That is the intake air temperature sensor (IAT) which governs the choke position on start and controls air/fuel ratio on closed loop.

Not an Mass air flow sensor. It's an air temperature sensor. The Toyota Camry 2.2 liter engine uses a MAP "manifold absolute pressure sensor" Instead of a Mass air flow sensor.

Jajaja yo tengo uno que compró mi papá, importado a México. Camry 93 xle 2.2L y andaba buscando para limpiarlo, pero este también le pasé un trapito y ya lo limpié, pero en estos días le limpiaré la IAC ya para eliminar posibles causas de como altas y bajas al acelerar en una calle inclinada. Ahorita ya cambié el filtro de aire. Reemplace la válvula pcv rota , y una manguera rota que va de un lado de la tapa de punterías hacia la admisión justo antes de la mariposa... No tiene check engine light ni nada. Pero el filtro de aire está atascado de tierra

Ahorita le puse silicón de alta temperatura al poner la manguera de la toma de agua que lleva 3 sensores (no la del termostato) a ver si aguanta. Está muy corroída y nadie la vende en mi ciudad.

Thanks for the info, have been looking all over for the air mass sensor in order to clean it as have a camry with 300,000 miles on it. Notice other camrys around same year have plenty of videos showing how to find and clean them. So, can you tell me if this MAP sensor should be cleaned and where it can be found? Thanks!

That's an air temperature sensor, not air flow sensor.

Hi Peter, David here outside Philadelphia. Here is what I did so far on my 2000 Toyota Camry XLE 2.2l . And I am still getting a hesitation on the take off every so often. Air filter and air box is spotless. Plugs are new. I noticed that no. 1 cylinder was getting oil down on the spark plug porcelain but not on the electrode. I cleaned all the plugs then sprayed electric cleaner up in the plug wires. Also changed the valve cover gasket and put sealer on the ends of the head where the camshaft runs. Cleaned out the inside of the valve cover spotless. Put valve cover back on and tighten up 30 mm nuts a little snugger than 17ft. Lbs. I originally found the 30 mm nuts on finger tight( Not good) replaced fuel filter, PCV valve and grommet and hose. New clamps. Sprayed fuel injector cleaner directly in the intake. Now nice and clean. Put dry gas and fuel injector cleaner in the tank. DID I MISS SOMETHING??? THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING WHILE IT HICCUPS. ANY IDEAS PLEASE. OR WAYS TO CHECK IF SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING BAD OR BAD. THANK YOU DAVID 👍👍

@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor that is impossible. The car runs great until it has a brief hesitation for a few seconds then resumes fine. It has never shut off completely. Going to look at Map or Maf sensor. Pull the spark plugs again and look to make sure there not getting oil on them again. ECU??? BAD SPARK PLUG WIRE? COIL? MY FRIEND WHO'S A MECHANIC SAID TO FLUSH OUT RADIATOR. ALSO MAYBE CATALYTIC CONVERTER MIGHT BE CLOGGING. PUT CATACLEAN IN THE GAS TANK. I HATE TO KEEP GUESSING. FRIEND IS SICK WITH THE FLU. GONNA KEEP READING FURTHER. THANK YOU MY FRIEND. DAVID 👍👍😊

How does it idle? If idel is rough and you've checked everything, see if the vacuum sensor is not connected, it's normally attached to the firewall behind throttle body.

Hi Peter, I have a 1991 Camry and the diagnostic code from the self diagnostic system shows code 32 (open or short circuit in V to Vc oe E2); TRouble area= Airflow meter or circuit. I found an unplugged pig tail cable like the one you have but there is no connection to the air filter box cover. I am frustrated by this.

Thanks for the video peter. I bought a 1993 camry and its been having hard starts and a rough idle. Every now and then it throws the code 22 (ECT sensor) even thought it was replaced by the previous owner. I cleaned the IAC and it did not make a difference. However, today i looked in the engine bay, the IAT sensor was not attached to the filter box. Could this be causing my problems?

Can this cause a surge in the car while accelerating after filling up car with gas? Causing it to cut off at stop light, only does it after fill up...mostly

Mery spalding if your car cuts of clean throttle body first and its still doing it try cleaning iacv if that dosnt fix u might need a new distributor or coil abd thats dosnt fix open up the ecucars computer and check for any leaking capacitors

Hey man I hope you got an answer to this lmao but for anyone asking, 2.2L Gen 8 Camrys and Gen 1 Solaras (at least) use a combo of this air temp sensor and a MAP attached to the back of the throttle body and can be unscrewed with a right angle Phillips head screwdriver.. HOWEVER, unlike MAFs, MAPs are much more bullet proof and rarely fail.

Hi Peter, the sensor you are holding has the same as my car. My problem is that, the plastic socket on the terminal is already broken because of the age of the car. Its easy for me to determine the polarity of the 2 wire using volt meter, but I have no idea how to determine which is positive or negative on the sensor itself. I don't want to damaged the sensor...Please need help...thanks
