Today's video comes from a viewer requested topic. We used Lexia Reading Core5 curriculum for each of my children last year. This video I'll share my honest review of how I feel that curriculum worked for my family.

Lastly, I have an unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ and base my entire life around His Gospel; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This channel is dedicated first to my husband who is my better half and to my mother who inspired it all.

It's meant to be one piece of ELA instruction. As a homeschooling mom who is a former teacher but before the Science of Reading became widely known, it's been a great resource for me to see the phonics progression for my younger kids. Helps me know what they need support with, and I can do that support in additional, more hands-on and engaging ways. We recently started and it's helped my middle child stay focused, as he's been struggling working one on one with me. So it's been a great break for him, and it's building his confidence in reading. My oldest is in 4th and a strong reader and strong with comprehension, but am eager to see how this may help with critical thinking and her spelling/phonics knowledge. Ideally the homeschooling parent is sitting next to the child to see firsthand where they are excellling and where they need support. Definitely going to dig into the speeding through grade levels comments you shared, I am hoping that doesn't happen for us!

Absolutely! Well said. We were in a tough season of life and I was misinformed as to the “hands off” nature of this program! So yes. Absolutely best used as one piece of a whole plan.

Thank you for this. I did end up signing up mainly because we are so busy and have tried other programs that were too gamified as you said. My kids LOVE it. I can see the cons you mentioned however I go over the units with them and have them do all of the practice worksheets that you can print out to make sure they have grasped the concepts. We also do a separate grammar and writing program (Evan Moor FTW!) A note for you in case you ever decide to use it again is that after 5th grade they can "graduate" to Lexia Power Up for Middle School.

Thank you for the review. My daughter is about to start this program through her school and thankfully it’s free. But it will be something she can do at home for extra help. Hoping it will help!

My understanding is that there is a packet of pencil and paper review sheets at the end of each level. It has been suggested that after the celebration, kids go on to the next level online, but continue to review the previous levels content on these reviews sheets. This might help you feel more connected to what they are learning.

For sure it would. I was in a tight spot time wise so was looking for a hands off curriculum. Surly this is not that. Worksheets and one on one review with the students would totally help!

It's a valuable tool but needs the educator to support the learning. Did you have access to the offline materials?

I honestly can’t recall, it’s been a while. Though I’m sure educator support would be valuable. I used it off the recommendation of another who told me it was what her kids used in the public school. It is good for a foundational study but not a stand alone.
