From NEAREST I just use the DIRECT TO function and set up an approach in PROC. I think I learned that in one of your videos.

On your question of now to get the nav frequency for an ILS approach to a nearby airport, When in the Nearest menu….scroll to the airport you want, select the Direct To soft button, enter and the flight plan should load direct to that airport….then select the Procedure soft key and you can choose the approach you want, say for an ILS and it will auto-select the nav radio frequency and you can load/activate that approach into the flight plan on the gps.

Hi Hudds ... Another excellent guide to mouse use for panning and nav and radio and nearest airport. Will keep on practicing.

Hudds ... Apologies if I mentioned this before as I know you're a busy man but the save flight or flight plan on Xbox never seems to work. Have a number of flights saved but if I try to open any they don't open. As for saving a flight plan I haven't a clue how that works. If it's possible as a future tutorial that would be great.

I don’t know if you know but you can select nearest airport by highlighting and press direct to button/activate and then press the procedure button and select the approach.

I hadn't actually looked into that; fantastic tip 👍

Yep, this is how I usually fly VFR. Signal to ATC I'm X miles out, then they give me a runway and I set the approach (visual) and activate it. Then just set altitude below what it shows in pink, and turn on VNAV. Once it hits the TOD point it starts to decrease altitude and you can manually control speed and flaps (I fly C172). After it hits the VNAV altitude turn off autopilot and land. Sometimes ATC will tell me to go around so I execute the missed approach procedure.

Cool video. Let's say you have a route planned in a mountain area but is it very cloudy. How will you know how high you need to be at different parts of the journey to ensure you don't crash into mountains and hills?
@Huddison
@Huddison 2 жыл бұрын
If I were planning such a route, I would look at elevation maps to see how high I need to be to avoid the highest peaks. The following e-map will give you such data: en-gb.topographic-map.com/maps/b9/England/

Hi, love the videos. Im trying to set up vnav altitudes from a direct to on the 1000nxi. After keying in the airport I cannot scroll to the altitude and offset, only to the crs and hold and activate, skipping the alt and offset. What am I missing? Thanks in advance
@Huddison
@Huddison 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, I do believe IIRC , that there is a way to alter your altitude. I'll have to refresh my own memory of how, in the sim. I'm going to be moving over the next few days, so hopefully one of your helpful viewers here will advise you in the meantime; or do try the Discord - lots of knowledgeable G1000 NXI users in there.

If I'm approaching an airfield I don't know, I like to fly over the centre of the runway then turn on to downwind and when the runway is around 45deg behind me turn on to base and then on to final
@Huddison
@Huddison 2 жыл бұрын
Yours sounds like the more authentic approach David & likely, it's similar to what real world pilots would use. I find (and admittedly enjoy) spotting the runway a few miles out and adjusting as necessary - very easy to do if you are at stage 1 flaps speed.

If I zoom in on my Series X I can get a Garmin 1000NXi that is physically 86" in size. LOL That said I am only sitting a few metres from my 86" 4K UHD TV in the living room. In fact I find these new Garmins crisper and brighter compared to the original G 1000's. I have been having a ball with them in Cessna's and Beechcrafts and it's a game changer! Yes the G1000 NXi upgrades are available for the Cessna 172/182/206, Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron. The G1000 NXi upgrade for these aircraft is available for a list price of $28,995 from Garmin Authorized Dealers (installation and hardware charges may apply), which includes the avionics system software and STC Letter of Authorization (LOA) from Textron Aviation for list price of $4,000. YES! US$29,000.00 for an upgrade!!!!!!!!!! Our price? I'm going to guess once final release is certified we will be looking at maybe US$50.00!!!!!!!!!!
