Cut to the Point

There has been a wave of creators moving from Premiere Pro to Resolve. I understand the frustration many of us face. And while I will stick with the Adobe ecosystem for a while, the future of NLEs is uncertain. Especially because the weakest link of Adobe's premium product is customer support. A conversation I had with them about three years ago was not that much different from the one portrait in this satire. Take it with a grain of salt though! :)

Honestly PP has been a lot more stable for me recently, it works great and a little longer render times aren't an issue for me. What I dislike is a) the subscription model and b) lack of meaningful new features. The fact that in 2023 we still don't have an integrated video denoiser is awful.

All true. I don't really have a problem with render times too, that has never been an issue for me. But the thing I hate the most in Premiere is straight-up trash is masking. Whenever I need to mask something out in PP my head hurts, it's just awful, I hope some future update does something about that but knowing Adobe I don't have big hopes.

Very true :) As an aditor who used Avid, Premiere, Resolve and Sony Vegas before that I can confirm that all of them crashed more or less :) There is no perfect software for editing for me, all of them have their own drawbacks and advantages. Also chatting with support where you basically run in circles describing what you want to new people is also very relatable (not with Adobe in my case). Great video! You should do more "skit-like" content like this :)

Thanks! "All of them have their own drawbacks and advantages" is exactly what I'm thinking :) It's good that they are competing though! I think Resolve will force (already is) a series of good changes in other NLEs. I love Blackmagic for that. They are a disrupting force! :D

I'm moving from davinci to premiere pro because everything in the office uses adobe... and using different software than your colleagues is a problem. Not even counting when you have to respect the designs of the other editor. Also fusion is horrible. Inserting a title template in davinci is a nightmare... and that's how I can be... but it's just nice to cut and edit quickly in davinci...

Spot on, Adobe has their heads up their get new features out but doesn't fix serious problems they have with their software. This has been their modus operandi for ages!

I think they are working on stability. And sure it must be complicated especially if you're dealing with a product created so long ago. But they absolutely should put into it even more effort.

No software is bug-free. I've even had crashes on Edius and Avid. Rather than get mad at software, I've learned to edit defensively -- versioned saves, avoiding workflows that have led to crashes in the past, etc.

Personally I don't see a strong reason why creators are moving to davinci(being free maybe one strong one but if you are making money i don't think paying for it should be a reason, cause everyone wants to be appreciated for what they offer), it just looks to me like the new trend, just people moving with it, but as you guys always say it's not about the software but the person using it, cause if you meet a master of davinci and a master of premier their works will wow you, i hope this makes sense😅
@cttp
@cttp Жыл бұрын
It makes sense. 100% And I agree. I also don't mind paying - Blackmagic gives it for free because they're mostly hardware company so that's where they will make their money back. But I wish Adobe would have a Video Plan including Ps, Pr, Ae, Au, and Me at a reasonable price like $19.99 a month. I think much less people would leave their ecosystem then.

the subscription model vs one lifetime payment.
@RainSoxx
@RainSoxx Жыл бұрын
Free (or a single lifetime payment) is obviously a big one, doesn’t matter if you make money or not, less overheads is a good thing. Especially when it comes with less issues and a more responsive application to boot. Lots of people are moving because a company with an annual revenue of over $16bn somehow doesn’t have enough resources to make a better app than a company with an annual revenue of around $600m, 26x less. Not to mention that software isn’t even BMDs main focus, it’s their hardware. It’s pathetic of Adobe to be honest. And don’t get me started on the shocking state of After Effects.

I had a period of editing in Adobe for 8 hours a day and crashing it maybe once per 6 months. I've also been working on different versions of Resolve and also had periods of really really good stability. But I also had periods of unexpected crashes on both platforms. Just wanted to portray the frustration you feel on thoise days when everything goes wrong.

I never have those issues on win 10, 64gb ram, ryzrn 9 man, its not your software, it most likely your hardware if you have issues like this
@cttp
@cttp Жыл бұрын
Generally, I don't have these issues that often either. Happens sometimes but it's to be expected. However, it's not exactly just hardware. I've been consulted many times on issies people faces and some of them had amazing setups where it was really hard to explain what was going on. But I also agree to some extent - if you manage your computer well, and have a good workflow, you will experience well less crashes on average.

All crashes were fabricated here because it's really hard to know when it will crash even though I was throwing a lot of effects on the clips in both Premiere and Resolve to capture it. With no luck!. But it is my experience - that Resolve has its bad moments as well. Hard to argie which one is more stable - in my experience they're both similar but I know that for a lot of people Premiere fails more often. Depends on the system and workflow I guess :)

I've switched to DaVinci about 8 months ago. Although i prefer it to premiere, certain things about it are just retarded. Have you guys tried doing keyframes in resolve? Its the worst implementation of keyframing/automation I've EVER seen in a software. Its just horrible. Other things like the way they want you to edit puts you at a constant risk of deleting things in your timeline without you noticing. The edit tab is not as smooth as id like it to be. I still prefer it to Adobe products.

Hey bro I have same issue like you when it comes to keyframing. Fusion alone is a great thing to me, its smooth I love it. The problem is that I must do all keyframins in fusion. All the zoom in, out, text animations etc. Which is not efficient, and not great if I make sound desing to it later, if only Blackmagic implement something like Effect Control Panel into Edit tab and fix this weird magnet snapping (its working too agressively compared to all video editnig software that I used and thats not only mee) I would't even think about Adobe and would pay them more for the studio version than its costs now.
