Interesting, I find the opposite! It's so much easier to homeschool multiple aged kids. We have used it from the beginning (since 2018), I now have a 3rd, 1st & pre. My 3rd is almost totally independent and likes teaching himself his lessons, I just check his work. This is the first year we've use all TGATB and I am loving it! We do history and science as a family, only 1 or 2 lessons a week and sometimes I'll split up those lessons. We homeschool through a charter and so my kids have to take standardized tests. They have always tested 99% in the nation. It's so good. Try their newer editions! We loved the old, but the new ones cannot be beat.

I didn’t think I would ever touch their curricula again after their math was such a flop for us. And my older daughter needed a break from their LA. It never was a good fit for my older son. BUT their revised LA courses are SO much better. I really like how they are using the booster cards to teach phonics instead of kids trying to memorize phoneme flash cards without any context. My daughter is using their new Kindergarten level and it’s going very well! I did not care for their old LA! I’m also getting a lot more confident in making a curriculum work for me.

I’ve had the most success with a DIY science curriculum. Following books from publishers just hasn’t ever stuck like I wanted it too. As for history, I build around US history and use Evan Moor History Pockets have been our biggest success.

I've tried to use it (LA and Science) a few separate times. It feels too scattered for my brain. I love the idea of it, it's so pretty. But I cannot get it to work in our homeschool.

Interesting insight. Personally I have used them for my 3 girls from preschool to level 3 for language arts and we’re up to level 5 in handwriting and I’ve completed probably half of the science units. It’s been great to use for all three of my daughters. Very open and go and my girls like that they know what to expect and lessons are very short ( but can be lengthened if wanted or needed).

I stopped using their LA because they only used their own literature. There are so many great classic books, I felt like my kids were missing out. Also, my kid was SO bored. I do really like their math though!

I only have one child and when I was researching homeschool curriculum for my daughter for last fall I found at least for the math curriculum was too lengthy and very parent heavy. Also I heard that a lesson takes at least a half hour. For me that is too long for a 5 or 6 year old especially if you want to incorporate other subjects. You can also break down a lesson into a few days but I find things like math you need to finish one lesson in one sitting. For the younger grades of course you're still going to be very much involved in teaching your child especially if they can't read yet. But I want the curriculum to be in a way where after I teach the concepts that I could just leave my daughter to do her own work.

I love how different curricula work for different families. I have 8 kids...3 in college, so 5 at home...high school down to kindergarten. We've used some TGAB LA for the past few years and I've really loved it, but we are also a very "literature heavy" family in general so I don't lean on a LA program too heavily just mainly to fill in some gaps. We've enjoyed their science and history and I'm thiiiinking about trying a year of the high school LA, but only because we've done two solid years of Memoria Press and IEW so I'm mainly switching for the variety. I've used their Math and don't love it.

I agree about the math. I don’t think my kids learned anything from it. Although my kids did really enjoy the old version with all the games but it just never stuck on one topic long enough for it to stick. But maybe it works for mathy kids? The revised math induced tears almost every day for my 3rd graders. We made it to lesson 14 and I was like this is just not going to work!

We tried using only TGTB before, but that was a nightmare. I agree that there was a lot of tracher involvement, which was hard with 2 kiddos at the time. It also took tons of time each lesson. We attempted science (older versions), but that was a flop. Same with history. It took hours and we didn't enjoy it, so we didnt finish science ir history. However, we do use their math curriculum. My oldest is in grade 5 now and he buzzes right through the lessons. He doesnt watch the videos because he just wants to get into it. My other is in 3rd grade and likes to do the games and such, so i do that with him. We did just get Maturation as well, and I'm hoping to work on that with mt almost 6th grader, along with other resources i find. I want them to know about the 🐦 and 🐝 way before i did because that was horrible and made for an awkward wedding night (LDS here too, so you probably get it!).

I started last year using their free math curriculum. I loved the prettiness; but it just cost too much for me to print. Ink can be expensive! I made the mistake of trying to print the free curriculum for Math and LA this year. It was the worst decision ever. I've easily spent more in color ink than I would have on the books. I now only print in color the things we absolutely have to, which is a bummer, but I'm just trying to hold out till we finish the books in about 8 weeks. I love the curriculum though!

I was never interested in the core subjects from them. I don't like that the teacher instructions are on their book. It's too cluttered for me. The only thing we have done is the Science Birds Unit this year because my daughter is obsessed with birds. It went okay. I only see myself doing the science units and nothing else from them. I always get weary of things everyone is flocking to. I generally go against the crowd when everyone is swaying one way, so I think I was turned off from them from the beginning.

I’ve tried their math, science, and language arts. Their science was SO boring. I have a degree in science, so I know how fun science can be… and TGTB seriously did a disservice to the science. The language arts was so scattered and my kids never retained anything. The math so far behind grade level that i dropped it when my son’s state test scores plummeted. Until then I didn’t know, but after comparing it to other curriculums, I was shocked. It is a gorgeous curriculum, and I love that it’s scripted, but I’ll never touch it again.

We’ve used them before and it wasn’t a good fit but we are revisiting next school year because starting in grade 4 it is student led. I’ll have 4th, 6th, kinder, and a toddler. I’ll need my older two more independent. I guess I’m the younger grades I expect any curriculum to be more parent led. Especially when they can’t read. Their math has been great for us so far from 4th and up. I don’t like them for k-3 math. I don’t like how quickly math facts are taught
