Zoltan are the only race I'd dump for a human. They're just a PITA with little benefit.

My hot take on o2s: I slept on them when I was a nub and now I always get at least level 2-3 by the Flagship, and my win rates went up considerably because the Flagship always, *_always_* spams Boarding Drones in phase 2, which causes a hull breach. If it goes in your cockpit, if you only have level 1 oxygen, you have to leave the room with a 75% healthy boarding drone in there, heal people up, and come back in afterward to kill the boarding drone while the oxygen in the room is already gone. You might need to send people in waves. Devastating. You can lose a run just off of that alone, especially with low crew count, and then what if the flagship sends a boarding drone back into your cockpit? Now you lose for sure even if you had a fantastic run. With level 2 you can leave the doors open to keep oxygen in the room and make it easier to fight off the drone, but with level 3 you can straight up leave the doors closed for safety and just send a second guy in to help the pilot kill the drone, fix the breach, and then not drop below 100% oxygen. Even level 2 Oxygen makes runs that you are about to lose still winnable. At level 2, if you have the doors open, you can actually fill a breached room that has been drained of oxygen with enough oxygen to safely repair it and barely lose o2 any in your ship. This can be game-deciding if they breached your medbay and everyone is at 15 health. At level 3, a single hull breach can't even drop your o2 below 100% and you can leave the doors closed. Level 2-3 also gives you blue options for safely navigating slug sectors that hack your oxygen without putting a timer on the fight. If they have high evasion and good shields, one bad roll can create an unwinnable fight you have to run from. In later sectors, that can cost you upwards of 60-70 scrap, so just off one of those fights, the Oxygen system pays for both its upgrades. With level 2-3 oxygen, you can straight up let them put holes in your ship and ignore them until after the fight. It also means your O2 can take a stray bullet or two and you won't be screwed if you don't notice in time. Yes, it doesn't win the game, it only helps you Not Lose, but you could say the same about Engines and Shields and Cloaking, all of which are S tier. Some things cause you to lose extremely quickly even in an otherwise perfect run. Good engines are useless if you have no pilot, and even with level 3 piloting you lose about half your evasion with the loss of the pilot's manning bonus, so having the capability to keep your pilot in the cockpit even with a boarding drone in there is nothing to scoff at. Sometimes, you need to go through an extended period of Please Don't Kill Me because they shot your weapon system to 0, and if Engines and Shields and Cloaking are S tier for the same reasons, why is Oxygen so low when it does the same thing for way less in situations you are guaranteed to face? You don't even need to keep them powered most of the time, and that's not a strike against it. It means Oxygen upgrades don't need to be paired with a mandatory Reactor upgrade.

Mind control is definitely a great multi purpose system. It can assist with boarding offense and defense, it can counter enemy MC, it can stop a system repair from happening and help deal more damage to it, and best of all with an extra crew parked in sensors or a cheap sensor upgrade you can typically mc their pilot for your crucial first offensive volley to guarantee no misses and maximum damage. Helping to put the enemy into recovery mode on that first volley can be crucial. I agree that it isn't as useful as hacking and is way below stealth, but it has a lot of uses for almost any build or play style.

I've saved some great runs over the years, and two of them used the Anti-Bio Beam. One was with the Mantis B, where I had 4 Mantis crew, THREE automated loaders, a Burst Ion Mk.2, and an Anti-Bio Beam. The other run was on the Crystalline ship, where I had Crystalline boarders, 2x Burst Ion Mk. 2's, an Anti-Bio Beam, and a Hull Beam. But I think the most fortuitous round I ever played was on the Stealth B, when I got the Glaive, the Burst Laser Mk 3... and a Weapon Pre-Ignigter. That one was... fun. :D

I just got a play through with the envoy, I was shocked, he came fully upgraded in every category. Not that I used him in every category. Honestly he is a waste, other than that he can charge a system for free. That is awesome.

SRA is very dependent on WHEN in the run you pick it up. First couple of sectors, absolutely a no-brainer. Mid-run... eh, maybe? Late-run? Nope. Too little time left to benefit from it.

Adv. Flak is in a tier of it's own. 3 damage per power bar for a projectile weapon is just unmatched. Dual Laser definitely belongs to S tier, along with Flak I, Flak II, and Burst Laser II. It has a better ratio of damage per power usage than Flak I and Burst Laser II. Also, it's low power usage makes it very flexible. Meaning it's better than both - just not as good as the Adv. Flak. Also the Halbeard Beam does not come close to all of the weapons mentioned above.

Calling stealth C better than slug B is mind blowing.

I once got weapon pre-igniters and two flak II and laser. Every fight ended before it started.

FYI to anyone watching this. He passed up an amazing combo with the full metal jacket he could have bought. That plus his elder blank would have made him almost invincible, would have triggered his elder blank when he got damaged and he could easily regain the ability moments later. Great combo.

Gotta disagree about the breach bomb, that thing is at least A tier. Its an insanely good weapon, bypassing shield AND drone defences, when missiles get shot down, makes it incredibly usefully. Not only that, but the breaches they make mean it takes enemies forever to repair the systems they hit. I had 1 breach bomb 1 keeping both the Flagships engines and shields down just on its own, alternating which one it was hitting. With Zoltan Shield Bypass it also means you can pretty much never miss the flagship even in its 3rd phase if you drop a breach on its engines first up.

i know this is a 3 year old video. but i just saw someone today break the world record speedrun with the stealth B. interesting it was ranked C in this list. it looked down right broken in the speedrun one shotting everything it came against. because the user got preigniter on like the second system lol

Repair arm is actually nice when you get it in sector 7/8 you rarely care about scrap when you're late game tbh, and some free heals between the flagship jumps are so clutch

Anti-personnel boarding drone supplements a boarding party well, IMO. You can either support it with your boarding party directly, or split the defenders between two rooms. Either way, for an all-in boarding strat, I think it works wonders. having said that, I think it's perfect in B-tier here. It has a niche but there are better drones to take up your slots.

I like the chain vulcan. Of course it is better for the longer fights like the flagship, because with 2 flaks and 2 bl2 most fights are over until the vulcan has spun up. But when given the time, with pre ignitors and as many autoloaders you can get your hands on... Vulcans are SICK!

Heavy laser 1 is actually good. It is super cheap on power and can knock out weapons very quickly paired with something else to knock out shields.

I prefer the Shriek for boarding. Two guys who each act as a hull breach to drain the oxygen and a mind controller from the start. You can even take out drones since you don't need oxygen.

I think is better to put down the tear of laser drones because you cannot pause and timing shots at 0 shields. I mean: if you have a laser on your ship and an attack-drone you can charge the laser and wait the drone to shot down the last shield, pause, fire the laser from the ship, unpause and deal damage to a "naked" enemy ship. If you have a ship with projectiles and a laser-drone, you do NOT know if the laser-drone will shoot exactly when the last shield is exausted by the projectiles (from your ship): it can beam before the projectiles tear down the last shield or after one shield is repowerd.

First attempt failed because I somehow didn't notice that they were runing away. Felt really bad getting an earfull from Ruwan. Second attempt didn't have a fully upgraded med-/clone bay, so miffed to still lose Ruwan. And the third attempt was a compleat success.

The L chainger for 1 power seems low key powerful not gonna lie.
