Yes, I agree. As Alex HIMSELF said, “whoever did this had been planning it for a long time”. They give his intelligence too much credit; it was possibly planned not long after the boat house incident. Evidently he hated Paul, I do not buy he loved Paul but loved himself more. Not for a second. What he didn’t include in his plan was the phone evidence and the amazing evidence by the car company- he was ignorant to both. I’m a bit astonished and disappointed they think this wasn’t planned to precision. Even Mark Tinsley has stated he gave AM a chance to remove Maggie from equation 12 months ago. He chose not to because he knew what was in store - and it would all become his. Think Chris Watts, no different. No love.

It was planned. He had to think of what he was going to say, he had to plan that he was gonna go to his mothers, dispose of guns, change etc. these are things you don’t think to do right after you kill your own wife and son.

Can you imagine leaving for 40 (or so he said) minutes and returning to your family slaughtered? I would be scared to death that the killers were still on the grounds.

That was the nuttiest thing I have ever witnessed! He was the most unprofessional lawyer of all those present during the entire trial. How he got voted into office as a Senator is beyond me!

Pointing the gun in the courtroom was really not ok. He should loose his license. I’m surprised the judge didn’t reprimand him. No way was that funny. Double murder due to shooting and Poot is waving a gun around in a full courtroom??? WTAF! In what world should that EVER be ok??

So Alex isn’t a liar? You can’t trust a single thing a compulsive liar says, he could’ve been saying that because he knew it wasn’t pre meditated and it’s consistent with his theory that it was because of the boat incident.

I do believe it was indeed premeditated. He may not have thought it out all the way, but I do believe before Maggie and Paul arrives at moselle, he had planned to kill them that night. He had been thinking about it for a while. Maybe not exactly how he was going to do it, but certainly that he would be better off if they were dead & didn’t know about what had gone on at The office that day. Why did he and Paul ride around the property? For one last memory with him before he kills him.

I can't imagine these poor people working all those extra hours, for months and months, doing the best they could, and then hearing Alex's counsel put them down. The nerve! So glad the judge allowed SLED Captain to have a say at the sentencing.

I agree…6 months earlier, he surprised Mallory Beach’s atty…the atty gave AM the option of removing Maggie from the suit and going after exclusively AM if AM were to give him the financial records…he wanted to drop Maggie from the suit, and thought that would be decent leverage against Alex and that that would induce Alex to disclose and settle and keep Maggie out of it…AM refused. This surprised the atty at the time…what good husband wouldn’t want to protect his wife? Her equitable shares of the properties would have been protected from suit and AM’s assets would be toast…only Alex goes down. So Alex threw out a counter offer and told the atty that he could maybe scrounge up another million but that he was ‘broke’ and Tinsley said no, that he wanted $10 million (seems a bit greedy but not to the family of the woman who died via negligent behavior). At that point, Alex should have taken the bait and settled for the $10 million and absolved Maggie…the fact that he did not points us to this: this is when Alex began his premeditation to dispose of the lawsuit (by eliminating his wife and kid, the source of the suits). This is the epiphany Tinsley had at the time he was testifying. Tinsley threatened to burn Alex’ house down figuratively speaking during this financial negotiation 6 mo’s before the heinous act whereby Alex burned his own house down by annihilating his family. He probably resorted to this extreme measure because he didn’t have $10 million and/or he was too greedy to even conceive of giving Tinsley that amount of settlement, personally from his own assets. We now know, Alex was used to stealing it.. Nonetheless, Alex was desperately trying to get Tinsley to back off of forcing Alex to disclose financial records from Bank of America. Alex had set up an acct at Bank of America under the fake name Forge. There was a real Forge account but it was at a different bank and controlled by another entity. Alex was stealing funds from the firm but he was disguising it as fees to the Forge account which the firm thought were legit…but they instead were going to the fake Forge account where Alex was stealing it. The motion to compel Alex and Bank of America to disclose all accounts with AM’s name on them was scheduled to be heard on June 10, 2021…Tinsley was just looking for money, show me the money, but had no idea what those accounts stood to expose: years of embezzlement, theft and fraud by Alex to his own firm and clients. So there was no way Alex was going to allow the Beach lawsuit to continue..he had to make that lawsuit go away by hook or by crook. Further, during that same week, the AM’s firm was expecting to receive atty’s fees in the amount of $792,000 from Chris Wilson’s office. Chris had cut the check direct to Alex on Alex’s word that it was ok with the firm…stupid and costly mistake by Chris. Alex cashed it and spent it. When Alex’s firm asked Alex where it was, Alex lied and assured CFO that Chris Wilson still had the funds and the check too. On June 7, the CFO confronts Alex and says prove it..that Chris has the money…Alex takes the call about dad dying and CFO falls back. At 4pm, premeditating an alibi, Alex calls and asks the CFO for her to gather his 401k paperwork presumably for the Beach lawsuit hearing coming up on 10th, that he knew he wasn’t going to attend. Then Alex calls Chris Wilson and says hey there’s a hiccup…ima have to give that 792,000 back to you, except I only got 600K (from a loan Alex managed to scrounge up), can you spot me the 192k and I’ll give it back to you later. So Chris is like hmmm, okay I guess…so he takes the $600k and puts in back in escrow then Chris puts 192k of his own money into escrow and cuts a check again for $792k but this time to the right firm. Alex now owes him 192k and Chris isn’t feeling it. Then Alex commits heinous act June 7…Tinsley lawsuit settles for $500k; Chris Wilson stops pressing him for money; and Alex’s firm stops pressing him for answers…and when the firm received the 792k from Wilson, they thought well it confirms what Alex said that Chris had it all along so they let it go. Then in October when the CFO is getting ready for end of year record gathering and numbers reconciliation, she decides to search how many times Alex had diverted funds to the Forge account…at that time she realized it was multiples times and to a fake Forge account to boot…they gathered the executives and fired Alex while he is still a widower that same day…the next day Alex commits the fake suicide for hire and the rest is history.

I guess we need to define “planned”. I believe he DEF planned it from the moment his accountant confronted him at work. From there he lured M/P to Moselle and waited for the perfect moment where Paul was away from the dogs and Maggie and even better yet- cornered in the feed shed, then he took his shot. He planned it out REALLY well but like any narcissist, is sloppy on certain areas because they think they’re too damn smart to get caught. Like, not having ANY blood on him but he touched their bodies and trampled through their blood? He left Paul’s phone which was risky, but he took Maggie’s then chucked it when he realized it was tracking him. He had the jacket/tarp and washed off near the kennels so he wouldn’t track blood into the house. He really thought it thru. Just not 100% through.

Good point! Maybe he also noticed Maggie didn’t wore her wedding ring!? I think it could have make him crazy because not wearing your wedding ring can give your spouse a feeling of ‘this seems defined, she really ment it when she said she want a divorce’ …. He could have had still hope but noticing the ring not on her finger anymore, he could have had understand that all was lost, my marriage is really over! This was not a mercy killing. It would have cost millions to defend PM. He wanted that case to go away for his own purposes. Maggie was divorcing and getting a forensic auditor. Now it's coming out that AM had a mistress. Reason for the 1000 dollar GUCCI purse receipt. Mercy killings ? No

And Maggie was about to find out about all his stealing and that he was about to be in terrible money trouble and he already knew Maggie didn't want to be with him anymore so it was a 2 for 1! He is Disgusting!!

I agree also. I read somewhere that AFTER the boating accident, Maggie not only knew that Paul was drinking in public, she liked his photos on Facebook while out drinking. I think alex blamed Maggie for his behavior.

In a lot of the police camera footage, you see Alex and his brother in the background, walking back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... Alex was destroying the crime scene from minute 1. And since he had such privilege and clout, he was allowed to move about freely.

There is no such thing as a perfect murder, because you cannot control everything. I believe Alex planned this for months. But he didn't plan on Bubba with a chicken, at the exact same time Paul was making a video, two minutes before Alex killed him.

I believe Alex meticulously planned this, even digging a hole days prior. After the killings, he stripped naked used the hose to get all blood off of him, used golf cart and buried the guns, bloody clothes and shoes in the hole.

He planned it out & I too think he dug a hole in advance to dispose of the weapons, clothes, shoes, etc. It's possible Alex wore the blue rain coat over his clothes or used the hose to quickly wash off after (those 282 steps his phone tracked) IMO, Alex also got off the 911 call & then called his family, friends, neighbor & housekeeper over to the Moselle crime scene to contaminate it & ruin any trace evidence. Who does that after finding their family gunned down?!? It's not logical or normal. He never believed that LE would look at him seriously as a suspect or they'd take him at his word because of his name & connections in that area of SC. Alex had means, motive & opportunity. He set it up. He did it. Technology was the nail in his coffin. I bet Alex wishes he'd have taken Paul's cell phone & tossed it somewhere in the adjacent woods too. In a way Alex would've been better off just killing himself than taking the lives of his wife & son because Alex's life is effectively over.

Yep.. It's hard for the average person to understand this but this statement is accurate. I believe that Alex had also convinced himself that his wife and Paul were in some ways responsible for his life unraveling and like narcissists do, he had mentally discarded them a while before he killed them. He no longer saw them as a benefit to his life. Paul was causing trouble and possibly exposure to his larger problems and Maggie wasn't satisfied with the life he provided and wanted a new home elsewhere, possibly feeling like she wanted to mimic the lifestyle of her sister and brother in law who were reportedly far wealthier than Alex. Also, Maggie's shame about what he'd been doing would make him angry so he wanted to eliminate that. It's complex but fairly simple when you understand how narcissists operate.

Absolutely and who knows the recent conversations Alex and Maggie had! He could easily say "Mags would have been devastated to realize she had been right all along about the money and the pills. I wanted to spare her that pain." Of course it's obscene, but narcissists have to say something to justify their heinous actions.

Wasn't Paul still facing a potential 30 year sentence? If he felt like Paul would be convinced he could have convinced himself that he was saving his son from that fate.

An “expert” was paid to testify on my behalf at great cost. Her report was a stock report she changed the name and some details. I read the report after it was completed and billed thousands for. Another persons name showed up a few times instead of mine and many other details were wrong. It disgusted me. I had to cross off many things, fill in proper info and give back to my Lawyer.

And now for the truth for Stephen Smith. Murdaugh’s were involved…

He had done the deed earlier in different clothes. Evidenced by the video Paul took of his dad by the tree. Then Alex went to his mother's house as part of his alibi. The guns and clothing hasn't been seen since.
