But what about the film sims and custom recipes? Nikon doesn't have any film sims and Patrick the fuji ceo (also runs that garbage rumor site full of x100vi clickbait) says that's all that matters in a camera. Patrick is shitting himself because people are starting to ask him about whether Fuji cameras do autofocus or not. First time ever anyone has asked. And he hasn't got a f clue.

Hi Thierry, I finally sent my X-H2S to MPB for probable sale. I have decided to stick with Fujifilm for street photography/casual shooting and going back to Nikon for professional work. Even though I only shoot events part-time, I believe the autofocus for fast-paced work is critical and Nikon has never really failed me in the past. Thank you for sharing.

I've tested the latest firmware (7.0) on my H2s and the video autofocus has become even worse with the update. I have also noticed a significant deterioration in the quality of bird or animal detection especially with the 150-600 mm lens : the video autofocus can't keep up with the slightest shift in movement and goes haywire.

Focus seems like acting in a stuttering way too, like using manual focus with these lenses. I hope they will fix that with the next x processor AF signal processing engine... it's a behaviour that has been there for a long time now and that's why it's better to stick with manual focus lenses for any video work using Fuji. Also, what makes it worse and looks like stuttering is like the AF is trying to switch "instantly" rather than slowly but surely, making the bokeh looking instantly bigger or smaller which is bad because it catches our eyes, I have a nikon Z8 and they damp AF speed to avoid that, I'm sure the nikon behave the same in terms of precision, it's just softening that noisy AF curve. Is it just me, or was it not better just after release? It seems like it. My only question is when are they going to fix these issues? (I suppose "where's my refund for the manufacturer breaking my camera?" would be another one). I have a hard time believing that we're all just now seeing the issue where we didn't before. I purchased the xh2s because I wanted to be able to use AF for some jobs and have stabilization... it turns out I bought a GH5 with an apsc sensor without realizing it. I had intended on retiring the GH5 for the XH2s. It doesn't need to be perfect, but it needs to be a hell of a lot better than this last update, I really don't think I'm being unreasonable.

I love my X-T5, but always pick up my A7c2. Not because I want to, but because for video at least the X-T5 is so frustrating. Sony, Canon, Nikon & Panasonic have got this right, so why not Fuji?

Well Sony puts dedicated chips and memory into some of their cameras just for AI AF functions, so there is that. Nikon uses dual processors in some bodies, doubling processing power. Canon is on a second generation PDAF since 2020, and likely has been very busy upgrading its AI tracking software. Panasonic claimed that PDAF basically did not perform well enough, so they passed on it for slower, but more accurate contrast detection until recently. Phase detection IS less accurate than contrast (but it can handle low contrast scenarios), so "hybrid" systems have generally been better. My guess is that Fuji needs more processing power/memory, and just better software. But doing that while still costing 40-50% less than direct competition is a tall order, probably. The real question for me is whether or not you can get the shot you want and, if you can't, how much you feel like spending.

I had same prob it's pretty bad actually it was very good with my fringer and the sigma 18-35 And now is terrible I was shooting static shots of some products for a clent The focus box was green but after I check the photos the focus was slightly off as if the focus was slightly in front of the product little better with the 33mm 1.4 but I I had go check the focus all time to make sure

Can't believe the flagship camera perform so bad like this. Very frustrate even using this camera for the online conference. I slowly consider buying a new camera only for video, but will still keeping the XH2S (also X-T3 and X-E4). Only some reason such as the Stack Sensor and Film Simulations still hold me to sell this camera. For the AF issue, it force me to move to fully manual vintage glass. I'm fine with that. At least it open the opportunity for me to discover another looks from the vintage glass. So I'll stick with Fuji for Photo. It's sad. I've already invest a lot for Fuji native glass, and don't want to see them laying around. However I would love to downgrade its Firmware, but I still need the tracking focus in video, the record indicator frame and REALA ACE. Let's see how Fuji will fix the issue in the next future Firmware, but it's still skeptical...idk

Fuji Screwed up the autofocus with the last 2 to 3 updates , it was very Good ; not excellent ,however as of late it’s been pulsing more which was not the case 1 update ago on the xs20 , I’ll be posting my findings in the next day or two aswell and as far as I’m noticing the Xt4 is on par or if not Better than my xs20 in video tracking, I should have never updated the xs20 with the last update I was quite happy prior to the reala update.

Do you not see the pulsing in the talking head part? Not sure if it's the bright PC monitor throwing it off or what, but it's pulsing the whole time. Also it almost lost you when you moved back and forth before you showed the actual test. It seems better than before but still not on par with everyone else.

It's just a weird behaviour. It seems like even when your eyes are sharp in one position, the camera adjusts. You can see heavy breathing in the background.

Fujifilm AF is absolute “shit” at the moment. My X-H2 which I bought in January this year is being returned to them next week. Wish I could afford to switch to Sony but the cost of switching the lenses as well would cost a small fortune. Wish I’d never sold my X-H1 😢

It was present on the X-T5 since its release and this camera also got worse with FW updates. It does not impact it.

Fuji AF has always been broken. What they have been doing with all new cameras and FWs, from let's say XT3 up until now, are just a cosmetics changes. If you just look at your graph on the screen and how badly it pulsing, you will understand what I am referring to.

The pulsing is annoying. I spam the AF-L button whenever I shoot and it does typically do the trick.

I will never argue against the trend that: 1. Newer firmware should always improve the user experience, 2. Firmware should only be released when point 1. Has been rigorously tested to provide this… Is Fuji incapable of programming their software to achieve this? Does Fuji rush firmware to the market? While nobody outside of Fuji can definitely answer this, signs of rushing firmware out, are really evident! Whenever a new camera is released and sold, it is almost a certainty that within 14-21 days after, a firmware bug fix will follow… This did not used to be the trend for Fuji, but since the X-T3 (so a long time), and solely for the consumer cameras (e.g. not GFX), this seems to be more the rule than the exception. At minimum, Fuji needs to focus on QA and releasing when ready, not releasing when required to, because that requirement is an illusion, and the illusion is not working in their current strategy, as I described their firmware bug fixes above.

I have exactly the same on my XH2 and XT5 with the latest firmware, absolutely useless video autofocus in these situations. There is something in the software that is not working right, even my XT3 performs much better! Fujifilm fix this!!

I mainly use MF for 90 percent of my professional work, but in a few instances of using native Fuji lenses with AF I ran into issues. After that, I said “screw it” and never used the AF for professional work again. When it comes to stills, the AF is okay, but still not that great either.

Can you please perform these tests as a side-by-side comparison with any of the competition? Just saying they do it better is anecdote - give us some empirical evidence to work with. That's the only way to prove the point and really demonstrate to Fuji how far behind they are 🤷♂️ As an aside, I use an X-T5 just for stills and honestly can't say I've noticed much difference following the latest two versions of FW. People losing their minds about cameras becoming unusable, but I've honestly seen little difference. Now, I'm not saying the AF is great either, just that it's always missed some! So yeah, it should improve with each iteration of FW, but some of these claims, at least for stills, I cannot fathom. Keep it up, though - this kind of pressure can drive change. Just do it while highlighting the quality of the competition. Showing people how much better they could have it with another brand is more likely to grab Fuji's attention...

V4.00 is better than v3.01, but still behind v2.10. It highly depends on the way how and what you shoot if you notice issues or not. So for others who claim it is unusable for them doesn't mean it has to be for you. I mainly do portraits and events, people photography, often in motion with props and or microphones, shooting with AF-C and Eye AF most of the time. It was unbearable with v3.01, so I did an unofficial downgrade to v2.10. It felt like a different camera!

@@JakeChambersOy in which case, more evidence is better still - demonstrate the same issues, compared more brands, prove it's not a one off etc etc. I'm not doubting, it just makes this more compelling when it comes to pressuring Fuji. As to the X-T5, I have to cry BS unless you can tell me how/why the earlier FW is better. I have had mine since around May last year and have seen very minimal changes in AF performance since, for better or worse! I'm usually chasing my 2 y/o using the latest primes, so a good challenge. Perhaps I missed the best version?!

@@gmh3839like edward said, x-t5/x-h2 always had ai AF from the start. Unlike x-h2s which started with standard level AF. But there's a lot of people out there that don't know how to asses a photo. Critical focus? Need an actual monitor, computer monitor with decent enough resolution, not a mobile phone and just viewing a WhatsApp/insta 2 inch by 2 inch sized image.

I always wonder, isn't at least somebody at Fujifilm using their own cameras and giving honest feedback to the development team? By now, at least somebody working for Fujifilm must've mentioned that their af system is going backwards since release. Is Fujifilm proud of their software's current state? Do they even care? Anybody reading this, imagine you work for Fujifilm, would you be happy with these results, regardless of the competition? I can't believe it is impossible to keep the focus on a head that is moving towards the camera and away in normal speed while using one of their flagship LM lenses. It just cannot be "not possible"! At this point it's not about being slower than the competition, it's about being not reliable at all. How anybody can still defend Fujifilm for this, even when not using these flawed features, is beyond understanding. Everybody profits when this gets fixed. If you don't have any issues because you don't use afc or video, make noise regardless. Fujifilm needs to wake up.

For those people who changes a camera becouse "the AF is destroyed".. I really cant believe that a camera is reduced as an autofocus machine! years ago the hype was the megapixels, today is the AF. If your camera is unable to focus in the most difiicult situations, its a garbage. 10 years ago this discussion was unimaginable, today the people is freaking out becouse the AF. A camera is just a tool. And I use a XH2s and it focus perfect in a AS mode and more or less good in AC mode with eye detect. Im a bit tired of people crying becouse the camera is not as good as Sony. Ok, then go to a Sony camera and let the machine do photo for you, but stop crying. To feel frustated becouse a camera does not focus as good as you want ... seem a bit stupid to me. Sorry, but is what i think. Its your first camera and 7 months after you are "super frsutated" Maybe its not the camera, maybe you need a lot of experience to learn. Maube we are too old, this generation who learn photography with manual focus (and i told you, 95% in focus, no complains), but you want to use an 1.4 aperture lens and always an ey in focus. Maybe you are expecting too much?

Strange argumentation. Firstly: why are you comparing what was 10 years ago? We live in the here and now. - Secondly: Fuji says: our autofocus works excellently. That is not the case. So if you decide in favour of a Fuji because of this, I can understand if you are disappointed. Especially as the autofocus seems to have got worse. Nobody is crying. But it makes sense to address this issue. I think it's particularly frustrating that the camera says the picture is sharp when you're taking it and then you realise later that it's not. Fuji needs to put that right.

What a silly way to think 🤔. When you want to do research today do you use Google or similar or are you still heading to your local library to use the encyclopedia? People are paying full price for a product and they are receiving half the functionality of the product. It's not like Fujifilm gear is cheap, in some cases they are on par or more than FF. So why shouldn't people request that they get full value for their money? It works for you then great for you but it doesn't mean others should shut up because it doesn't work for them. Unless I'm to believe that if you're hungry, go to buy a burger and when you get your order it's just the buns you're going to shut up and eat it? Because the bread can still fix your hunger right 🤦🏾...you're beyond ridiculous.

No, ridiculous is to say that AF is destroyed. I understand your point, and yes, Fuji says it works but it doesnt, thats frustrating, but come on, ist a part of the AF system, not the hole camera and not even rhe hole AF system. And yes, a lot of people are crying about this.
