Having done the spider cruiser quest, and without spoiling much, the quest diverges in 2 so you can get the A or B based on your decision and I got the B

4:44 You passed on a Momus missile again. Which despite the appearance and name does not require Missiles. It's a heavy laser that pierces all shields, and remains insanely efficient throughout the whole run. Also, and this applies to almost every boarding-focused run, look at the onboard crew lab upgrades. These don't mean that much unless you either need something niche, like getting Engis or Crystals to not require O2 at all, or when you're boarding. Mantis in particular have an upgrade that boosts their melee damage by 50%, while reducing ranged damage by 60%. The ranged penalty may sound bad, but the upgrade is still absolutely amazing. 9/10 times your boarders will fight in melee. If they are fighting at range, you're already winning. That upgrade makes an enormous difference. Another species that really likes an upgrade for crew damage is spiders, should you get some in the infested sector. They also get a 50% upgrade, with the downside of making them unable to man systems at all. Which you don't care about if they cut up even Rock Crusaders in a matter of seconds. Seriously, the spider queen with that upgrade kills a boarding drone mk2 in 3 or 4 hits. It's actually ridiculous. TLDR: Get crew upgrades when boarding. Most species have at least one option increasing their damage output somehow.

Mantis/Hive A, definitely a big upgrade from vanilla with it's 4 crew teleporter from 2. It'll definitely be a highly common thread to see 4-man teleporters on Mantis ships, though there is like 1 or 2 that are 2-man...for whatever the reason... Unfortunately, Spear, Mantis B is definitely NOT like the coveted vanilla Mantis B; that ship moved on over to the elite status that is unlocked by getting all Hive and Suzarin Cruisers, and with good reason because it basically has 4 Suzarins at default. You can not find a better boarding crew aside from the Elite B type which has 3 Mantis Bishops, and they're even more powerful than the Suzarins... Gotta love that karma kicking you down for being greedy. XP I used to like reconstructive teleport back when I was starting out on Multiverse, but then I started to forgo the upgrade in exchange for getting the level 4 teleporter, because there are times that it's best to eliminate the 10 second cooldown in between to save your boarders in case something very unexpected happens than to heal your boarders up to full and then wait 10 seconds for the cooldown to have them board again. In addition the medbay isn't far away from the teleporter with only traveling between two rooms, but it is a little bit annoying that the medbay only supports 3 crew members...yeah... At least Suzarin A actually solves that problem, AND both medbay and teleporter are right next to each other and are double door. Granted at least the reconstructive teleport does invalidate the use of upgrading the medbay which is Spear's mondis operadi. With a ship that's more specialized for boarding I would highly suggest getting respirators to lower suffocation damage in case you have to board on any oxygen-less ships early game, and some upgrades from the onboard lab are quite good for the mantis.

Hey spearmintz, fun fact: you can board drones with a level one teleporter. if/when you get the lab, there is an upgrade I get 99% of the time, which lets engi be immune to no-O2 places, so you can board the drones, but with engi :D and even if you do not, you can still board with engi, as they take less suffocation damage, but they sabotage at the same speed as other crew, if I am not mistaken -Captain Corn

Glad your back I was wondering where FTL went!

At some point you should give level 4 teleporter and clone bay a try. Completely brings boarding strats to a new level. Both system become instantaneous so you really only need 4 power for both since you only need to transfer power from the teleporter to the cloning for a moment to get your entire boarding crew back which you can send over right away again. Plus you can move your crew around so fast by beaming back to your ship, then right to another room helping a lot with ships that have doors.

My thing about boarding is you can beat the game without boarding but you can't beat the game without weapons, so you end up spliting your resources into something you are not using or you stop boarding. I do love a boarding run but you eventually have to transition into a gunship, and in multiverse the flagship is so incredibly stacked with its crew there is not much that boarding helps. Having a good crew is nice but the teleporter is basicly useless for the flagship.

The yari beams are pretty nice with cloak because beams don't stop cloak. You can take level 5 cloak for 25 seconds of cloak and also have pseudo stealth weapons. This'll get you piercing flagship in 1-2 cloaks. Not the fastest but is quite safe.
