In this video, I speak about the electricity problem that we have in Syria and Lebanon. Speaking about the steps and levels we lived until now. I speak about how we lived our years getting used to this situation (we'll never get used to this).
I also show you my book that I published earlier on Amazon, with a short look on what is there in it..
Phrases Explained:
و قَبل إيّامنا هَي بِ شوَيّ w 2abl eyyamna hai bi shwaii:
We use this phrase to say that something happened a few days/months ago.
2- ما منلَحِّق نعمُل شي w ma mnla77i2 ne3mol shi:
literally: we can't race time to do anything.
context: we have no time to do other things
3- عَمَلِيَّات باردِة
3amaliyyat baarde:
literally: cold operations
context: elective surgery operations
4- قَطَّر / بيقَطِّر qattar / byqattir:
it comes from the word قَطرَة qatra which is the drop. The verb means to distillate. We use it to say that we're using the thing in a very planned manner (more than usual).
5- حَدِّث وَلا حَرَج
7addith wala 7araj:
literally: speak with no shame
context: Don't speak about it (sarcastically)
6- أشكال الناس ashkaal el-naas:
we don't mean appearances of course. But we mean how people are walking, acting and sitting with no hope.
7- هموم فوق الراس hmoom fo2 el-raas:
we use this expression to say that our concerns, problems and worries exceeds anyone else's.
8- فتح قَلب fata7 qalb:
We use this phrase NOT literally for sure. We use it tp express what there is inside someone's heart / brain.
9- بتفرَج btefraj
literally: to get wider
context: to feel better soon

Thank you for sharing! I appreciate getting the insight in the situation in Lebanon and Syria going on right now. It's not talked about a lot in media in my country and it's really hard to imagine how people cope over there, sitting here in a country with electricity all the time. I honestly wouldn't mind if you made 20 more videos about it, it deserves being talked about and you do it beautifully, and at the same time teaching us arabic in the best way possible. Thank you for your great efforts, I hope there will be a better situation for you and all the people in Lebanon and Syria very soon!

These episodes are so useful because they are the real language, the way people actually speak. The triple subtitles are invaluable, I can't imagine how much work is involved making them, even more so with power only being on for such limited amounts of time. As you have already done all the work writing the subtitles I hope you will in the future offer for sale a printed version of these, including of course those where you are having a conversation with somebody. You only need to add a preface and a photo from one of your videos for the cover page and your book will be ready to print. Thank you so much for helping foreigners learn Levantine.

That was very interesting, thank you. Thank you for the great vocabulary, the pain you take to explain all expressions and for the accurate subtitles... Levantine Arabic is a very beautiful language, it sounds so great when you speak it! You sound both natural and not too quick, so it is both pleasant to listen to and helps with understanding. There's lots of useful vocabulary there and actually also useful points in terms of cultural studies, getting to know what's on the minds of people who go through all these problems in their everyday lives. Great channel! If you just speak what's on your mind (and feel free to make it 20-30 videos about the fuel/power situation), it will be a pleasure to listen and learn from you. Thank you!

I totally understand not wanting politics in your comments, and I will respect it. Otherwise you will have political fights in the comments, and no one wants that. That being said, isn't this topic inherently political? And reality and culture are also very intertwined with politics.
