They listened to Bankman-Fried, not just because he was a white guy, but because he was a white guy from the right family. Both of his parents teach at Stanford Law School. He was, as they would say in England, the right sort of fellow. We have a class system, and he was from the right class.

But the granddaddy of white con artists, Donald Trump, comes from a family of con artists, cheats on paying taxes and he never went to Stanford or any other college so your point makes no sense. A con can't succeed without the fools who buy into it. People who are easily tricked into investing in something that has no history of being worthwhile are fools. Education or color of skin has nothing to do with one's ability to fool people. Bill Cosby fooled people for 40 years.

You're correct, it's very human. It's called lying, or manipulation if you prefer more syllables. Con artists con; it's what they do. It's also human to have no internalized values, not to see anything as right or wrong except in how it affects oneself. The word for that is narcissism, or sociopathy. Most humans, though, don't admire such people, when they understand who they really are.

Quite an interesting round table discussion. The consensus from people that I went to university who work in the tech industry is that the company will not be in existence by this time next year. The changes that Elon Musk has implemented are not additive to the user experience and are driving advertisers away each and every day. The current business model is based off of advertising, and the transition to a subscription model as presented in the pitch deck has not been implemented as yet. Twitter needs the advertisers more than the advertisers such as Apple, BMW, Google, and Sony need them. Regarding FTX a key point that is being overlooked is the need for cryptocurrency investors to use offline cold storage such as a Ledger Nano X as opposed to relying on the hot storage online linked and controlled wallet.The sequence of events for FTX were the commingling of funds and then the massive hack. If a person trading on the FTX exchange kept their money in offline cold storage, the hack would not have effected them at all.

I had no compunctions about leaving Twitter. After a few days of Elon, I had had quite enough! Free speech is great, but I am free to avoid supporting bigotry and incitement of violence. There was enough of that before he took over; now there's just a bit more than I want to associate myself with. Also, Mr. Coleman, please wear your Santa suit next time! Thanks for bringing us the news, folks!

The irony of twitter is journalists, who are the only people that really make that platform significant, are spending so much of their time covering how bad the platform is, but are still engaging with it--meaning that it continues to be a significant force in the lives of those who watch the news. If journalists just stopped using it and using it to do their job for them, it would cease to matter.

Good round table. Jon Stewart had one on Twitter this week too that was also good (in case viewers are looking for more). And one interesting point brought up is that the editors of journos on legit news orgs are crossing their fingers for the death of Twitter. Because it is skewing journalism in a weird way.

It breaks my heart. I've been a member of twitter since 2008 and have made many, many friends on there - some of whom I've met irl and will be friends for life. I've also laughed my socks off, got work and made business connections, and learned loads from unexpected sources in those 14 years. I'm very sad at what has happened to a platform I dearly loved. How different twitter would have been if employee owned; being owned by one person was never ever going to be a good move for democracy. It's now fast turning into a dictatorship - and not a benign one either... 😐

Happened over and over again in stocks and crypto but they only regulate stocks. Stop talking about crypto as the problem. Each crypto coin/token has a full blown project behind it; no two of the same. They are all developing their products and platforms and it as a whole will replace everything you know to be cyberspace. If you don't understand what it is, don't talk about it like you do.
