Fujifilm Provia 100F is awesome. So is hiking a mountain for sunrise photography. This vlog was an epic adventure, especially when the mountain is actually a volcano. In today’s video we will be creating some beautiful square format colour winter images of Mount Ngauruhoe with my Mamiya 6 medium format film camera and Fuji Provia 100F film. I hope you enjoy the video.
For my video camera, I use the new Panasonic Lumix S5 with the kit S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 Lens. This video was edited in Final Cut Pro (FCPX) and the colour LUT's are by Leeming LUT's.

I like the results a lot. They're not something created in photoshop, they're proper photos taken as a result of the efforts put in by you to be in the right place at the right time. Nice.

beautiful work! your channel is so underrated! people taking the same photos of old broken down cars and abandoned houses get hundreds of thousands of subscribers, you deserve such amounts as well! I much prefer proper landscape photography, after all, that's what I do myself, and I think one can always learn from those videos and just seeing the entire journey behind the photos is just so... awesome, for a lack of better words. I love to watch this "classic" style of landscape photography with a medium or large format camera and slide film. the results are stunning too! keep doing what you're doing

Lovely! Curious about your color adjustments from film to final print. I've recently started doing blue hour landscape shots and my images are also heavily purple/magenta. I'm also using Fuji Provia. Would love to get more info on your editing for these, such a big change! Thanks for the inspiration.
@StephenMilner
@StephenMilner 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 I use the saturation sliders in the HSL section of Lightroom. Try removing all the colour from you images using the saturation sliders. This resets you eyes to am what is black and white. Take a 10 minute break from the images and then start reintroducing colour slowly using the saturation sliders and fine tune them to suit your taste.

@@StephenMilner I don’t think that magenta cast on the film is normal, as a slide you should have almost the result you have after Lightroom... A color cast like this can be from an expired film, E6 chemistries at bad temperature or exhausted, sometimes overexposed slide, or reciprocity if long exposure. Normally a slide is made to be projected on a wall, so Colors need to be accurate right in camera...

I always enjoy watching your videos and like many of you film photography. I’m in North-East of USA and do a lot of winter film photography (well when the winter is not too harsh). You had very exiting trip and you’ve got beautiful images, at least how they look on your light table. But I don’t really like your final edition. They appear to be over manipulated or something wrong with your scanner. They look flat and too warmish for winter photography. You so badly manipulated them that on some photos there’s no separation between the mountain ridge and the sky. All those beautiful Fujichrome colors have gone on your final edition. Blue hour is blue hour. It must be blue! Why to use very expensive Fujichrome E6 film and then remove all of its beautiful colors in digital processing. What the sense of doing that?
@StephenMilner
@StephenMilner 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. Blue hour is blue but snow is white. I edit my images to suit my taste and how I remember the scene.
@Roman-oi7rz
@Roman-oi7rz 2 жыл бұрын
@@StephenMilner You’re fundamentally wrong :). The snow, same as ice and water, reflects all spectrum of ambient light. During the midday it reflects entire visual spectrum from the sun, combination of which our brain represents as white. During the twilight the sun no longer directly illuminates the Earth, and the snow now reflects the light from the sky which is usually combination of magenta, pink and blue as the result of refraction and scattering of the Sun’s rays in the upper atmosphere (I hope you know it). And this is absolutely normal. The twilight is one of the most beautiful natural phenomenon with incredible spectrum of colors and I see our task (landscape photographers) to deliver this beauty to you viewers. I completely admire your statement “I edit my images to suit my taste” but I would recommend you to read the article at the Manfrotto School of Excellence ” The blue hour: winter in the mountains” www.manfrottoschoolofxcellence.com/2018/10/the-blue-hour-winter-in-the-mountains/ Looking forward to seeing more of your interesting videos.
