Күн бұрынI finally received my Fuliwen 017 Blue Danube Fountain Pen. I have been anxious to try this highly regarded pen and was not disappointed. I unbox it, talk about the parts and features of the pen, provide some size comparisons and measurements and then do a writing sample. I went in search of Fuliwen 017 reviews and this video popped up first - Fantastic. I now have one I picked up from my post office this morning. It is a beautiful Green Marble Resin with a Medium nib & I'm planning on inking it with Robert Oster River of Fire. One thing, my version seems to be a little more polished than your model of 3 yrs. ago.

Doug, I just got this pen. It is straight up wonderful. I have not had to do anything to this pen, writes superb right out of the package. This pen is really good. Mine is Harbor Sunset.

Thank you for your very informative video. I have purchased Fuliwen M nibs and put those into my Moonman M800s. They write wonderfully smooth. Thank you very much!!!!

Thank you again! The two Moonman M800s I bought came with Moonman nibs with extremely narrow slits. They could not write at all. Not one mm. In order for me to let them have 0.14mm width of slits, I had to insert 0.3mm (!!!) thickness gauge into the slits (to avoid tines to be misaligned, I had to pull out the nibs first, then to insert the thickness gauges -- one step at a time -- from the back of the nibs. With significantly improved ink flow, without tweaking anything further , the Moonman nibs wrote OK. But Fuliwen M nibs are better, yet.

I have all three colors and love them all. Even without a cap liner I’ve never had a pen dry out even after three or four weeks of non use

Hi Doug, watching some of your older videos because I just hit the button on the and bought a Fuliwen in Stary Night. Oh, couldn't help but seeing your question on Robert Oster Bass Strait, the answer is - it is the bit of ocean between Tasmania and Australia. Fun fact, Tasmania is quite cool and they grow apples there. :) I wouldn't mind living in Tassie, as I don't like the heat being a Brit and all.

I would be happy just to sit and twirl this pen in my fingers Doug, the finish is superb and the thickness of the cap is astounding ( no cracking there) all in all a real looker, thankyou.

@@InkquiringMinds You bet. So, I just got a couple Chinese pens carried by a U.S. online store, Pensavings. I've noticed that some other U.S.-based sellers have picked up a Chinese brand or two. One of the pens is a Yiren "Oxidized Metal," fine nib. I have a Pilot Metro and Platinum Preppy and thoroughly enjoyed your cheap, crappy, brand-name "pen off." The Yiren pen, I picked up two in different finishes, cost $4.95, ea. I would choose the Yiren over the Prefounte or Explorer, easily. I would say that the Yiren is easier to hold and writes at least as well as my Metro. I would give the Metro and edge for build quality, but just an edge and the Yiren wins for converter. A Plaisir can be had for $14.25 at JetPens and that is the only one I can say I would pick over the Yiren. $4.25! A Preppy costs that much. Anyway, thanks for providing such great fp fun and prompting what is easily my longest YT comment ever! Peace.

Ah that music! Most people are probably reminded of the Vienna Opera Ball but I'm instantaneously back in the "Orion" spacecraft making a rendezvous with the orbital space station 8-) What a beautiful deep space blue! Too bad there's no clip. It's also probably too large to be comfortable for me but it's still a very beautiful pen.

I actually find the unfinished threads kind of appealing. They give a contrast that highlights the polish everywhere else. They remind me of the lathe work that created them. I can imagine that possibly this could have been a positive aesthetic choice. But it wasn't, it was a shortcut.

From Bobby-etsy before they run out instantly I got the firsts Fuliwen 017: 'Blue Danube' and (the purple) 'Harbour Sunset' because 'Starry Night' was already over. And all before the 10 of the @chrisrap52 review. The threads of this pens are polished and finished very well, and the extraordinay touch on the hand is what I like the most. Perhaps the second batch of production was done too quickly, with unfinished threads, to meet the strong demand. Also the new versions of 'Starry Night' were done more baroque, with a lot of yellow, excessive for my taste.

Nice pen. Looks like a clone of the Conklin All American (one of my favorite pen for under &75)... this would make for a great comparison ;)

Hello Dough, that is the pen that I have with the malfunctioning nib unit.. I want to try to found a Jowo or a Bock number 6 unit that is compatible with that section.. 😌

You can buy just a #6 nib alone without the feed or collar, pull the Fuliwen nib and put in a Jowo. Goulet nibs are Jowo.

Fantastic colour but nothing like the colour of the real blue danube lol for me id have liked a nice clip to keep such a big pen secure in the pocket but other than that it looks amazing👍👍

@@InkquiringMinds I wonder about the starry night. In some photos it's pretty, in others it looks like crude splotches of oil paint. Also, I think the price jumped 60% or so. I have a feeling I have enough cheap pens and I should save for an Opus 88...

@@Seefood73 Yeah I agree. Although I like the name "Starry Night" as it is evocative of the Van Gogh painting and my Visconti of the same name, that resin didn't appeal to me at all. The blotches of yellow are odd.

I ordered this pen only to have it cancelled by the seller at the last minute (due to corona virus just before everyone went into quarantine). This was on eBay - perhaps I’ll stick with Etsy. I was very disappointed!

Cool pen - I never really gave a second thought to Fuliwen pens, hmmm. Just a note: the beauty of the pen lays with the material - the snake should crawl away from that pen. It belongs on another pen, a metalic one.

Well the sellers didn't think so as they were all offered with either a gold or a silver snake. I like the black on on it.

How can we know the nib size?

I did mention it three times in the video. It is a #6 size steel nib.

Yes I show that, but I want to know how we can know it's number 6. Because I can't see the number for that. I can only se if it is fine, medium, broad etc.

I've never seen the size number on a nib before. This is a standard #6 size fountain pen nib comparable to a #6 size Jowo, Bock or Nemosine nib.

@@InkquiringMinds I mean the butt end that rests in the web of the thumb and index (the end of the barrel opposite to the nib). In comparison, a pen like jinhao 159 has a nice taper at its butt-end that allows it to sit nicely. Do you find the fulliwen pen comfortable?
