Actually, bags of milk were very popular in Brazil until the 90s/2000s (you still can find them in some supermarkets). But now, boxes of milk are more common, mainly because they last longer. The holders are super familiar to me :D

Yes, last longer and tastes like crap :-( . I miss the fresh plastic milk in Brasil .... btw, I live in Canada/Quebec for almost 2 decades now, the quality of milk here is usually very good, much better than whatever they sell in the US.

non dairy milk in cartons too. last longer than dairy milk, i have to say. like over 6 months more. 1.00 stores sell them now. don't buy it in bulk barn, over 5.00 there. 2.50 in all other stores.. and like i said, shelf life is almost a yr!

When i was a kid in the 70's (in Canada) our milk was delivered, in those bags. We had a milk cupboard accessible from inside and outside, where they left it. Not sure when it stopped, or if my mom cancelled it at some point, but i don't think milk is delivered that way anywhere anymore. Surprising to see it sold in the east, it's not sold in walmart in western Canada.

I've lived in Canada for 18 years and in the west part of Canada, we don't do a bag of milk unlike in the east Canada part. Honestly, I've always shopped at most ethnic stores so I always find many different exotic fruits, veggies and products. Not sure where Ivana is from in Indonesia, Paria aka bittermelon is quite staple in certain areas in Indonesia such as west java, sumatra & south sulawesi. I grew up with bitternelon in a Sumatran household.

Nice video! Romania also used to have plastic milk bags and they looked the same. If you search lapte la pungă you will find some old pictures. But we still have the plastic wine bag in a cardboard box, just as you shown in the video, but they don't sell them in a supermarket, there are small wine stores, usually at the ground floor of apartment buildings, where you can find these wine bags

no respectable Romanian will drink wine from a bag. There are some wine brands that package the product in plastic bottles, but those are considered low end crap product. The only place people will not frown on plastic is when they buy wine from the winery directly. But still, that's as low as we go, no plastic bags, thank God XD

We don't have bag milk in the U.S. We don't have ketchup, cucumber or the All Dressed Lays chips. I'm always amazed that Canadians call Kraft macaroni and cheese "Kraft Dinner". Similar prices on groceries except for cheese and meat which is way more than U.S. But I did hear that Canada has better quality meat. I just subscribed. I love shopping videos the best. Thank you!

Up until about a year ago, we didn't sell Reese's Peanut Butter Cups either. Since their inception, they were always manufactured and marketed in Canada as Reese Peanut Butter Cups. Notice the lack of apostrophe. This is because Canada is a bilingual country (English/French), and the French language does not use an apostrophe for possessive. That's the way they've been marketed my entire life, until recently I've seen shelves with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (also made in Canada). Bagged milk is only sold within certain regions and provinces of Canada...Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes. It is not widely sold anywhere in western Canada...Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, or British Columbia. I've lived in Calgary Alberta since 1977, and haven't seen bagged milk sold here since the early 1980s. It's also not available in Newfoundland - Labrador.

Bag milk is not a Canadian thing. It's an Ontario thing if anything. As stated in the comments there are other countries that use bagged milk. But you have obviously not been to any other province in Canada as if you had, you would know that bagged milk is only in Ontario and maybe a few other small communities.

As of this very second, the Canadian Dollar is R13.62 South African Rand. The Wonder Bread comes to R37.46 per loaf. The price for a standard loaf of bread in South Africa is roughly between R15.99 - R20.99. We sell bagged milk from the fridges for about 40 years now, but sometimes you find that it isn't as fresh, as the ones you get in a 2 Litre bottle. They tend to go sour within a day or two. The US Dollar is currently at R18.60. So, it is a bit cheaper in Canada, but a lot more expensive in South African Rand ! 👍

If a few people from your home country shop at a particular store, you can speak with the store manager and request that they begin stocking a few of the specialty ingredients that you need to make some of your favorite recipes. Not all stores will do this, but, in my experience, many will. They usually recognize that, even if they were to lose a little money on those few specialty items, the people who go there to buy those items will usually do the rest of their regular grocery shopping there as well.

Reporting in from the UK. We have boxed wine, it's typically available from any major supermarket, however, it is not much cheaper than bottled wine. Lay's and Doritos are both PepsiCo brands, so not competitors. Lay's is sold as Walkers here, although due to the constant squeeze on wages many of us prefer the German discounters' private labels, namely those of Lidl and Aldi (South).

Regarding milk sold in bags, in Brazil this has always been the way. You had three types of milk, A, B &the cheaper Type C. Also the plastic milk holder thingee. The milk box arrived in Brazil's market, most notably in Rio & Sao Paulo around 1977/78. By the eighties bag milk had pretty much disappeared in most cities. Weird to see it used in Canada still as the preferred milk container.

I still remember when we DIDN'T have bagged milk. Milk came in a large, white, plastic jug with a plastic ring around the neck and sealed with a small, round, cardboard lid like a pog. When your milk jug was empty you would bring it back to the corner store and insert the plastic ring on this tall metal pole near the back of the store. The jug would slide down the pole to be picked up, cleaned and re-used.

In 90's and early 2000's Romania we had bags of milk too, but when we bought it (from Albalact and Sim), it was usually a brick of frozen solid milk, and more often than not, you'd find the "skinny" version, as in the 1.2% fat, instead of the regular 3.5%. Welcome home! Some corrections; liquor laws have changed. Supermarkets are allowed to sell beer and wine if they want, some do some don't. Some Walmarts do, some don't. Bars can sell takeout wine/beer liquor and can get a licence to have a bottle shop if they want. Most carry wine, beer and cider but others like Eataly or Stock also carry hard alcohol like Scotch or Gin. No, you don't pay tax on most food items; only on junk food or pre-prepared meals. Fruit, meat, dairy, baked goods etc are not taxed in Ontario. The cost of living in Brazil has gone through the roof over the past 20 years; I have no idea how people make do unless they are rich. My friend's family and friends in Brazil struggle and don't eat a lot of meat.😮‍💨 Last time I was in Brazil I had a very difficult time finding fresh milk; they only sold the tetrapak shelf milk. and I couldn't find any cream. I don't know if this has changed. In Mexico now you can buy fresh milk to drink. Electronic goods in Brazil are super expensive. Plantains in Canada have been around for a long time; I don't know about Walmart though. For those types of foods it is best to shop in Chinatown or at an Asian supermarket like T&T, or Seafood City (Filipino). I remember apples in Brazil being awful, though. Frito Lay owns Doritos and Lays. Pearl Milling syrup and pancakes used to be Aunt Jemima. The government selling alcohol here provides us with a lot of funding for our Universal Healthcare system. For Brazilian foods you pretty much have to go to Toronto in the Portuguese/Brazilian neighbourhood (Dundas West). You can get a lot of common Brazilian foods. Also there are other Latin grocery stores that sell food from all over SA. Most people drink a lot of Ontario craft beers and cider now; imported beers aren't trendy at all anymore.

As of May 1, 2023 most stores in Ontario Canada have no plastic bags (No Frills excepted). There are stores that don't even offer cloth bags to buy. They will sell you a brown paper bag instead.

I remember buying TVdinner frozen dish (Hungry-man) , it tasted strange for asian taste bud, lol. That's 40 yrs ago, ok. Also those apple pie, pumpkin pie and rubarb pie which is a new taste for me . Why can't the leaves be eaten? Will google it. They were all too sweet. Malaysia is already using "your own bag" esp at the bigger supermarket/hypermarket. Thanks for the nice memory of my days there! Have you heard of Knob hill farm supermarket in Toronto? A lot of Italians there.

Bag milk is also the rule in Australia só I heard. We used to have it in Brazil, but fell out of fashion. Sweden also has boxed wine. They inventeded it.

Australia has never had bagged milk, I live here. Australia invented boxed wine 50 years ago and sells here for as low as $3 a litre. Liquor, wine and beer is sold in many supermarkets here except in 2 states. Canadian prices are similar to Australian except our minimum wage is 30% higher than Canada so it is relatively more affordable.

No, no bagged milk in Australia. We do, however, have boxed wine. And ketchup flavoured chips. We have NEVER had bagged milk. Used to be in glass bottles, now in plastic bottles or cartons. I’m an Aussie - born and raised.

Really interesting as I live in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada and we have a large Punjabi/Indian demographic, so our stores tend to carry more of those “ethnic foods”. Yuuuummmy!! One of my fav things used to be the bags of milk at my grandparents’ house in Ontario. (No bags of milk here in British Columbia 😞.) And of course, we do love our ketchup chips.

It’s funny because I’m from the us and the microwave food is the same here… most people think it’s gross. I grew up on it because both my parents worked and I started staying home alone with my siblings at 7 years old. We were not allowed to touch the oven or stove until we turned 10/11 years old so my mom would find sales where the microwave meals would be like buy 5 for $10 etc. and stock up so that my siblings and I had hot food in the winter. In the summer we ate sandwiches and cereal
