I really enjoyed that. The use of the red circles highlighting your point of interest was really useful! Well done.

Nice approach working with such a large focal length. You make a great point about the extra time needed to linger in a place to consider the shot which I find quite nice since I started learning photography as a medium to slow down, sit and think. I also realised how larger focal lengths crush background elements due to their narrower field of view which is something you can't fully replicate just by shooting wide and standing closer. I like that look, this is probably the nail on the coffin for me to grab something like an 85mm.

Yeah, telephoto lenses definitely have a unique rendering that is very pleasing to look at. I probably gravitate to 50 mm the most of any focal length since it's a nice balance between wide and long, but using something like 85 or 135 can be very fun and satisfying. And yeah, slowing down and being more methodical is something I need more of in my life. Can’t always have the energy and will to get close and spray with a 28 mm 😂😅

AND sometimes photos you think are crap are actually interesting to others. I rather liked that photo with the stripes on the wall and in the crosswalk.

Way to push yourself with a lens outside of your comfort zone! I also like the addition of the circles and arrows to emphasize what you're focusing on. I love that place where you kicked off the video. I've been there more than a few times and it's a wonderful place if you want to play around with long exposure shots. If you can time it right with the traffic and trains you can get some great images!

Thank you 🙏☺️ Yeah, it’s a great vantage point that would be even better at night. Ueno as a whole is such a great place to shoot 😁

It was fun following you and seeing what you were able to pick out and capture with this “giant lens.” The arrows and circles are very helpful for us to immediately see what you are aiming at at that moment. About the photo 3:52: Did he definitely notice you as he got closer? Or was the distance too far? I like that despite this crowd you can still take a look at individual people. This way you can speculate about which of them is very focused on their own daily work, who seems alone or even lonely, or who is hanging out in the crowd for fun and with friends. And you do it with respect, I think. Every person has their own path and their own biography, which is an exciting thing and always raises the question for me whether a moment of encounter with another person - even just a fleeting glance - whether this short event has a kind of "dialogic influence". By the way, it was a good idea to express a few of your own thoughts about your photos at the end. But I think you were a bit harsh on yourself with the scoring. ;-) Yes, and great that you caught the little boy 7:34 with that reaction on his face. I noticed this and immediately thought that this photo was a really great coincidence. One of my favorites is this very short filmed sequence at the end of your video about 15:55 - the young woman with the nice-looking hairstyle who walks so relaxed through the small street. A beautiful motif. Were you able to take a photo of her between these brief moments? From the local time here quickly to the completely different local time there :-) - kind regards - Monika

Hehe, I’m not sure if he noticed me or not in that first photo you mentioned. That’s one of the nice things about this lens: I can stand back and maintain a respectful distance while still capturing intimate moments if I want to. It’s still much too long in too many situations, but it’s a fun tool to have available. And I’m glad you appreciated the review segment. Maybe I was too harsh on myself, but I try to be honest with myself out of a desire to improve haha. Anyway, I hope you have a great rest of your week ☺️

Yeah, all the cops were surprising. I hadn't previously thought of Japan as a police state! The 90mm really is not a "street" camera. I use mine at public events to do candid portraiture, and it's great for that. "The greatest location is the human face," film director John Cassavetes said! If you want to use tele, I'd suggest going all the way --- the 50-140mm. It's heavy and looks like a cannon, but you can back our quite a bit to the 50mm mark and stay sharp -- that lens is razor sharp throughout. It also has great image stabilization, although the 5 may have that in body, I don't know. I shoot with a 2, no image stabilization. Lastly, the area you depict would have been a gold mine for the X100.

It's not a police state, that's for sure, but you can often see them out in force to help manage and control crowds during major events and festivals. Otherwise, they just hang out at the local police boxes where you can ask for directions or pick up lost items. And yeah, the 90 mm is an interesting lens. I also would have preferred to shoot with my GRIII in that situation, but using the 90 mm was part of the challenge 🙃 Have a great weekend :)
