I’ve been thinking about upgrading my X-T3 to an X-T5, but I would like the speedy autofocus and articulating screen, and this video is making me lean strongly towards the XH2S. I’d miss the dials but I think I’d get over it, and it sounds like you have got over it. Great review. Eric rocks!!

It is a tricky decision to make! I haven’t tried the X-T5 yet but I have a few friends who use it and love it. Hopefully I can test it soon and do a review! The articulating screen is definitely a win and the AF! I do miss the dials but you soon adjust and if you customise the camera then it makes the transition easier. Thank you! 🙂✌🏻

I was in Wex Photo today in Whitechapel this afternoon, XH2S was the camera I wanted to check out oddly enough I wasn’t taken back by it. XT5 feels more natural and comfortable to my liking, the size feels just perfect in my hand not that I’m in need for camera right now.

How about that for a coincidence! Well either way both are fantastic cameras and Fujifilm! I didn’t get the feels when I first picked up the X-H2s but soon fell in live with it 🙂 I’m hoping to try out the XT5 soon, i’m looking forward to it!

Lovely review Victoria. I have the XT 4 which really suits my photography so going to stay with it for now. One thing that I totally agree with you on is non editing of pictures. If you work on the assumption of what you see is what you get in a picture then it improves your photography skills. Falsifying a photo is not a great idea In my opinion so well done for being pure in your photography. 👍😃

Thank you so much! And thank you for this lovely comment, you are so right and I love how you have worded it! It is true, it turns photography into something else which is not photography - art in it’s own right but takes away from the traditional stuff 🙃
@_trismegistus
@_trismegistus Жыл бұрын
The distortion of the lens, the look the sensor produces converting an x-trans or bayer pattern of red, green, and blue dots into an image, the processing in the camera, the compression... all of that could be considered "falsifying" of the original source material captured as voltage levels on a circuit. So by the time you get your jpg, you've distorted reality in like 4 different ways already. Film is much more of a WYSIWYG, but still not completely. Digital cameras and files were *designed* to allow you to adjust for the limitations of the digital format. 🤷

Some form of image manipulation has always taken place. Traditional Film photography uses dodge and burn techniques adjust shadows, highlights and contrast. I think it depends on where your boundary is and what you're comfortable with. Personally, I'm not into totally transforming an image in Photoshop but I often lift shadows a little or recover highlights. But there is something nice about nailing the shot in camera

I'm so happy to see this and to know you and I have yet another camera in common! After so much deliberation I picked up the XH2S for my event photography. I have been exceedingly pleased and it fits me perfectly! I didn't think it could manage wildlife/birds as well but it's uber fast and mostly accurate. I too had issues with focus dark lit areas but as you mentioned, it's less the case without animal detection in those cases or with the proper lens in bright conditions. If this is its major limitation I'm ok with that! My only other complaint is the articulating screen. I would have preferred the flip up screen instead but it's not a deal breaker. Thank you so much for (in my case) a validating review!
@wildandfreevictoria

Thank you for this great comment Juliette! So glad to read you decided to go with the XH2S as well and that you are enjoying it. I can imagine for event photography it is very fast and accurate which is what you need! I also glad to read you noticed the focusing issues in dark lit areas (not just me going crazy!) and yes I think it is a limitation and a fair one of that, it would be hard to differentiate when it's programmed for shapes I guess and if it cannot recognise them then this does make sense. I am glad you made the point about the screen as well, it was a point I was going to make but I ended up getting use to it but I do agree, I miss the simple tilt for doing photography lower down but the complete reversible screen won it over because of the self-portrait element for me. Thank you again for the really great and interesting comment - sorry for the super long reply! I did enjoy reading your comment! Have a lovely day! 🙃

Well that means the world, they all do come from a place of heart and passion, so thank you for saying that. And yes, I did use the 100-400mm for the whole trip, it was a good focal length and size to cart around. I was really hoping Fuji would lend me the 150-600mm to take with me but unfortunately it didn’t happen but I will be doing a review of this lens. The higher aperture does make it a bit tricky to use in some condition but the quality of image for both filming and photography is beautiful - a big step up from the 100-400mm (although still a fabulous lens to use). I hope this helps 🙂

What a great review, amazing stills and film footage! Honestly making me seriously consider switching back to Fuji from full frame. That sensor is something else. The 4K120p is the cleanest I've seen from any manufacturer. Also very impressed by the IQ of the 18mm f/1.4. I was a big fan of the 23mm f/1.4 back when I was on XT2 but this new 18mm may prove to be the one! I guess 28mm full frame equivalent is the new 35mm. Which one do you prefer as it seems you own both?

It just sings to my style and personality. The filming has been fantastic on the XH2S, definitely check out my cinematic filming I released today as that reflects it's quality. The lens question is a tricky one! I absolutely adore the 23mm f/1.4 WR, I have being using that a lot and for my filming. I recently traded in my 8-16mm so that I could get the 33mm f/1.4 WR, I want the whole trio, so the next on the list is the 18mm f/1.4 WR. Thank you again and keep doing what you love! 🙃

Yes I agree, I did miss it but it is still the main design feature with the X-T3,4 &5 which is good they have kept it with that range. Hello! So I use the XH2S all the time and absolutely love it. I think the auto focus is great and very reliable. When it comes to focusing in the dark I think when I experienced trouble was because the camera cannot identify an object or it partially did but couldn’t focus right as it didn’t know where it was focusing. When I say dark I mean dark in the UK where it’s always raining and gloomy, overcast kind of weather. I have to say the 150-600mm did really well with small birds, I think the lens worked well zoomed in and focusing on a specific subject. I haven’t shot a humming bird with this camera so it’s hard for me to say, but what I can say is the camera is my go to camera and it has worked great for me 🙃
