Lisandro has been from a different breed since his debut in the Argie League, in every team he played and in the NT, he is a generational talent regarding his role, because he exceeds what is required for it on a technical level and his personality is a rare mixture of aggression but extreme composure and witt. Plus he has a positive leader in him, he makes his mates better, he makes his mates trust him 100%...that is also why any fan from all his teams loved him since day one.

I think he's played more games than Varane who has really been injured and at other times rested. Martinez played every week initially....and was only rested after the world cup which they've had a rotation since. So by that measure Stevie should say anything about Varane either. The reality is that they've both been good and in addition Martinez seems to make even Maguire look better when he plays with him...He partners well with anyone of the other CBs

Martinez was suspended for Barcelona away game and missed the first 3 games back due to celebrating world cup win and only played a few minutes on 4th game back. The fact he is still the player with most minutes played for a defender shows you how much he has played.

Also ten hag also had plan B in luke Shaw who can play left sided CB, so plenty of options for ten hag. But it’s ironic martinez height many pundits were convinced would be the issue, when a certain Liverpool CB over 6 feet tall is a current problem in the Liverpool backline, that Jamie thinks he would do better currently. Martinez couldn't play the first game because he was suspended, simple as that. Varane before Martinez came along, was struggling with Maguire. After all, it's Maguire. Them 2, Varane/Martinez are probably the best cb pairing in the EPL right now, they complement each other so well. Varane now has a guy besides him he can trust. At one stage in an attacking move vs Barca, he took it to them and was the furthest player forward untill Antony botched it. That move ain't happening with Maguire stood next to him.
