She remembers every detail about everything. She went over and over it through the years. She's in shock that she got caught.
@drinkwater3199 күн бұрын
She’s definitely in shock but what really bamboozles me is that she clearly didn’t have a strategy ready for when this day came around, and she would’ve known the ‘ knock on the door ‘ was coming one day. Over the years the file and evidence held by the LAPD got smaller and smaller as someone was getting access to it and taking it. But the one thing they were after, the DNA swab from the bite mark, wasn’t being stored in the LA police’s lock ups. It was held, unknown to anyone, at the County Court building. From day 1 of the investigation into Sherry’s murder members of the LA Police were actively covering up for Stephanie. These two detectives, even after getting the DNA match, met with hostility and obstacles from other officers. Stephanie Lazarus was a very popular and well liked officer, decorated for bravery, and rewarded with a highly regarded and coveted job on the art crime team - which she eventually led….and she was excellent at her job, respected and liked by everyone she came into contact with - except maybe these two officers, who know the truth of her. Personally I think there was only one possible scenario that Stephanie could have adopted that may have seen her getting off with a jury, reasonable doubt of murder and possibly guilty of manslaughter or even justified homicide - and that starts with her keeping her mouth shut immediately…..the prosecution case against her started the moment she sat down in that interview room - and so too did the defence case. Her only chance was admitting the fight but denying she shot Stephanie. She left the house after the fight and Sherry was murdered by the two men who were seen around the building, and responsible for recent break ins, they were attracted by the conflagration from Sherry’s house and took advantage of it. Stephanie lost her police gun in the fight and that’s the weapon used by the so called ‘burglars’ to shoot Sherry……….its a bit of a convoluted defence but it does answer most questions and it’s a scenario a jury could believe was possible - a jury looking for reasons to acquit

The book is amazing. I've seen reviews that complain about the 600-page length & the amount of detail, but I found it fascinating. What it reveals (unlike all the true crime shows on tv) is just how *very* close Lazarus came to getting away with Sherri's murder. The detectives from the Van Nuys Homicide Squad, who were the ones who actually solved the crime, were so appalled by what *wasn't* in the Rasmussen file that they conducted their investigation in total secrecy, fearing that the LAPD brass would shut them down before Lazarus could be brought to justice.

My friend was murdered 30 years ago. I remember lots of details of that nightmare, what happened, her fiancee shot her in the back 5 times then himself in the thigh. I thought right away something very strange about that. I thought that pos is Guilty of something and he was.
