Hi Andrew, as far as the Goldberg graphics goes, I built the Chipmunk back in the mid 80’s, and flew with glow w/20% nitro and never had a problem with the graphics bleeding. After two years still looked great. But that vinyl is a very good idea. Back in the day my paint of choice was a fuel proof rattle can called “Poly U”. Worked great with a remarkable finish that once cured was nearly indestructible, gone now by the way of the EPA. Now a days I’ve started using a good grade of rattle can polyurethane ( not the water base) which is much like the other I mentioned. I use it on all my planes now at a cost of about $6.00 - $8.00 depending where you get it. The two brands I use are “Varathane Ultimate Spar Urathane, Oil Based” or “Minwax fast-drying Polyurethane”. Both of these have worked very well for me. I am in no way trying to to sound like I know it all because it looks like you have way more experience then I. You do awesome work and appreciate your attention to detail. Thanks for the videos.

I just added the same graphics to my CG Chippy. This is so much better than trying to mask and spray.

Thanks for the painting tips. I'm going to paint a new Field Box with Rustolium and will use that 2X Clear Glamour as a Fuel Proofer. BTW, that Goldberg Chipmunk is a fantastic flier!! I had one in the air for 13 years (1989 through 2002) and never had a bad flight with it. And, it was so easy to fly and I used the same engine your chose. Did you have good luck with yours? I hope you did. I unfortunately chose Coverrite Perma Gloss fabric and it doesn't stick or bend around curves worth a carp. On my last landing the whole bottom side of my port wing came loose and thank God I was able to land the plane in the high grass because it doesn't fly good that way. Some day I'll re-cover it. It's a shame it's not sold anymore.

ive seen a lot of ppl miss the boat on the cowl air intakes. You need to drill around the intake and pop out the center. Take a look at the full size chipmunk's cowl. People wonder why they cant get a good engine run because they dont have enough cooling. The math is the area of the air outlet should be double the air intake.

Hi Andrew. What color/ stock number did you find was the match for Monokote True Red?

Use one piece to cover all not each one like the whole side or extension on exhaust take back under wing is my choice probly both

beautifull chippmunk, i am about to start the build of my Goldberg Chipmunk, can you explain how you covered your plane did you use monokote / oracover, or the old skool way with tissue and silk

I too have a super chipmunk a friend built me about 8 years a go he passed a way last year and i am finely getting a round finishing it i have the same motor a sato 91 could you take the cowl off and show me how you mounted it please and explain how come you mounted it upside down in steed of sideways thank you Jack

Andy what do you use for a Matte Clearcoat ?? . . . I did some tests with the Rustoleum 2X Satin and some colors DO NOT appear to be Glow Fuel Proof . . . Midnight Blue (Satin . . . a week drying) comes off on a rag with a spot of Glow Fuel on it . . . however, the 2X Ultra Matte in Perfect Gray appears to be absolutely fuel proof . . . doing a 1/4 scale cub in Navy colors . . .

I've used spray max for years. Put it in the fridge after its activated and it will last 2 weeks.Where did you get the nice cowl fasting screws and do they have a rubber on the backside of the washer.Thanks Terry

What is the part number for the Valspar "Insignia Blue" color. I found two dark blue 21900 and 21928 online. It looks like the 21298! I have been on a quest for years for this match. I found a "2X" that's a way "stand off" close! Thanks!

Andy, did you tape in and paint your white frame parts on your canopy ?

Did you paint that whole plane and sheet it all in a full I. Everything then paint that whole plane. If that is paint man that's a beautiful plane wish I had the patience to build a beautiful painted plane like that. I just finished a 35 percent scale extra 300 and I sheeted it all in and painted it using ppg paint and 2k clear which is a high gloos hard sealing mirror like finish gloss clear coat thats a two part clear and its glow fuel proof I foind out. And I clearcotwd the vynil graphics over as well. But trying to sheet in and paint a plane yours size and smaller is alot more work and sanding cause of weight

So why not clear coat the chipmunk rather then another layer of film?
