I don't think the sound deadener's cost and added weight are worth it, but I can't argue that covering the whole surface will make a difference compared to just putting small patches here and there. My go-to practice on van insulation is the exact same as you did, but without the sound-deadening layer because you can still get great performance on sound and thermal insulation without the added cost and weight of the sound-deadener.

Yeah fair one - each to thier own - i do love the van at night its mega quiet and also super quiet on the roads as i did the whole cab asell - just wanted to do a proper job - appreciate you could do it for perhaps £200 or even less! My set up was closer to £800 or maybe even 1000 i cant remember now lol

Did you stick the battens with a sealant to the bed of the van to avoid having to screw in to metal? Is it so that way when fixing the floor ply down you can screw straight in to the battens? Rather than metal again

yes exactly. it’s actually the only step I didn’t show. I used a high strength adhesive on the battens and stuck them to the floor. I’m think the brand was actually called ‘sticks like sh*t’. I got it from screwfix. exactly right. the battens are stuck to the floor so I don’t have any screws poking thru the bottom of my floor and allowing water and rust in. my floor that I had fitted is then screwed into these battens. again with screws short enough so they don’t poke thru the floor. the guys that fitted my floor are professionals so I doubt they buried any through the floor! just make sure to mark the battens locations with tape. makes a things way easier.

That weighs alot. Around 3kg m2.

naaah it’s all good. the three packs of sound deadening probably about 15/20 all up. The Thermo liner pro weighs almost nothing perhaps 2kg for both packs and the insulation weights as much as a Cumulus cloud.

How many sheets was that all together?

Hiya thanks for the comment - I ordered all my insulation from Coombe Valley Campers and I had 3 boxes of 50 for the sound deadening. the Thermo liner pro - I had two big boxes which were the 5m boxes. and then for the floor I had two of the boxes boxes. The floor insulation was thinner across the width but covered the floor with no problems. Also for the Thermo fleece (the loft insulation) I had two large boxes but bought another one from wickes as I did all my door cards and the whole roof aswell. hope this helps. Total cost was about £900.

No. If you are insulating, sound deadening is a waste of time and money, plus the added weight, they do the same job which is to stop drumming. I have a Vivaro campervan and is as quiet as any car and your van. "A temporary floor", are you crazy and "18mm ply" is way too much, 11mm is ample and if you remove the roof support bar lugs, fit minimal insulation and 6mm ply, a 6 footer can sit upright in the van. If not sitting upright will be a pain in the neck. There is also a case for fitting electrics after insulation if you can, with the exception of roof lights.

no 🤣🤣🤣 cheers for that. guess it’s each to their own. yes a tempory floor 😆 what’s your issue with it bro - didn’t want to ruin my lovely insulation. I’ve been traveling in this van and my neck is fine. also - in case it escaped your notice the vans been finished some months now 😆 can’t wait to see your similarly spec’ed vivaro

@@richard_builds_it So your insulation is visible is it? My point about ceiling height is for your followers to consider, if they are tall. My daughter did what you did and her man cannot sit up straight without his head touching the ceiling. All my comments are for your followers to consider, your van being finished. My van was done for £1k including a swivel base, R&R bed and Smev. That was 8 years and 300+ nights ago, meals cooked every day.
