Tigerman1138 That's probably a great untold story, female Viet Cong involved in the action. I know one that survived the shooting in the mountains around "Pinkville" but is slowly dying of dioxin poisoning. She was considered some kind of hero and government gives her a monthly stipend and a home but it barely covers her daily living needs much less medical costs. She never talks about her exploits. I also knew a Viet Cong medical doctor who traveled in the mountains treating the injured. Before she died of cancer related to dioxin poisoning, she set up her practice in Saigon to treat the poor. Very dedicated and a wonderful personality. Another one who did not speak of the war. But she helped me, knowing full well I was an American vet.

Overall, I think this scene, along with the part where she says "Dau qua. Dau qua. Shoot me" and Joker shoots her, is one of the best in cinematic history and perfectly sums up the main theme of the movie. Only one thing that may be inaccurate. It was usually easy to tell who was shooting without seeing them- VC may squeeze off a few rounds because they did not have an unlimited amount of ammo and they had to make every round count. She fired off rounds like an American.

I think you all are missing the point of this scene. I do not think in any form or fashion that the film is trying to side with the North Vietnamese or for Americans for that factor. The film is a study of the dehumanizing aspect of war. This is first done in the training camp then followed on the battlefield. This scene along my interpretation shows when this dehumanizing has come full circle. I don't see her killing as wrong, because the American soldiers are defending themselves. However it shows what war reveals, the ultimate brutality of humans and the complete unjustified notion of it. Even though this is not my favorite film by Kubrick the look on her face made entirely clear to me the message this film was attempting to convey.

Think about the peace badge he was wearing as well - how can a man want peace as well as war? So many scenes are echoed from earlier parts of the film, the reason he keeps doing the John Wayne accent is his best friend is called cowboy.

This is the most accurate portrayal of Vietnam my dad has told me. He was in for 3 total years (way more than minimum) and saw so much crazy shit. He never has been a person to embellish either, so I 100% believe all of his stories. Being in the war from ages 22-25, which is 10 years younger than I am...it's crazy to me he went through that shit. All of his friends from home had died or been severely wounded. I think after that he gave up on making real friends, just acquaintances and relationships til he met my mom in '79. I'm 34 if that helps put things in perspective. One of my favorite stories is how there were idiots about not cleaning those things and they would get jammed so easy over there cause they were M16-A1's...and whenever he got a chance he would take any enemy AK because of the better penetration in jungle fire fights. He got in trouble (of all things) for using one, when at the time it was the superior assault rifle. That thing could be put through hell and still run. The M16's jammed on clockwork. So he would be in the battlefield and people would panic because theirs would jam and my dad never had that happen. He also carried 200 rounds of ammo on him (20 magazines), guys would go in with 2 like idiots and cry for more ammo from my dad. He knew that if he wasn't prepared at all times he was dead. So ya two bandaleirs (don't care on spelling), and 4 ammo pouches. People made fun of him until they were crying begging for some of his sweet extra clips.

In the book the girl gets shot by rafter man, she starts praying instead of asking to be killed, then Joker shoots her in the eye with a Grease Gun (since earlier he lost his M16 in an attack). Afterwards when Cowboy (who was alive in this part, like most of the squad since they were supported by an M48 tank) praises Joker for being hard, Animal Mother (who in reality it seems to be a psycho try hard) chops the sniper's head off with a machete, after that Alice and Rafter are deciding who keeps the sniper's gun, rafter proceeds to spray the headless dead body again to claim the kill and keep the rifle therefore Alice chops her feet with a machete and stuffs them in a canvas bag.

This is my rifle. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

There is quite a difference between holding a rifle on your shoulder, deliberately aiming and carefully squeezing off a single round and firing full auto from the hip. Had you ever fired a weapon you would realize that. As brave as the VC may have been, the majority of them were either imprisoned or executed by the N.V. government after the war - they decided they couldn't trust folks who had turned on their own government. What they were really afraid of was folks who may fight back once the brutality of communism became apparent...

One thing is the movie required her to not penetrate the wall. Second thing is she is using Czechoslovakian VZ. 58, totaly different gun, which when fully loaded had only 30 temporary, combustion prone parts interchangable with an AK-47. It had supperior handling, higher precision and overall better reliability than AK-47 and AK-74 combined.

Yes. Men, women and also children fought in the Viet Cong. Many of the men and women were volunteers, not 'conscripted' In real wars where survival is at stake people don't have the luxury of only sending tough men to fight.

Sniper: This unnamed female sniper appeared in the Stanley Kubrick Vietnam War film Full Metal Jacket as the final and most significant enemy faced by Joker and his allies in the film's climax. Thus, she is arguably the primary antagonist of the film. She was portrayed by actress Ngoc Le. images.complex.com/complex/image/upload/t_article_image/ghxrfi0b9iu7d4pcekea.jpg

So you're disgusted at the girl sniper for brutally slaying the Marines in the last part of the film. Okay. But what about the "Get Some!" Marine helicopter gunner who is laughing his head off while he indiscriminately shoots everyone he flies across - including non-combatant women and children?

Section 8 is a mental illness most likely caused by early ptsd the poor farm girl having to fight for her napalmed rice paddy is disgusting because of what desperate people will do to those who aren't responsible like doc jay and 8 ball the door gunner is a man driven insane by a war he didn't ask for but was sent too. Both are disturbing costs of war with it's own side effects people don't talk about the door gunner because it's "don't ask don't tell it'll go away" my whole point is War is fucked up no matter what side you're on the door gunner scene did get some people talking

I always get two answers: What happened with Joker's M16? 1. It jammed, systematic of the era and a major improvement post war 2. It was out of ammunition and the click was merely the sound of the empty magazine attempting to fire.
@teddyroth15147 жыл бұрын
m16s where notorious for jamming, many soldiers often picked of AK47s from fallen vietnamese.
@13thvarebel167 жыл бұрын
Since the M16 (at least the modern variants and I'm pretty sure the older ones too) is designed for the bolt to lock back on an empty magazine making it impossible to release the hammer with a trigger pull, I'd say the CLICK was either the hammer dropping on a faulty primer, or more-likely the magazine spring binded and the next round didn't chamber so the hammer fell onto nothing. Either way, major OH-SHIT! moment when Joker's weapon didn't fire! This was a great scene.

A Marine with 3 tours told me M-16 was very reliable. The problem at one time was that an American company that won bid to supply ammo, used cheaper gunpowder that caused jams. Blame the traitors at that company who didn't care that our soldiers got killed. They should should have been brought up on capital murder charges.
@bigsmegga5 жыл бұрын
vietnam era m16s didnt have problems because of the platform, the us army wanted to save money and changed the powder type which altered the gun's pressure curve, with a drastically higher psi and higher cyclic rates would lead to extraction failures since the bolt head would rip off the cartridge's backend and cause it to double feed.

MsWiggitywiggitywhac No not really, America had absolutely no right to be there. In fact the instigators of the war were the Chinese communists who were set up by your own American establishment and were also responsible for the death of 80 million Chinese people. Don't believe anything you see in American propaganda history because 9 times out of 10 it's complete bullshit.

Thắng Nguyễn Văn So true, the US helped the Viet Minh in the saddle and of course it turned itself against them. Just as it did when they helped Saddam Hussein fight Iran and when they helped a certain mudjahadeen called Osama bin Laden fight the Russians in Afghanistan. And let's not forget our friend Ghaddafi.... And what are we doing today? Arming the Ukranian army against the Russian separatists, helping South Korea against the North and sending weapons to rebels linked to al Qaida in their battle against the president of Syria. I am not saying the countries and men above aren't (or weren't) scum states or crooks. I am just saying the US has a history of making bad policy support choices.
@BLY999 жыл бұрын
***** Actually the worst part is that the Americans were supposedly there to stop the Communist advance, and they stopped at nothing to achieve. Even by supporting one of the worst group of murderers in the history of the world, the Communist Khmer Rouge, who slaughtered millions of their own people. In the end it was the Vietcong who put a stop to their murderous regime. And what happened after the war? The Vietnamese had to fight a war against Communist China to protect themselves, proving that fighting the Vietnamese achieved nothing and that they were not a danger to America anyway.
