Sorry for the random bit of B roll that appears at 3:15…a clue there to one of my frustrations later in the video!

My biggest peeve is: You have upto 10K worth of CDJ equipment set up in the club and some bozo turns up with a £200 controller, removes one of the CDJ’s to accommodate it or balances it on top of the mixer. Not saying they can’t rock the crowd but it just pisses me off no end visually and morally. EVERY so called DJ should know how to plug in, and be confident in playing on THE CLUB STANDARD EQUIPMENT. No excuses in my book. Thanks for giving me a an opportunity to vent😡😅

Haha! I can relate to this!! Thanks for watching

I think I know why the problem with the phone on the face happens: People sometimes try to tell you the name of the song, but we as DJs cannot hear / understand properly. This happened to me so many times. Someone comes to me and say "Hey, can you please play XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX from YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY" and I had absolultely NO IDEA what they asked for. The phone is annoying, specially because it sometimes makes my vision blur when I turn my eyes back to the equipment, but I understand why they use this method.

As someone who worked the commercial club circuit in the late 90s / early 2000s, nothing about which you're venting is new, it's being going on for decades. I remember turning up for a gig in a venue and one of their 1210s wasn't working (I'd flagged it the week before as being on the way out), so they'd replaced it with a domestic hi-fi turntable and expected me to use that instead... fortunately my housemate was able to grab one of my 1210s and bring it down to the venue before they opened.

So many Nightclubs have fazed out the Lighting Designer and that is why Lighting gets overlooked.

You raise a very good point here! Thanks for watching

Not in the mainstream clubs myself yet but when I go with a couple friends who are DJs we encounter some of these problems. Should have a private restroom for staff. That would be Ideal. But also in terms of equipment. If you can use for example an RX3 then you should have no problem what-so ever using 2000 nexus 2's. If you do, then you need to be getting more familiar with your gear. No question about it.

All very true. Toilet breaks also give me massive anxiety. I’ve come back before and found people in my dj box. Very frustrating.

I hate the "play my request in the next 10 minutes as we are leaving" Added aggravation if they are rude and have no manners

Oh yes!! That is all too common haha!!

Haircut is looking fresh!! You bring up some very good points. Maintaining and protecting the equipment has to be a priority. I enjoy using my own controller but I am only Djing in Bars and Pubs for now. Getting practice time in with the CDJ’s too though when I can. Customer requests 🙃😆 Definitely right about the interactions dying out. And that sounds like a mission trying to go to the toilet on your Friday shift 😆😆 ‘A few lemonades’ 😩😩😆😆😆 Brilliant 😆😆😆

Hiding the greys with my haircut mate hahaha. Yeah I do think for pubs and bars it’s a bit different…they aren’t ever going to splash out on a pro set up so I haven’t got an issue with that so much, it’s the clubs where their sole business is DJs and club nights I take aim at!! Oh yes there is a mission to get to the loo on my Friday!! Thanks for watching as always mate!!

6:35 In manny cases it's hard to properly-hear their request or know the proper spelling of their request, so seeing it on a phone can be very useful and same time. But like all things there is a way of doing it respectfully of course.
@djkarlthomas3 ай бұрын
I don’t really need to know how the request is spelt haha, I just prefer people speaking to me politely overall. Thank you for watching!

Going to the toilet is a nightmare where I work! I’m with u 100% on that one 😅. Also some clubs don’t have security near the booth which can be a problem when drunk people come in and start touching stuff 😂
@djkarlthomas3 ай бұрын
That is a major issue…always need security nearby! Thanks for watching!!

Don't even get me started on the requests and phones, they look at you funny when you talk. Staff are the worst haha.....here you go you do it 😂 I hate when they request a song, then they wait and watch until you search for it.....it's a request not a demand!

Issue is with most of what your saying is becuase you work or used to work in REKOM venues. And Rekom never let us light jocks spend money on repairs and even hardly to have us on site when it’s shut to clean lights make changes. It’s different if you go to a site run by epic bars and clubs which are trilogy’s and a few more as they keep production on point! And saying that Rekom just shut 18 nightclubs in Essex and surrounding areas back on the 29th jan this year which made a lot of people redundant. And most of those didn’t make money because Rekom never invested in them changed them up they just brought them all from Deltic and left them all to die
@djkarlthomas3 ай бұрын
I have based my point in this video on 18 years of experience working in nightclubs run by many many companies. Actually only had 2 Deltic/ Rekom residencies….. thank you for watching!

I love when people use their phone to request a song (in a club). For me it means I can mostly keep my focus on the current mix and it saves time on them repeating themselves because it's too loud to hear anyway
@djkarlthomas3 ай бұрын
Ah fair enough!! Definitely interesting seeing lots of opinions on this one! Clearly I am in the minority on the phone thing, but that’s what makes us all different! Thank you for watching and sharing!
