Would be really cool if Ted could get back, at least to some extent, to history of photography and content that helps photographers to develop from artistic perspective. Not that his gear reviews are bad, but they are just one of many. Old-style content was what actually got me to subscribe in the first place and provided something truly unique.

I agree! I hope he is able to get back to doing some spotlights on photographer’s work. Also it would be nice if he started featuring some contemporary photographers who are big in the game right now. At the same time, I understand he needs to make some cash with these product reviews.

To be fair all of that AoP amazing content is up there to watch. His reviews are really good and the (sad) fact is that since the switch to gear stuff the sub count has really shot up. Cant say I blame him.

And it’s absolutely reasonable for Red to monetise his channel via reviews if they get more views, but some sort of balance between reviews and more educational things would’ve been great.

Actually, there is already a camera called X-S1. It's a superzoom camera with a tiny sensor, so it has nothing in common with the X-S10. Let's better nor scrutinize the Fuji way of naming cameras. After all, we have a camera called *X-T*200 that doesn't have a *X-T*rans sensor.

That’s a good blend of desirable features in a body likely aimed at people who want to get into the Fuji system, but don’t to deal with the more “classic” dial setup.

bought x-t3 in july and pretty happy about it, 10bit makes a big difference in my case, as well as weather sealing but if you don't need the specific tech benefits of x-t3, s10 could be a great choice as well

Fuji fixed the exposure transitions in other cameras in one of the recent firmware updates. Looks way better on XH1 and XE3.

With the PASM approach there is the possibility to store customer programs . her C1 - C4 which is otherwise not possible!

After many years of Dslrs (canon, Nikon) I switched out completely and went mirrorless ~ Olympus to be exact with its pro lenses. I have been tempted by the Fuji system but so far not even the xt4 convinced me as it is not that dissimilar to my Olympus em1 Mk II. One key factor indeed was the small form factor and versatility of the oly particularly with one prime and one zoom lens. This camera is intriguing and perhaps worth considering as a switch perhaps with the 16-80 mm zoom - any thoughts. Indeed I do as much video and blogging as I do photographs.

There was already the X-S1 bridge camera. However, the X-H2 might take on a similar SLR look of the X-S10.

Thanks Ted, another fine and very honest review. I have an XT-3 and I'm thinking of downsizing as it just confuses me. I've realised that I just want to take JPEG's in various film simulations in AP mode, and not spend hours tweaking them in Lightroom. I've never moved the ISO or shutter speed dials and have no idea what video entails 😃😳. Keep up the fine work.

@@andrelousada no, I got it new on Amazon during a promotion. It's the reason why I switched from Sony to Canon ... there are just more (and cheaper) lens options (utilising the EFS adaptor). The M5 is a nice camera - I'd like to try the new Fuji; but it's this 11mm lens that makes me keep the camera. The efs 50mm (with adaptor) is only £99 new and delivers STUNNING RESULTS) ... as does the 22mm. The EOS range is quite underrated!

Yes there is a Fuji X-S1. It came out in 2011 and is a bridge camera. The real question is why did they let the current crop of X-S cameras be so named when they have nothing to do with the orignal X-S1, other than being a camera.

It looks like a sweet camera. Is it so far removed from the X-T30 to make it a desirable upgrade, do you think? They seem to have put a lot of the goodness of the X-T4 into this camera. Very impressive, Fuji.

It's quite different compared to the X-T30. For instance you don't have 7 custom 'recipes' for different custom film looks, but instead you have 4 different custom shooting modes on the PASM dial. These let you set the same things as the X-T30, but also a lot more. So you can change AF mode, shutter type, film sim, burst mode, all sorts of settings with a single twist of the dial and have a totally different setup. Where on the X-T30 you have a dedicated dial for shooting mode (video, single shot, brackets, burst, etc) and you had a dedicated dial to manual focus, single shot AF, continuous af. Also for me personally the switch from tilt to flip screen is a big change, I strongly dislike the fully articulating screen, but it's now such a good camera for video that they almost had to, so I get it. Also... IBIS is a huge upgrade.

@@tomcrookes5689 I always carry and hold my camera in my left hand, base in the palm, finger and thumb around the lens! My right hand is for pressing the shutter. But I grew up using 35mm film cameras, they didn't have grips, hence why I use Fuji as it feels like I have an Nikon F3 in my hands lol.

@@iaincphotography6051 I grew up with 35mm too, I hold a camera a similar way when shooting but you can't walk around holding a camera in two hands plus the xt4 shutter button is right in the way of strap (or the other way round) Just don't like the ergonomics, i'd rather have function over retro style principles

With the tracking autofocus often missing or struggling to keep up with faster or unpredictable moving subjects, I think it would be a great idea to be able to extract lower-resolution stills, In-Camera, from 4K video- without the need for having to install a seperate suite to be able to do this task on your computer. Haven’t the likes of Panasonic and others, offered photo still extraction from video, in-camera, for quite some time now? Am I missing something here?

Do the "Film SImulations" apply to RAW files, or are those for JPEG only? Also, are the film simulations just like... lightroom presets built into the camera? Or are they something different?

I think film simulation cannot be applied to Raw because raw is strictly black and white, maybe the information of the selected simulation can be added to the Exif data so that the raw converter will start with that but it si at any rate convenient to be ba able to select the different simulations - if wanted - in post processing.

I would buy it as a second camera if I get the same EVF resolution as by X-T3 or X-T4. After experiencing the Canon EOS R viewfinder, even that one in my X-T2 looks minimal. 4K 60p, stills framerate, recording time all are so inrelevant features for me; but 1080p / 240fps is very nice to have.

4:03 did Fujifilm stipulate that every reviewer has to mention the film sim help screen? It's such a minor feature. AF (need to configure or set-and-forget?) and ease of operation (switching modes between single shot, video, multi shot, aperture priority auto ISO, base ISO manual for flash?) are way more important in everyday use.

Hi, I want to ask: on my X S-10, the rear scroll wheel is very tight (sometimes stops dead) and the "Rec" button makes a clicking sound. Is this normal for Fuji? Because before that I was using Canon and did not know such problems...

mmm.. I don’t know if there’ll ever be an X-S1, because the X-H2 looks like an “X-S1”! Being that “H” stands for Hybrid, should’ve called this the X-H10, or the X-H20 to catch up since it doesn’t have the dials the X-H1 had. That would’ve made so much sense.

The only issue I really have with the Fuji is that they seem to insist on keeping the electronic viewfinder directly in the upper middle of the camera instead of off to the edge of the camera. We don't have the limitation that forces viewfinders to be in the upper middle anymore! A viewfinder being off to the upper edge is so much more comfortable and you don't have to have your nose touch the camera body or screen, etc. It;s also much more comfortable when using it at a portrait angle.

Fuji has split markets. They market to purists with top cameras. Lower end cameras, they now market to the "influencer" "vlogger" type market. This is what this camera is for and its a smart move business wise for Fuji. The "influencer" "vlogger" "blogger" prosumer market is growing and massive. As a Fujifilm user for 20 years now (ack I'm old!) my only wish is that they put this body size and capabilities into a purist camera with the purist dials and dual card slots!

But the fujifilm x-t3 is discounted to the same price in B&H, wouldn't that be a better deal? Weather sealing, old school dials, a larger body for those that like it. I was honestly excited for this camera, but the switch from the distinct fuji dial system to what every other manufacturer does is really upsetting. I love fuji's for the dials and not having to dig through menu's or use just one dial for everything. I understand this camera is made to compete against the Nikon z50, and Cannon M50 MKII, but sadly they made it to clost to those cameras and lost some of the fuji feel along the way.

People can just buy the xt3 if they want the dials then. It's not like the xt3 became broken after this camera was released. XS10 will appeal to many other types of people which is good for Fuji.

It has the same sensor as the XT3, so photo-wise it should be identical. With the XS10 you get the IBIS - that's the biggest difference I think. But the XT3 shoots 4K 60p - so it's a strange mix of features.

Golly, was it that long ago! I have one that I use daily. X-S1 that is. It is great for most shooting situations... Can be a bit slow for live events and auto focus and jpeg exposure could be more reliable, but for time lapse and high volume workloads it is a real gem. No shutter counter to be clocking up and a really good lens. They were about £780 when released and I bought mine for £270 new about 18 months later. Can't wait to see if X-S10 does similar price drop escapology trick.

Well I guess this one is "kind of" the X-T40. I'm no expert by any stretch, but the X-S10 has the same sensor and processor at the X-T4, IBIS, a fully articulating screen, better video capability than the X-T30, better battery life too apparently, plus the design change with grip and Q button placement. Seems to be aimed more towards video and Vloggers than the X-T30. Personally I'm more into photos, so I'm hoping the X-T30 comes down in price when this goes on sale, but that's debatable seeing as the X-S10 will be 999 dollars body only. I've been using Canon now but want to switch to a lightweight Fuji system, and for photos the X-T30 is still an amazing choice and the one I will get. The X-T30 kit price with the XF 18-55mm is not too different from the X-S10 body only price. But yes, it is a bit confusing for me too. If you add a grip to the X-T30 and a few accessories you'd probably not be far off the price of an X-S10 kit or an X-T3 kit. Decisions decisions......

@@cryptotrader2779 The x-t30 is a great choice but don’t underestimate the benefits of IBIS to a stills photographer. Video footage shot with IBIS will always still look fairly jittery compared to a gimbal but for a photographer shooting certain subjects in low light with say, the great but unstabilized 56 1.2 then IBIS in the camera will result in far more keepers.

@@johnp515 Yeah, thanks John. I know it can make a big difference because I had a few good OIS Canon lenses. I'll see what offers are around when I'm ready to buy, and if I can get a much cheaper X-T30 I probably will, or maybe a second hand X-T3. I'm not a serious photographer, so I have no need for the latest and best. I'm sure I'd be extremely happy with the X-T30.
