I want to say, "thank you!" for that bit of info on the cap/hood configuration for transport versus use. I have this lens and have only put the cap on the outside of the hood which often comes off by accident when the squeeze tabs are hit. Your explanation is perfect and I will incorporate it immediately. I love this lens and enjoyed your review.

Great video as always Roman and keeping it all very real. I honestly think of all those photo blogs that I have been subscribing to, you are way out ahead in terms of simplicity and understanding and very enjoyable. I think a lot of folks have lost their way in some respects during this pandemic and very apparently out of sorts because they can't get out. They have been slow, in my opinion to adapt and re-invent themselves and I fear some may struggle getting back to normality. I like the way you take photos and it seems much more of a nice walk around with a camera, well done again mate, keep well and safe.

Thank you for this review! I am a portrait/couples photographer and I got a great deal exchanging my old 18-55mm kit lens for this one yesterday. I wanted something that is relatively wide but not too much distortion and wider f stop, so I can pair it with my 56mm 1.2 to have both wide and close up portraits. So far absolutely loving it and it's lightness is so so pleasant to hold while shooting!

Just bought mine. I also have the 35, so was mildly frustrated when I couldn't attach the lens cap to the lens when the hood was on. Then I figured out that it attaches to the lens hood, so that was okay. Now from your video I can see you can lock the lens cap in by attaching it to the lens before attaching the hood. Very useful to know when chucking it in a bag, as the attachment between lens cap and lens hood alone is okay for general use, but not all that secure for transport. Thanks!

Great video! Reminds me a lot of my Leica tl 23mm f2…a bit soft at f2 but beyond that, extremely sharp across the board and fantastic coloring. Only thing is the AF isn’t as nice as this (I blame the camera body more than my lens) and there’s no weather sealing. I’m thinking about an xpro 3 and going back and forth between the 23mm f2 or 1.4. The f2 seems plenty enough for me since I don’t do many portraits, etc

@LickXander that’s great to hear! Cements my decision even further. Probably try and find it to buy over my upcoming holidays. I actually sold my beloved 24-70 for my full frame Canon to fund the purchase of the Fuji XPro3 and some glass for it, and I don’t regret it at all! @@Ryan-ts4iq haha, too heavy a setup? Honestly, the only thing that bothers me is that Sony has cameras with unlimited recording limits. I bought an intervalometer to see if it’ll help me with my podcast setup, it looks promising. But then the other thing that bothers me is that one zoom lens by Fuji, the 16-55. It has a weird exposure flicker when zooming in and out and I zoom in and out while recording OFTEN haha, maybe they’ll address it soon but for photos? A beauty.

Roman Fox whoa there is an update coming ? I’d buy in an instant. Will admit I’ve shot with all the “non weatherproof” prime lenses in the rain no problem - I wouldn’t dump water on them but have walked around just fine in fairly heavy rain to an extent, all still work great 🤷🏻‍♂️. They are heavier though , especially the 56 and 23 I’m not a fan of that which is why the f2 lenses are appealing, and to me maybe the biggest advantage over the faster lenses. Main reason I’ve yet to pick up the 55-200 or 1655, those lenses are heavy beasts.

Presently it’s the only lens I own. I am currently renting a XF16-80 and the XF16-55. I have about 200 control landscape that I am comparing. Compared to primes they are obviously bigger and heavier, which is not what I want but for travel a zoom might be the answer for lens #2. I was really sold ( on paper) with the XF16-80 but must admit the color rendition and detail of the XF16-55 is pretty impressive. For the time being the XF 23 f2 is a fine lens and very comfortable in landscape or street use.

Great to hear your review. Just bought this lens with an XT3 so reassuring to hear. On the X-T3 is it normal for a very slight 'clunking' sound when you press the shutter to lock focus or tip the camera back and forth. Just wondering whether this is normal or something wrong? Your other reviews suggest the X-T3 is very robust.
@rogergray7482

@@snapsbyfox Thanks for your reply Roman. Really appreciate it. The noise is in body. I have the 28mm f2 and there is no noise from this when I take it off. I have looked again and tried to get a sense of where the sound is coming from. It seems definately to be as if part of the focus mechanism, so for example when the camera finds focus it does what I describe as 'clunks'. It's noisier in manual focus as it seems to go back and forth as and when you press the shutter halfway down. The sound when power is off, i.e. when the camera is tipped back and forward is similar so not sure whether there is supposed to be some give in it? It's the first time I've bought such an expensive camera or a Fujifilm so maybe paranoid. Didn't want something to be loose that would potentially get worse over time. I know from your X-T3 review that the camera would expect to stand up to alot of use. Hope that makes sense. I appreciate very difficult to get across through a description. I bought it online so didn't have benefit of pre-trying in a shop. Just after some reassurance so I can get on and feel confident using it.

Good review. I sold my copy for two reasons: to me, the 23mm is a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none lens. Not wide enough for wide, not close enough for, well, close. Also, of the 3 new “Fujicrons” 23, 35 and 50mm, the 23 is clearly the lesser of the three - although by no means bad.

Hello from the wet westcoast of Canada! We are in lockdown too, but not as strict as your current one (but we've been there too). I have been progressing my way through your various videos, in no particular order and enjoying your insights. I must admit that your walk abouts of London are my most favourite, as it has been years since I last visited and there isn't a hope of getting there any time soon. It was slated as a trip for 2020 -- Ha! Thank you for the review of the 23mm after you had put it through its paces. I am curious if you have ever considered the 27mm. There is a new iteration coming out in late March and it is tempting as it seems to be improved and is weather sealed. I would be curious as to your thoughts about the 23mm vs the 27mm, especially in the context of Street Photography. I am looking to purchase one or the other, for street and for travel. I use an XT2 (18-55mm, 90mm macro and the 50-140mm) for landscape work, while I have recently acquired an XT20 for street work. In a way I am new to street photography in my own back yard, but engage in it all the time when I am travelling. The temptation of the pancake profile of the 27mm is most alluring. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you for your efforts!!

I switched from canon and one of my favourite lenses was the 22mm f2 stm, tiny pancake with gorgeous optics. I wished this was a bit smaller but I bet it's going to be better optically.

I switched from Canon too and wish the exact same thing! That 22mm is an incredible lens. I feel like it was the perfect lens actually. I keep hearing mixed reviews about the 23mm f2. Did you get it? How did it compare to your Canon?
@parranoic

@@_noahrh Honestly I think it is better, sharper, internal focus + external aperture is really nice. Only downside is the size, would have really liked a pancake :(

Great video ! I'm buying used xt4 and a 56mm 1.2 it's a really good deal actually ( 1100$ for the body 625$ for the lens ) I want another lens for video work same as the one you're doing rn, in front of the camera talking. Would you recommend this over the xf 35 f2 for these kind of videos ?

Lately I’ve been considering a Fuji xt4 with either the 23mm 1.4 or 2. Or the x100v just to expand my horizons in the photography world after 16 years. So after trying the xt4 with both f2 and 1.4 they don’t even come close to performance, clarity and sharpness as the Olympus pro 17mm 1.2 which is the same focal length. Even the x100v looks much better with a sharper lens. It’s a shame with such a advanced body you would think a camera company famous for street photography would make that particular lens that is the most popular of any other better. It shows just how amazing the 17mm Olympus lens is. Anyways if I pickup a Fuji it would probably be that 100v unless they update their lenses.

The lens is a good performer but vignetting is high at f/2 and less so at f/2.8. The major issue that I have this lens, is the long close focussing distance. Hope that Fuji gives as a new XF23/1.4 soon with the XF 16/1.4 WR "macro" characteristics.

Hi, thanks for the video review. I have a doubt although: don't you feel this lens give you very nice (satured. crisp etc.) colours, but at the same time a sort of "flatness" in the images? I mean, I've seen some photos (not yours) taken with it, and they seem not so "tridimensional", a sort of "flat": what do you think about it? That's the main reason I'm in doubt if buying this lens, or instead the xf 18mm f 2.0. Thanks!

I have xf35mm f2 and I really like the lens. I'm interested in 23mm f2 as well, but I've heard a lot of negative feedback about it being quite bad with close focused subjects. I shoot everything and sometimes I like to get quite close to the subject, so it does make difference. What is your thoughts about it? Have you had any issues with it?

Hi Roman. Love your channel. I have the Fujicrons, 23mm-35mm& 50mm. I love their compact size & image quality. I believe these lenses offer a very good value for their respective price points within the Fuji ecosystem. Portable & fun to use!😊👍

Went out shooting for the first time with it today. I am blown away by the detail, colors, and overall look of photos. I didn't get any great photos, but the quality of the photos is amazing. I'm thoroughly impressed. Better than any I recall with my Nikon D750 and primes. I need more time shooting with it, but today I had great results with it. Flare ruined one shot. My fault...no hood and didn't try to keep sun out of the shot.
