janelle shifted the ENTIRE tone of the rest of the interview with that opener. Really made them check their privilege at the door. Hearing them talk about a viral pandemic & systemic racism as a “blessing in disguise” was so cringe. Thank god they got janelle in this roundtable because zendaya was clearly thinking it, but i dont think she would have said anything as she’s a little more timid it seems, but janelle was very much no holds barred right from the jump. Had to rewind that part, it literally gave me chills lmao this interview just made me love her even more

@M. Jacobson you referencing a "conservative actress" as the end all be all is literally everything i need to know lmao that doesn't even make sense. You and your "writer friend" should educate yourselves a little more instead of going through life thinking that just because bad things happen to white people too, it means that systemic racism doesn't exist. That's a very dangerous ideology to have...

Brought down the whole interview after she spoke. Fully understand what she wants to mention but. It stopped being a conversation and it was absurdly hostile. Hats off to Janelle for bravely holding up the mirror of privilege to every single one of them who were saying that the pandemic has oddly been a blessing in disguise giving them the time of reflection. Its been a blessing for them because they're privileged enough to live just fine without having to work daily, they'll be fine if they don't earn a penny for months on end...they'll be fine because they don't have a landlord to kick them out or police shooting them for being on the streets after being kicked out...Thank you Janelle for bravely not settling for empty white responses of "prayers and thoughts"..Thank you for being brave enough to make them uncomfortable by mentioning their privilege and lack of action towards solidarity. EDIT: I was only shading Jen, without trying to be explicit. Don't have any problem with the other actresses.

@@nemir6872 Because there is genuinely no reason for the police to be armed like soldiers, covered from their feet to the top of their head. A lot of situations don’t need for the police to actually be involved in, they lack of training, we know it, for example when suicidal people call the hotline, they send the police. They are not social workers, they don’t have a degree in mental health-related problems. Instead of de-escalating situations they might instead worsen it (shooting on autistic people..). You could defund the police and distribute that money to other infrastructures with more specific knowledge and experience to solve these issues. We know that involving police in situations of abuse (partners beating their wives/husbands) is not the best solution to come-up with, studies have been made and they all show that an important amount of policemen are abusive with their partners (that applies in other countries like France too). Defunding an over-funded structure to distribute more fairly would also help keep crime rates low, studies have been made to prove that as well.

@@alexfriendarts4165 As for the "police has no genuene reason to be armed like soldiers" - yeah, in Europe, where the people aren't free to buy warfare weapons and generally don't have weapons, or have extremely strict laws on weapons.... "A lot of situations don’t need for the police to actually be involved in, they lack of training" And they are gonna get more and better training via defuding? It's not even about funding it's the laws and requirements. The lower the funding, the lower the standard, the worse the police. (That being said I don't know how USA police funding works - if most of the funding goes into weapons, then the primary issue isn't funding but gun laws) As for policemen being generally more abusive. Well... Abusive and violent jobs tend to do that to people. I still can't connect that to funding. In fact that sounds like the police education, standards to becoming one, available psychiatric help and overall training quality aren't a) funded enough b) funded the right way. You wanna make police useful in your country, not disable it - that doesn't serve anyone. This is all none of my business ofc, but imho USA aint gonna solve a single police problem until they change gun laws - cuz only then will you make police "Less trigger happy/kill happy", and raising requirements to becoming a police officer - hardly achievable via de-funding. And then you have the US prison system that is complete trash... Not to mention how courts function, there are so many problems that "de-funding police" is the last thing that should be on anyone's list that wants an impactful change (long term)

They shut down the market for the whole day to accommodate the production (which is hella expensive and inconvenient for all the businesses that get affected there). The director wanted a fill scene with them walking and chatting but no direct dialogue for her. She had her stand-in do it - she didn't even leave her hotel room that day! No one has been exempted of this pandemic, climate change, cruelty, damage, pain and all the chaos in the world. just be grateful that we are still alive to reflect and be ready at any moment we will face death. many people are suffering not only a specific group of people but other creatures on earth. try to look and listen to what is happening around you... care not only for the affected but for those who harmed you. There are not enough comments about my good sis Reese Witherspoon basically gave the interviewer golden nuggets for her next questions for the other actresses. Reese is really a conversationalist, she could’ve lead this interview herself

It's scary how someone who i didn't know, i never talked to, i didn't know her history, her personality, what makes she laugh, she cries, can say exactly how i feel every sing day, in an unconscious way ... What amazing human being is Janelle Monáe!!!! She gives me chills

I wonder if Zendaya felt isolated and if she could relate to the other grown women during this interview. While she’s in her early 20s, everyone else was between ages 35 to 55. At that age, Zendaya is still growing. Just a thought.

Probably not. She’s very mature and successful for her age and has obviously worked with older actors, she’s a force. She can hold her own.

They usually always have at least one younger person during these roundtables. I think it is good to have that younger perspective. They intentionally have that one person in their 20s or early 30s and it's good to hear from them.

@@sophcass2974 How is someone acknowledging their privilege causing division?
@sophcass2974
@sophcass2974 3 жыл бұрын
@@caitlyns871 because idk why its important or necessary to mention her race, I think because we place such an importance on race it unintentionally causes more division, because we keep placing importance on our differences instead of what we have in common.

I love how Reese contributes and builds upon Janelle's conversation - it goes to show that she knows her stuff and has actively educated herself on her privilege. I'm disappointed with Jen in this interview. The other two actresses are sitting there like lemons. Zendaya and Janelle are so needed in this interview to elucidate pressing and real issues (BLM HELLO!). I understand that white people need opportunities to learn about this from black women themselves, but its disappointing nevertheless. The demonstration of black excellence in this video (black women using their voice in such a sophisticated way) is unmatched.

The thing is I’m not surprised by Jennifer’s response. IMO She’s a D class actress wearing a white privilege Tshirt. She doesn’t possess any real humanity or have any conscious substance about her.
