BestToDoIt7 look up the history of southern and JSU and you will see what I mean. JSU has copied Southerns methods over the years and warily 2000 and the 1990’s

I loved all the bands, but Texas Southern hit my heart. Funding marching bands is difficult. I saw Texas Southern in 1986 in Florida at the St. Petersburg Drum major for Justice celebration. Ben Butler was the director. They were small, but intense. For schools in which funding is limited, this might be the template. Still, I think schools should fund BIG BANDS. Kids in band stay in school and graduate. @Drjhodge1906

Viveca SU fan 4 life Honestly that’s SU problem... every event doesn’t require a technical long draw out piece. Yes they are collegiate and I expect a collegiate sound. Give the crowd a piece and have them begging for more. SU likes to give you a full plate like on Thanksgiving and you eyes are bigger than your gut can handle and you end up not eating it all. SU have you bored mid way through the arrangement like why is this song so long and extra. SU doesn’t have to prove their musicality, but seems to feel they have to.

24:49 gives me chills. When the entire band comes in and the perfect camera pov. It’s amazing to see the unison of the band members. I love watching the dancers but seeing the entire band had me a lil teary-eyed at moments.

JSU’s balance across all parts of their arrangements, their intonation, articulation, and dynamics are what secured their Win at crank fest. While yes SU is a strong contender and has many feats of their own, it’s going to take a lot more than just raw power to win this battle and JSU proved that.

Jaygo Negative. Southern is not more balanced than JSU. As far as building an straw man argument, I’m not doing that either. I’m point out what my ears heard with an UNBIASED opinion. You would think me being from Louisiana I would side with southern but no. That’s not the case. Southern fans don’t know when to give credit where it’s due, due to their blind allegiance to SU. They’re a great band don’t get me wrong. But, JSU just sounds better and they are more refined. That’s just facts. Like I stated before SU has that raw power. Buts it’s going to take much more than raw power to win a battle with JSU this year. It’s just that simple.

Are you Serious? As much as I love southern, idk about this one because they reverted to songs they have already played in the past crank fests while the Boom still was playing new music. It’s clear that SU and JState are the cream of the crop (Dega and Txsu shouldn’t have been there), however I think JState had a slight edge here. Not a clear knockout but definitely a win for the Boom

Are you Serious? The Alma mater was just an exaggerated joke I’m sure lol. In reference to SU playing older songs everyone has already heard many times in response to JState newer songs. I’ve been a southern and JState fan since ‘99. I’m not doubting SU and their extensive book. However in a heated battle they played older outdated songs and a basically now “spirit” song. Do the songs hit? Of course! It’s SU. But it’s more of like a “come on now” moment. Play something else in your book that hits hard that ppl haven’t heard before. SU just had the crowd on their side. Everyone knows SU crowd for the most part is biased, as it should be. That’s their home band. And before someone says anything, I am not saying that SU sucked nor am I saying they were manhandled. I’m saying they lost this battle slightly only because of song choice. JState is the only band in my opinion that can beat SU, and it will always be close (especially this year). They are both powerful, clean and have arrangements that fit their instrumentation. 10 more trumpets for JState and they would be untouchable in my opinion. And yes I play an instrument.. I play all brass with trumpet being my main instrument.

Ok if you listen on a tablet jsu is edging su out, but if you listen on a legitimate bluetooth device su has more creativity in there arrangements and still have nice volume. It's the difference between having a lac with 15`a in the trunk (jsu), bumping, and a Benz with the top of the line factory system. Both showed up and showed out. There will never be a better battle of the bands than SU VS JSU, period! SU ALUMNI, LOVE TO ALL THE SWAC!

JSU Tubas and bones are no joke.. trumpets are still weak af. Melos aren’t as good as they were last year. Overall sound good. SU Lower brass ain’t no joke either I wish the bones would push a lil more and they trumpets shining as usual. I’m gonna calm this a push. BoomBox will be nice no joke

JSU TUBAS!!!!!!! they was blowing on another level I will give them that When SU Played IDGAF and them TUBAS Blew at both Bands that got me so hype. Dega was cool but they tubas was weak to have that many. but everything else was blowing TXSU sound good just needed a better arranger wit music but they held they own. it didn't help much whoever had the Mic was clowning them the whole time. Overall I fell SU won just early over JSU. It would be nice to see just SU and JSU next time lol
