Angela Rye is spot on when she says we have to focus on being discipline enough to form a black agenda. I see this in my everyday dealings. We just don't unify enough at the right moments. This conversation is a prime example in a way. At the end of the day Nick and Angela have to agree for the greater good at some point.

@shawnedwards170
@shawnedwards170 5 жыл бұрын
Much respect to Nick Cannon for wanting to have the conversation, but the topic is played. Black people are two separate factions still in fighting over horizontal issues (Dr. Claude Anderson). We all know there is a still existent system known as white supremacy that was designed to gain and maintain control of the earth’s resources on behalf of the self appointed dominant white society. We can call that capitalism or discrimination or bigotry or prejudice, all to avoid the true terminology. But we all know that this exist. That having been said, the first faction wants to discuss bogus candidates, voting rights suppression, and a false history or our ancestors intentions (keep in mind Black family that you had the right to vote since 1870-15th amendment). They want to talk about immigration, people of color and minority rights, gun reform and gay and lesbian rights. All noteworthy for discussion, but all horizontal. The second faction, of which I am so proud to have only recently qualified to be a part, understands that our single issue as Black people is racism. That every sub-system in this world (nine areas of human activity according to Nelly Fuller) is controlled under this singular premise that until Black people empower themselves with wealth and knowledge as a group, that no other issue impacting us is more than conversation material. That group, my group, is a minority within Black society. But we are growing. We understand that all things are about capital. We understand that all discussion of solution must start with economic empowerment. We understand that we have been, are currently, and forever will be hated for our Blackness. But that we are victimized because of our poverty. That once we have amassed some degree of wealth within our group we can buy politicians, control judges and police, build our own schools, employ our own people at businesses we control, and some day down the road create a political party with candidates we present that we can reward or punish based on their loyalty to Black people alone. Work and study my people. Save and grow your assets. Improve your credit. And find others who have done (not doing and not trying to do) the same. Aggregate those resources for the purpose of Black people being economically free. Everything else here and anywhere under the system of white supremacy is for sale, including freedom from persecution and tyranny. We have to be able to afford the price. And in tough times when you want to deviate and stray, remember our agenda is singular in purpose, our revolution starts in your household, our new era is in the hearts and minds of your children, and of future is only as real as your efforts, and my efforts, and our efforts collectively. You and me and us and we. Black first.

What I got out of this is from Angela's point, we have to get in the system to learn the system to overthrow the system. (I believe we can create our own black nation). From Nick's point, we do need to get back to doing groundwork in our community. There needs to be more organizations, more support of black businesses, more community uplift. From both of their points, voting is not the only answer. We can have a revolution, a new age, a black nation if we wanted to.

Now I’m all about creating our own yet with Africa selling out their country they will be the new slaves. They are allowing some of those invaders to fund them with loans they cannot pay back. Should we really go from one oppressor to multiple oppressors as the US are also putting more Military bases in Africa. Is it not who ever controls Africa control all the world resources? There is something going on in Africa and it’s not good. Yes I will continue to vote. If you don’t stand for something you will accept anything. They are winning they don’t want us to vote!

I think people who solely rely on politics and integration are ultimately naive to the corruption of the system and the lack of respect for the black community. Any group or system that has the advantage has no reason or motivation to be fair or equal to those under them at the expense of their own power. This isn't a perfect world with rainbows and unicorns where human beings want to be fair for the sake of being fair. You have to earn and gain and command respect in order to ultimately get it, and it will NEVER happen within a system we are INTENTIONALLY setup to lose or not be equal in.

Integrationist is a limited and I believe incorrect way of viewing a lot of how she moves...it is about Agency and carving our your RIGHTFUL space...To be a separatist in a country where you pay taxes and have literal blood in the soil and skin in the game is a bullshit defeated false sense of rebellion. YOU ARE OWED AND HAVE A RIGHT TO THIS SHIT! Now if you aren't paying taxes and have a plan to move elsewhere or can operate with some type of diplomatic immunity in this country great...but that isn't realistic (if it is please let me know). You can take ownership, get informed, get empowered and get yours...or stand out side the gates and bitch and moan about what they toss over to you...I say all that as a man that is very much "Fuck Government", but I still have to be informed. I still have to figure out how to better direct my tax dollars rather than have it cycle back into a government that doesn't serve our best interest and doesn't represent me...

if you can convince a group of people that have been oppressed since they were taken to this country, that voting is the solution, than you convince anybody that came here willingly, that voting is the solution. your vote doesnt matter because it will actually be counted, your vote matters because of the optics attached to Blacks voting. the country uses voting to measure how close the masses are to descent. voting assures the country that its citizens still believe in said process whether it truly works or not. so again, our vote matters, voting matters...in an untainted, un-poisoned system. this is not that. whether republicans block votes in the interest of there own candidates or not, they are doing it bc our vote is indeed powerful, but not in the interest of our issues and concerns. its powerful bc of what weve been through in this country, and if u can convince the children of slaves to vote in a system designed by said oppressor, you can get anyone (that came here willingly) to participate, and therefore believe that the solution lies within continuing to do the same thing over and over.

Angela made Nick look like a fool for spewing that nonsense & if you would’ve said this out loud she would’ve tore this flawed mentality to shreds ... as she said it’s only the 1st step to doing other things ... but I’ll say this- as blacks our biggest issue is us coming together & unifying ... nothing will work unless we start to understand & agree on a common agenda ... Another thing, in regards to black people, we need to be futurists, as oppose to thinking traditionally. Historically, each generation has been, relatively, better off than the last, yet we look back and try to mimic what the last generation did. Keyword being mimic. OMG! I was listening to Angela Rye's podcast and thought to come to KZfaq to see if there was a video (I just learned of Cannon's Class)! Fatu's comment was so heart-wrenching and a true question that I find myself pondering (definitely not black elite, but someone of perhaps black privilege having obtained my bachelor's from a HBCU (Central State in OH), MBA and currently working in the (white) philanthropic sector, as a transplant from a more progressive metropolis to a tiny Michigan community shaped by the great migration of blacks from the south to the north; 2019 still gives way to Muskegon, MI being one of the most racially segregated locations in the nation). This convo is SO enlightening and I'm reminded to check and assess my own privilege AND it makes me a bit more grounded in my personal fight in holding those currently in power accountable and in the advocacy of diversity, equity and inclusion within this community (as I often struggle with sticking around and fighting for change and standing up for the most marginalized in this community i.e. people of color vs. knowing that if I drove 40 miles south east to Grand Rapids, MI then I could be making $20K+ more doing the same thing with the ability to grow in my profession! Thank you for this conversation because it's helping me weigh the magnitude of staying and fighting vs. "chasing my own personal bag" for that of my family and career (ego-economins vs. culture and community 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾... wow, the best description I've heard yet)!

Angela Rye has her interest at heart, she is not in the same position as Nick so she can not forget her own position in life; she has to have her interest at heart. She was, is, the wrong person for this conversation. The answer to the question, 'should we vote' IS NO. However she did make a good point, which is, basically we need a spook to sit by the door... but we do not have to vote! But then again, if we don't vote, how can we get to be the spook by the door?

I understand what you are talking about, but it’s very hard to actually pin point which families were the owners and who are descendants of slaves. The Irish slave trade also took place as well here in the US. I feel like at this point we need to move on and stop asking for reparations from things that happened in the past. Slavery has existed in almost every single country through out history.

Brown Sugar let’s be honest why should white people in 2019 that have nothing to do with slavery from years ago have to pay? That’s just silly. If you want change, suggest solutions that would help out the community. How do we reduce the black single mother rate? How do we reduce the black on black crime? How do we create a plan in order to not see government assistance as a lifetime dependency? Let’s start providing real solutions and not constantly playing victim for actions that people now a days are not at fault.

Want to say thank you for putting this entire channel together and dropping knowledge on KZfaq where everyone can see it. I'm from the D (westside 7 mile niggas kno was it is) and I really see something in your channel and this episode in particular that I wanted to comment on. 1. Cannon's class can become something of an annual convention where black people meet from around the country (maybe even the globe) and learn more about themselves and the world that we live in. KZfaq is great but I believe that us as people learn a lot more through personal interaction and the next powerful step to achieving something great could come from that annual convention hosted by your's truly. 2. This should be a reoccurring episode that happens at a different HBCU around the time of every presidential election because this conversation provides us (people who are figuring a way out to progress our community) with context of the ways that other people like us think we can do it. It'll allow us to have some options/different views on how we may want to go about doing that. Somewhat of a 4 year reminder that says this where we are still and here's how we could move forward. But thanks for looking out!

I really appreciate this forum, which involves/includes the youth - our future. I hope that Brother Nick continues this, because it is a means which we can be used to help to bridge the disconnect between the youth and the elders. The forward thinking energy of the youth, combined with the hard-earned wisdom of the elders and our Ancestors is a great beginning towards effecting substantive transformation. I also hope that Nick will continue with this platform and visit other high schools (elementary schools too), colleges and universities and facilitate constructive conversations which affect our communities and help us to focus upon the most basic and vital methods and strategies to lift us out of this abysmal mental and spiritual stagnation which we have been plagued with for the past 399 years - a mental malaise which continues to this day.

Angela Rye did not answer one question with integrity, not one strategic, solvable, or premeditated solution. Her go-to response is voting or something centered around voting. And the guilt trip tactic is old and tired. The young woman gave a very real example of the reality of poverty and how it hinders generations from receiving the information necessary to survive yet go out and vote for the necessary candidate and her first response was to give this young woman a hug. The last woman to ask a question, which was very thorough, Angela's response was to hold our Black elected officials by writing emails, letters, and protesting, ending with the sloganism "your voice matters." She was totally underprepared and is insulting the intelligence of these young minds.

They're also incapable of producing results because we don't hold them to a high enough standard for them to be sharp enough to solve problems. Nick doesn't know what he's talking about and Angela seems underwhelmed with the conversation. I agree with the point Nick is trying to make but he doesn't have enough information and hasn't done enough critical thinking about it to hold a debate for it. He's just saying things he's heard other people say that he agrees with, whereas Angela has actual cause and effect behind her points and has thought about them critically (though I don't agree with her). Angela's point is easy to disprove, but Nick doesn't have the understanding, language, or experience with the subject to do it. I applaud his curiosity and passion because that means he'll eventually get there.
