Glad to see that I’m not the only one who takes Jpegs into Lightroom! I actually started doing it after I spent an hour editing a photo to get it perfect, really heavy editing, then I went to convert it to Jpeg... AND IT ALREADY WAS A JPEG LOL. I didn’t even notice that I wasn’t editing a RAW. Jpegs hold up better than they get credit for. No shame!

I must thank you for the great Fuji X-T20 videos as I recently bought one myself. I specifically want to thank you for allowing the artistic/emotional side of your personality to come out when you describe some of the images you take, especially when talking of your family. Most people hide their artistic side as it can be construed as a purely feminine trait but photography, without art, would be pretty boring.

Great vid, very helpful. Omar, it’s great that you have the guts to show not only the successes but also the fails. And it’s very instructive that you share your thought process behind them, because those are the same ideas and frustrations that many of us go through. Well, I do at least. I’m contemplating the purchase of the 56mm and we all know already that it’s a fantastic portrait lens, but I have been wondering whether I could put it to other use. Your vid convinces me that it’s certainly possible - but not easy. Which makes me wondering whether I would not be just as happy with the 50mm 2.0. My heart says 56, my brain says 50 :). Usually the heart wins...

Thanks for the videos about this lens. At least for me, it seems that the 56mm exceeds in more controlled situations, with a certain distance between camera, subject, and background. For travel and street, I 'd go for 35mm 1.4 ; 50mm 2.0, which are more practical.

Great photos from your vacation. I totally understand your "semi-frustration" with taking photos with the family "moving on", been there, done that but you got some great photos there! Just a little side note, the lizard shot would have been even harder to crop with a full frame at 85mm, at least if we're talking 24-36 Mpix as the APS-C 24Mpix of the Fuji has higher pixel density and it's a well lit scene. If you'd used a Canon 5Ds R with 50 Mpix it would be easier to crop, sorry about the rant. Anyway, I think it was a great photo, your talent is obvious.

My last travel kit included the Samyang 12mm, Fuji 23 1.4 and 56 1.2. Used the 23 80% of the time and could've probably managed 90%+ shots with that. The 56 is a beautiful lens but it requires a bit of creativity if thats the only lens you have with you. BTW, X-T20 2.0 firmware is out ;)

Hey Omar! Just wanted to first off say, I love your videos. They're not too technical or long or slow, etc. so I really appreciate them. I just got an XT-20 a few days ago, along with the 35mm 1.4f lens. I'm wondering what kind of zoom lens I should get; I'm between the 18-55mm kit lens, or the 16-50mm 2.8f lens. I'm leaning towards the 18-55 just because it's smaller and not as heavy on the xt-20? if you've tried it and have any opinions on it (or anyone reading this comment for that matter) let me know. :)

Get the kit lens, its a lot smaller, chaper and its the sharpest kit lens on the market. I have considered buying the 2.8, but in all honesty, would only use it for the ocasional paid gigs I do. The 18-55 is never out of my bag, along with some primes.

That's what I'm thinking, plus it looks like it would be waaay heavier than the kit lens on the xt-20 (I just got it on Wednesday and didn't realize how small and light it was haha.) Thank you!

Did you have a chance to try 60mm/2.4 ? From my experience, f2.4 is plenty wide for a short tele lens, so it can give you the nice blurry background, but it also has the bonus feature of going to 1:2 macro. As you also found in this video, the closer you get, the smaller aperture you can use and still blur the background. Plus it's smaller, lighter, less expensive (i.e. easier to replace should it get damaged. IMHO a better choice for travel.

Editing jpegs are not mentioned very often, but I do that frequently. It seems like the general presumption is that jpegs are not able to tweak, but honestly I found that the fuji fine jpegs have much room for tweaking.

Yes, Fuji JPEGs are great, especially if you go for -1 highlights and -1 for shadows right in camera. You can edit them later on back it’s great. Raw files are good for big dynamic range and white balance or even colors.

Hi Omar, thanks for the content i just subscribed and i am looking forward for more knowledge regarding the fuji universe. I was hoping you can shed some light on this frustation i have. I own a XT3 + kit lens and a 35mm F2 , and honestly after shooting with my older camera Canon 700D (50mm 2.8 for ex) it seems to me that the sharpness in the XT3 is inferior, there's something i liked more about the Canon, i would capture a lot more details somehow, a 3D effect in the subjects that doesn't happen now. As i went through reviews and tutorials this frustration remained as everybody speaks wonders about the XT3. Was hoping you could elucidate the problem. Many thanks

By 'pseudo zoom', I think you mean 'pseudo telephoto'? Also cropping is relative to megapixels, not sensor size. This 56 1.2 looks like a stunner, though.
@bregodk
@bregodk 6 жыл бұрын
The size of the sensor has no relation to your ability to crop. 20MP full frame is the same as 20MP APSC, in relation to cropping. A pixel is a pixel, regardless of which sensor it came from 😉 Otherwise great video as always, thanks for sharing 😏

Hey, I LOVE your channel. I have an XT-20 and the 23 1.4 love them. Quick question, I'm thinking about picking up a sony a7iii because of the low light and full frame and focusing... yada yada. So, I love the Fuji stuff but I have never owned a full frame camera. You use the canon 5d IV professionally. Is the full frame that big of a deal? If I don't get the sony I will get the XH-1 and buy the 56 1.2.. Do I go sony full frame and ditch the fuji? I want to start doing weddings and portraits.. If you were starting over and didn't have ANY camera gear what would you get?! Love all the videos. I've learned a lot. Thank you sir!

I used to travel with X-T2 and a selection of lenses in a shoulder bag. TOO MUCH. My neck hurt, my shoulder hurt, and I was passing over some photo opportunities because of the time it would take to change lenses. Then after talking with some great Fujifilm photographers, I tried something different: I took only the X100F without the WCL or TCL. And I've got to say, I think this is the hot ticket for travel. Combined with iPhone, Lightroom CC, and an SD-Lightning adapter, I can carry everything I need without a camera bag.

I would have chosen the XF 16-55mm F2.8 and Singh Ray Vari-ND filter. The lens has a minimum focus distance of less than 12 inches. 😉

Hi! you can try hit "Auto" and then add 30+ dehaze and 10-15 clarity and it will look pretty good on a RAW file in LR! ;)

Lovely pictures Omar. I think you would enjoy 16mm 1.4 a lot in this trip. You can get extremely close to your subject to get those macro flower shots and take gorgeous landscapes as well. You can even get really interesting close-up portraits with it.
