PB, soup, spices on a 2 tiered shelf & they're alphabetized. Also, if you buy multiple cans of the same thing, I've started listing next to the purchase date the number I bought. For example 1:12, 2:12...so on. That way it makes it easier for me to know how long it takes for me to use up an item and I can plan my shopping more efficiently and shop the sales. For bulk purchases, I label my container of rice when I opened it and now know that it typically takes me a month to go through a half gallon jar. I know now that it takes me 2 years to use a case of paper towels. It's been a game changer for my household.

I just put the best buy date on everything and put oldest at the front

@@Jackie_W82 oh I see. I don't care as long as stuff isn't way past best buy date. With my system hardly anything ever "expires" so I'm not wasting any food. 🥰 cleaners and TP don't actually expire so it's fine to have extras.

@@AngieWy exactly. I'm getting low on space and trying to save up for a new roof so the goal is to only buy what household goods I will go through in a year to make budgeting and rotating easier on me

I used to keep a food pantry and freezer with a 12 month supply. Everything was rotate and we rarely had any food close to the expiration date, occasionally but I donated it fast. I got so lucky finding deals. Food Lion had a name brand pasta on sale for a $1. Right beside it was a blinkie machine with $1 coupons off 1 pasta. The sale was month long the blinkie was a month long. I bought a yrs worth for me and another 50 boxes to donate for $0, zero dollars. I never cleared the shelves. Our food pantry asked how I was getting so much pasta, I told her and she laughed and “said, it figures.” That was 2016. Those days are gone. 😢

When making the smoothie for your son or anyone, freeze the banana first. It makes such a nice cold and thick smoothie. And maybe for the son with braces, use a straw.

I had a client do inventory on her food stuff. I had to help her write down the items. I picked up the habit and transcribed it on my computer so when things are used i just delete it. It helped me definitely with minimizing down to once a month grocery shopping.

I totally get the pasta issue, it's never a go to with me and I have to use it up intentionally. Your tips on gauging what my family of 4 would eat in a year's time blew my mind! I just never thought about it in terms of how often we eat something that I am stockpiling in my pantry because it was a great sale, then those items become a burden because now I have to find ways to use them up! Thanks a million for all the tips and insights!

So much wisdom in this video. I’ve been shopping my pantry and freezer and have only bought fresh produce since Dec 27. I also don’t throw away fresh spinach anymore. You can freeze fresh spinach on a cookie sheet and then put it in a ziplock bag and store in the freezer for soups or smoothies.

Your pantry organization video and this video helped so much with making sense of your 2023 grocery hauls. I watched them thinking, "this is perfect! I am totally going to learn how to spend less on groceries!!!" And I did learn some good tips but by month 6 I was like, wait a minute, where are the paper products? And like detergent for clothes and dishes. And once I saw this video I was like, Ah, THERE THEY ARE! 😂😂😂 Seriously such a good tip to consider what your family actually consumes when you are thinking about stocking up.

I was getting chemo treatments and had no appetite and was told to try making ice cream shakes with Carnation Instant Breakfast packs, peanut butter, banana and added chocolate syrup. They wanted the calories packed on. And the cold of the ice cream helped. I also ate a lot of scrambled eggs, with cottage cheese, for the protein. I imagine that would be true for braces pain.
