You aren't seeing new athleticism, you are seeing more players that are athletic. Aries mentioned top names of the game doing things. But now, players 15 - 20 are just as athletic as 80s-90s players top 7. Matt McClung just did it in the Lakers last game, and he played in the G League all year!

I love the game, played the game a decently high level and respect the game deeply but this how a lot of y’all sound. The era you grew up watching is KING and nothing else matters. You don’t care that Embiid is the first center in 40 years to average 30 or that Jokic broke Wilt fucking Chamberlain’s decades old PER rating and is quietly having one of the best individual seasons ever. There are guys now who would look like absolute superstars in the 80s/90s and they can’t even make All-Star teams today. I love basketball, all eras, I sleep breathe and shit hoops. He’s right about young people not really watching the older games and studying. Basketball is more of a natural love for the ball and what you can do with it. And that’s why it’s so many different talents. Everyone isn’t a magician with the ball. But people who love basketball understand it’s more of a gravitational pull towards the sport

I just watched the Sonics vs bulls game 6... and the guards back then couldn't even create there own shot and dribble... I'm looking at GP with his back turned on the 3pt line all game. I see why Jordan won those defense all first teams nobody went at him and him and scottie was killing people going down hill attacking ...physicality means nothing to someone coming down hill or is threat to shoot from anywhere and have unlimited crossovers and hesi moves... at some point we have to look at the tapes and factor in evolution... shit is blasphemy talking bulls beating the warriors

Of course he checked Jordan trying to make a name for himself and dumars getting cooked and Thomas was small and microwave wasn't quick enough. Also, lateral quickness wasn't the hottest commodity back then.
