70% possession don’t mean anything when it’s mostly in your defensive half passing side to side. Pep was visibly frustrated & even the commentators were shocked city couldn’t progress the ball

True and if United players were more clinical it could have ended up with 3 or 4 goals. Rashford had two clear cut chances in the first half.

Apparently City "dominated" yet only had one shot on target with all that possession .😂😂 Is dominating not creating multiple chances? & the opposition making saves which De Gea didn't do. Yet, nobody mentions we could've been 2 or 3 up at halftime if Bruno or Rashford finished the chances.

AwB would play more if he was more offensive with the ball; not handy with a cross or picking out a pass, clever one-touch from the back, but he's defensively very effective. dalot plays because crossing and competent offense upfield is more important to a fullback than defending. if needed i could almost see AwB covering casemiro in the middle of the field and just stopping everything and playing simple short passes.

Yes Ten Hag has done brilliantly but it’s early days. Didn’t Solskjaer and Mourinho do well in their early games as well? I always get the feeling that more than 50% of teams do quite well with a new manager for the first initial games; possibly because the players are playing out of their skin to impress the new manager. But yes, Ten Hag is nearly out of the honeymoon period and the team keep improving at the moment.
@MJ-fs4ne

@@davehill5764 difference is, Eric Ten Hag will kick out any fridge players. Even if you are a talented player, but not listening to him and not adhere the rules. Mourinho were sacked because he lost control the dressing room. Same goes to Solskjaer, always being nice to his players. Thing is, Eric Ten Hag has different tactics in his sleeve to counter attack any team with different playstyle. He can convert players into other position and still played well. If you watch Mourinho's game, it's always playing park the bus. Same goes to Solskjaer, he just let his players play use their individual skill to win.

It’s so hard for these pundits to simply say United played really well. Tactics were set up well. That United kept pace with City easily in the first half. Stevie got there closets. City turned it up after halftime but they were not clinical. Especially with Luke Shaw at Cb and Haaland on your team and 70% possession it wasn’t a we rely on De Gea to keep the score close. Even with the Fernandes’ goal gone it’s 1-1.

When casemiro was first signed I was pissing myself laughing because of the money they paid and I thought he was more the beneficiary of Real Madrids squad than he was the contributing factor to their success. But boy oh boy I couldn’t have possibly been more wrong, it’s staggering not only the impact casemiros had on the squad but his individual performances too! It’s just a shame that he’s already 30 instead of 27 cause players like him make the entire league so much more exciting.

EtH's philosophy is based on positional and possesion-based domination, and yet in recognising and nullifying the strengths of strong opponents (Liverpool, Arsenal and City) he's produced deserving game-winning performances against all these opponents at Old Trafford (underlying numbers prove this: xG of 5.06 - 3.32 across the three games). A sign of a top-class coach, combined with his willingness to make big (and ultimately correct) decisions.

Ale is spot on about Haaland. He’s not failing City, Pep, his philosophy and his system is failing Haaland. City wingers don’t drive and attack into the box like they did last season or even as they did this season before the WC and the only reason I can think of is they’re terrified of losing the ball bc of Pep. PSA: possession stats mean nothing if you don’t create anything and if you don’t create chances, you can’t win games.

He was a wrong signing for City. His link up play is mediocre. His passing is average. He's a Johnny on the spot striker, and that's why City are struggling. He'll score all of City's goals because he depends on his teammates to feed him, which prior City's strikers like Aguero doesn't usually get. When he drops deep, he can't beat his man or make link up passes. Depending on crosses against a great team is hard. United's full backs nullified any wing threat City have.

Look at how well he played when the team was creating chances - 21 PL goals in 15 games. But that number started drastically falling as the creativity of the wingers and midfield did until now, he’s played 3 games with no goals and City as a team created 3 shots on goal in 3 games (one of which was a header by Grealish yesterday). That’s utterly disgraceful. 3 shots on goal in 3 games thst Haaland has played in. That’s not a Haaland problem it’s a City creativity problem.

It's a good point, what's the reason in having Haaland on the pitch if you're not going to leverage that threat of the ball over the top, or even just a deep cross in towards him? He can't really get involved in neat passing attacking build up but you could still occasionally play to his strengths while having 65-70% possession. Otherwise if you want to pass the ball into the goal swap him out for a player who can do a much better job of that like Alvarez rather than having a CF who can't get involved.

The interference sub-rule of offside looks to rule out only physical interferences and not psychological ones. So, if the player was blocking line of sight or path or access to ball of the opponent, he's to be penalised and pla is to be rolled back, but if the opponent simply falls for the trap and changes his actions even when the aforementioned criteria of impedement is not met, he can have no complaints. Rashford was neither blocking Ederson's line of sight for the ball nor Akanji's access to it. Thus, he was deemed not active in play and the Fernandes goal rightfully stood. It's not illegal to benefit out of confusion. That's why they say you should play to the whistle. City players should have cleared the danger and then appealed. They did not, hence they paid the price for the way they played.
