When my son was two I took him the barbers. He managed half a head then the barber said he wouldn’t do anymore because my son was distraught. I had to do the other half at home. Turns out it was the clippers. When you used scissors he was fine. He hated the noise and sensation of the clippers. He’s now 20 and is still the same. He’s not autistic. He just can’t tolerate them at all.😮

God bless the barber and all who helped this young man. Patience and understanding is difficult when we are stressed and trying to resolve an issue and feel we must hurry. This reminds us to take as long as needed when something this scary and emotional is happening. And also to empathize with the other person. Feel what they are feeling and ease them with calm and loving attitudes.

Then a hairdresser who was chatting with a coworker slipped up cut his ear with the scissors. That was it. He didn’t step foot in a salon for 4 years. I have a 3 year old autistic son and doing he's hair is a nightmare,I can't take him anywhere to get it cut,I did before we knew he had autism and my god he screamed he was sick it wasn't nice for him,so I do it myself at home now,it's is one of the hardest things to do with him and he's non verbal so can't tell me anything,it's almost like it's hurting him and once finished it takes him along time to get out of he's upset phase,this hairdresser has the patience of a Saint,well done

Such love and kindness rallying around this little guy. I have 2 autistic grandsons. We can't take them to get hair cut because they won't let anyone cut their hair. My daughter does it @ home. One thing i noticed about when they got their cut is they didnt understand seeing their hair falling from their heads. I noticed this little guy did the same thing. He even was rubbing his head. ❤😊❤

My heart breaks for this little guy. So many things that we do without even blinking, other people find extremely stressful. Seeing his fear was so hard. The fact that this barber found a calling try to make life a little bit easier for people that for some reason needs some extra patience is so heartwarming. ❤

My son has sensory processing disorder and many people are very ignorant regarding a child who struggles with this disorder in relation to someone without sensory challenges. It’s very difficult for some adults to have PATIENCE AND COMPASSION for children who may not be fully diagnosed with ASD but still have the same behavioral challenges as such with sensory processing disorder. I tried to get my son’s hair cut once and the barber was getting irritated and clearly annoyed because my son was squirming and making noises due to the noise of the clippers. I still havent found a barber that can manage cutting his hair without losing patience. Empathy is needed for children with challenges we take for granted!
