I cover the negatives, the positives, the myths, and the features I love most about this 100Mp camera.
The top screen is very handy and provides all the information I need, including a fantastic histogram, that I use all the time to monitor my exposure.
You can set long shutter speed times put up to 60 minutes for extended long exposure in the camera, no need for bulb mode.
The quality of the lenses is amazing. The lenses can be a little pricey compared to full-frame lenses and have some weight to them.
Fujifilm has designed a camera that fits so well with how I work and the style of photos I take.
They’ve included the things that are important, compromising on the things that aren’t so important, to reach a price point that’s very impressive for a Medium Format camera.
Honestly, I couldn’t be happier.

Great video! I’ve had the GFX100 since launch. It’s ❤️ for sure! My lenses are the 23mm (astro/interiors), 63mm (‘street’), 110mm (my FAVE!), and the 250mm. My personal preference are primes. I noticed you have the bottom plate for your GFX100S. I think that’s the correct decision.

Hi Andrew, I agree with you 100%. I got my GFX100S with the 32-64 and the 100-200 in April and I instantly feel in love with it. I was concerned about the extra weight on longer trips in the Alps and sometimes on a steep trail I curse, but at the end it is worth the effort. As you, I'm waiting for the 20-35. I hope this will not break my bank account too much ;-)

Thank you Andrew for sharing your thoughts in which I think is a great or one of the best landscape cameras ever! I wish I could own one! But I’ll keep on saving and hopefully one day I can afford one. But at the moment I’ll stick to my XT2 of which I love. 👍🏽

Nice video! I agree with your points...as I have the Fujifilm GFX50S II...which is comparable in many ways. I currently utilize the GF35-70mm and the GF100-200mm. I also have a Pentax 67 to GFX adapter that I need to experiment with. Thanks for the video!

Hi Andrew, I've had my GFX100S for about 5 months now, and I agree with your comments. I have both the 23mm and the 32-64, but the 20-35 interests me. I think was led me to the Fuji is the high megapixel count (I got tired of waiting on Nikon - I also shoot a Nikon Z7) and the format; I've shot 5x4 for many years and I love the aspect ratio, which the GFX is much closer to (than the Z7).
@borromine

I agree with your comments! I will get the 20-35 as soon as it comes out. Nonetheless I have the 23mm and think it is magical. I use the canon 100-400 mk II as it is so versatile. Focuses to 36 minutes. But with 1.4 is suitable for wildlife. I also use the Laowa 15mm shift the canon 24mm Tilt shift and the Pentax 45-85 645 with tilt shift adapter. I am an architect so this kit means I can shoot weather vanes atop spires and do bobs fide orthogonal architects l work. Only gfx allows this range!!!

I ended up with a GFX camera as well the 50s ii the reason I went for the 50 was that I just felt that was enough megapixels for landscape photography and not blowing out the files and I really love the camera and lenses. They are amazing thanks for your video. I'm a believer in the hyper focal method and you can still do that with GFX. I've been shooting with hyperfocal at F18 getting really sharp images there's a tiny little bit of fall off right on the horizon but honestly no one looks at that in my opinion. If you want to pixel peep on a mountain bright in the background that's not a feature of the photo that's fine but honestly the firs, 7/8 of the photo is Pin sharp. I will be investing in the GFX100S ii. I don't know if you ended up with the 20 to 35 but it is an amazing lens

Your thoughts on the GFX100S are much the same as mine as my use case is much the same as yours! Thought about the 20-35 (which I thought was to be announced today) but decided I'll just continue to use the 23mm, which is a fine lens. My history with the Sony 16-35GM shows that I'm always around 18mm in any case. About to pick up the 100-200, which is down to around AUD2,300 with Fuji's new cash-back offer (started today). Grabbed the 35-70 for AUD1,279 a few months back. What a bargain ... very sharp lens, weather resistant and super light.

Fabulous video, Andrew! If I hadn't invested so heavily in Canon bodies (R5 and R6) and glass before the GFX100S was released, I reckon I would have purchased this instead. It seems perfect for me. Don't s'pose you know someone who wants a lightly-used R5 kit, do you...? 😜

Thanks for another fantastic video Andrew! You made what could have easily been a very dry camera review really engaging, and it was well balanced and covered all my key questions as a prospective buyer. Appreciate your honest insights 🙂 I love my XT4 and have been curious about the GFX100S for a while. My main concern is lugging the extra weight (and space) of the camera body and lenses on long hikes to get to location (on top of all the other gear you'd normally carry, especially when filming). Have you found this to be an issue?
@dalkapur
@dalkapur Жыл бұрын
It is an issue for me. I find lugging the GFX + 2 or 3 lenses and tripod, the limit of my tolerance (reasonably fit, older man here) for hikes of 2 or 3 miles. Anything further or challenging terrain and I take my XT3 and kit. If you an afford it, I would keep your XT4 ;-).

I added your blog to my feed, and if you someday come to Norway you're welcome to stay with us. I only photograph around Lake Mjøsa and Oppland County though, as the rest of the country is too damaged by wind power plants. For some reason some large Australian investment fonds are eager to invest in wind power plants in Norway, utterly destroying our nature.

Thank you for the information. I currently use Nikon D700 and D800E and I use old Zeiss and Nikon primes. I upgrading slowly to a new AFS 24-70mmF2.8 E VR and AFS70-200mmF2.8 E VR. I am thinking on upgrade to a 2nd hand AFS 400mmF2.8 G VR or AFS 500mmF5.6 R VR in the coming years. I’m mostly into woodland and some animal photo and seldom birds. In the future I thinking of upgrade to a 2nd hand D850 or a new Z8 but I'm on a budget. I have old MF analogue cameras and I have some ideas to get Fuji GFX 50III when they upgrade the sensor so I can use my old MF HB and Mamiya 7 lenses.

You can adapt the tamron 15-30 mm. The image circle of this lens from ~20 mm to 30 mm is big enough to cover the gfx sensor. Not the sharpest lens, but good enough. The adapter will need to control the aperture of the lens though. Very envy that you can afford this system, although with no ts or wide field lenses is very limited.

Hi Andrew. Thank you for all your helpfull and superb videos. I am also shooting with the gfx100s and i love it. Today i did some street photography. I find out that the battery capacity is not so good because the lcd is always on. Can you tell me if it is possible to switch off the lcd. I love to shoot with the evf and the lcd costs a lot of battery capacity. It was not possible for me to shoot more than 100 photos. Coming from the d810, this is really nothing. Looking forward fir your answer. Regards from Switzerland, Semih

5 days GFX 100s owner here. Had bad experience, it had a faulty mechanical shutter. I didn't test the mechanical shutter after 5 days in and when I did, it failed (Turn off and turn on the camera again error). Rebooted and capture a new one, fail again. Oh well, shit happens. Beside that, using the electronic shutter, I have taken images that blown me away in that 5 days. Thankfully, I will get a replacement tomorrow from the retailer (with Fuji endorsement). DP review reported a few people having these issue. Yes, great camera but this first impression does leave that feeling how long my mechanical shutter will last before failing :(.

I recently bought one, the only real negative is the grip, the D850 grip is way better for hand holding. The Fuji grip where the pad of your fingers grip against lays back slightly and feels like your fingers are close to slipping off. The Nikon grip is perpendicular to the body making a secure grip.

tbh - more than half of the people that criticized my choice of GFX, are coming from an angle of gear envy… they’re stuck on full frame or less. they are however wooed by the post editing, where ahowing them the recoverable shadows on the GFX really shines

Cheers Jimmy, thanks for your comment. I didn't have any issues as far as the battery lasting. The battery in my blogging camera runs out quicker so I have to replace that first on a longer shoot. The GFX100S battery lasts for most shooting sessions, but I have two back up batteries for longer shoots or when I can't recharge between shoots...which doesn't happen often with the power management system on board.

Every piece of photographic equipment I’ve owned over a decade has been a sort of necessity. A means to an end. But my recent purchase of the GFX 100s feels absolutely different. The aspect ratios, the film simulations, the way you manipulate exposure. It all feels like a call to experiment, to explore. Three days in and I adore it.

Subscribed. I agree 95%. I do find depth of field a bit frustrating as I find focus stacking often results in flaws in the final image. I also do find it curious that Fuji, who clearly saw landscape photographers as a core demographic for the camera, could not produce a lens trinity which actually covers every focal length. Finally, one thing you don't elaborate on and what I consider a huge benefit, is that with 102mp, you can crop in 100% and still get a very usable 28mp file. It turns the extreme end of my 100-200mm into a 400mm lens (316mm FFE). It's like having a free lens in your backpack.

While the GFX100S is a very nice and very capable camera, it wouldn't be my first choice for landscape photography. It's very expensive, large and heavy. I would prefer a Z7II which has plenty of resolution, smaller size, lighter and less chunky lenses. Having said that, I find myself scouting a lot with a Z50 lately. Love the small size and small weight of that camera. And it has amazing IQ.
