I care that the falcon has come to an end BUT I'll always always have one in my driveway. I've owned them for years and did a shit load of driving. They just keep on going. cheap, safe, reliable and comfortable. love the things.

The barra will go down as a straight six legend. I had a standard ba wagon and it was great. Made the v6 gm seem like a 2 cylinder skoda

Some background for those Stateside :) Sorry for the length. Excellent family car, both Commodore and Falcon. Was a big part of Australian Culture Holden Vs Ford. Until recently............... The 90' version of the falcon the 'AU' was short of the mark (I owned one) did a lot of damage to Ford Australia. Ford Australia late 90's was in dire straights. Change of Management to Geoff Polites and a monumental change for the Falcon and culture at Ford. Updated exterior design, updated 'Euro soft touch' inspired interiors, multi-link rear suspension, heavily updated inline sixes, DOHC 4.0 N.A and Turbo, 4.0 LPG. Addition of 5.4 SOHC and DOHC V8 replacing the V8 Windsor. Same changes applied to Fairlane and LTD except Turbo 6 and V8 DOHC not available. Not sure if LPG was available on long-wheel base sedans from the factory. Station wagon available only with Barra 6 and leaf suspension. Utes (leaf suspension) available with all versions of Barra 6 and both V8s auto or Manual. Column shift available as well. Later 6 speed ZF autos available, this in an 'affordable' daily driver family rear wheel drive car making 350-400HP. Even the suspension (Multi-Link Rear Suspension) standard in all Falcon sedans and Fairlane/LTD, was a revelation at the time in a rear wheel drive family sedan. I remember reading the test from Wheels magazine(when the BA Falcon came out) did with a base Falcon XT 6 against a base E-Series Mercedes and a BMW 5 series. They were surprised how well the base Falcon handled and steered against the base Mercedes E-Class (almost as good as the BMW 5 series), the falcon even had more better supple suspension. BA Falcon wins car of the year 2002 from several publication even beating the then new Mazda6. Geoff Polites then gains approval from Detroit to build the Territory SUV. On top of his achievements with winning car of the year for the BA and Territory. He transform the culture at Ford Australia. I have friends who worked at both Geelong and Broadmedows whilst he was in charge and they have such a high respect for him. They speak very highly of him. He would greet everyone by name on the floor and would make everyone in the office and management including himself, to work one day per year on the line! Geoff Polites a car person who was known to frequent Ford Falcon Forums then gets promoted to head Jaguar LandRover circa 2005. Sadly passed away 2008. His replacement/s, well lets just say it went down hill from there. Holden were making a lot of good choices during the 90's, the market loved the VT commodore for it's styling and presentation superior to the 'AU' Falcon. VT series 1 Holden Commodore available with 3.8V6 and supercharged 3.8 V6 and 5.0 V8. Long wheel base and ute versions. Series 2 available with LS1 5.7 V8 replacing locally built 5.0V8. Holden Commodore later exported as Pontiac GTO. Roll on the VF Commodore, exported to USA as Chevrolet SS. Versions available in Australia: Sedan, Station Wagon, Long Wheel Base luxury sedan and utes. Drive trains currently 3.0, 3.6 V6 (LPG recently discontinued) and 6.2 LS3 V8. I suspect Holden had big plans (export) for the VF seeing the amount of work and development done on it. Is there another comparable rear wheel drive family car/station wagon available brand new at the price in Australia?............... From what I've seen regarding the Commodore's imported replacement, if true... No comment. Sitting in Turbo versions on the Falcon Barra 6, I couldn't understand why it wasn't exported to USA. A missed opportunity for both sides...........................

Easy 10 second cars. I had a BA xr6t first of the Barra turbos. Added a few bolt on's new valve springs and a stall converter and hello 10 second 1/4 mile in full weight family car....awesome engines

There's nothing wrong with a bit of healthy rivalry but after reading through some of the comments here, quite frankly I think it has become childish, pathetic and fucking embarrassing... Falcons and Commodores are (without question) uniquely Australian and the last of them are rolling off the line right now... It's our automotive heritage and it's comming to an end, all thanks to the manufacturers pursuit of financial gain... I'm saddened by this because without Ford or Holden there would be no rivalry and it's that rivalry that layed the foundation upon which our V8 supercar series was built... I'm a Ford man but I don't hate Holdens by any means... Might as well put those petty differences aside because for many of us, its never going to be the same...

I definitely wish we got these in the states. I've seen them for sale, but there's not much support. But, we do have a couple badass V8s from Ford (5.0 and 7.3), one of which will be finding its way into my Panther, so I can get my 4 door fix.
