On this trip to Nepal, I was able to fulfill a bucket list trip, which was to take a crack at trekking to Everest Base Camp. We went at the end of May and that corresponded to the end of the climbing season. Our group of four opted to make the trip without a guide. And we had about half the time as most package trips recommend. This video documents the whole experience from flying to Lukla from Kathmandu - and eventually back to Kathmandu. If you are considering making a trip to Nepal to trek, this will give you a good idea about what you might encounter. Chomolungma (in Tibet) in the Sagarmatha National Park (Nepal)

Kerry, I’ve been watching your videos for the last few weeks. I have to say, your sense of adventure is infectious. When you take time to see the flowers and the waterfalls. Or in your other vids the frogs and taking time to point out the trails. I’m currently training for an100km and I can assure you while out training I think of your calm nature and sense of adventure and it brings more joy to my running. Thanks for putting together these videos. You’re a legend mate. Matty from South Australia - Adelaide

Having done this trek myself and talking to a helicopter rescue pilot ( who plucks people off everest and the valley leading up to it) doing this trek in 7 days is asking for trouble. To do it safely you need to (at the very least) take 2 days aclimatising on the way up to reduce the risk of developing AMS. Our Pilot suggested that even the 11 day treks are not long enough - and judging by the continuous helicopters up and down the valley lots of people get sick. As they say on Jackass - Dont try this at home kids
@andrewmacpherson706
@andrewmacpherson706 5 жыл бұрын
most of those helicopters going up are supplying base camp only, you'll find its better to take your time but most people traditionally take nine days and are forced by there lead sherpas to go at a good pace, Ive found if you hydrate well and wrap up warm.
@dcaudwell

@@teodelfuego And if not, get a porter to carry your pack. No guide needed really and it's not that hard a trek when you're packless... I saw many a grizzled grey nomad go up with the porter basically carrying man and bag

Fantastic documentary. It’s been on my bucket list since the 1990s....to do this trek. Had seriously considered training for the full climb but decided against that, years ago. This trek is still within the realm of possibility, though. Have always enjoyed endurance sports, but as I’ve gotten a lot older, things have gotten much more conservative for me. At 68, I’m still very active, outside. Thanks so much for sharing the intimate experiences and awesome footage of what it takes to do this trek....I really enjoyed it.

Courtney Pie thumbs down because trying to do this trek as fast as possible without acclimation days is very dangerous. Beautiful trek but should not be rushed without acclimation and after seeing the others turn back to reset shows the dangers. Not worth the risk to do without acclimation and should not be glamourized.

Kerry, you are an inspiration! If I was doing that same trip and all my group decided to go down, I would've than exactly what you did...push on alone! Life experiences must not sucumb to momentary weaknesses, you push through them and get the everlasting rewards. Your group was visibly not up to par, but like driven minded people that you are, and I include myself in that category, we collect those rewards and cherish them as a primary goal. It's all in the mind and in the want to do it!...You portrait that image in your videos, clearly. Kudos to you, sir. Greetings from a Portuguese.

This was really awesome to watch! You are really fit and you are such a friendly person, but in such a hurry! I made this walk in 1991, took a bus from Kathmandu to Jiri, walked to EBC, walked back to Lukla en took a (very small) plane back to Kathmandu. I think we were there for 3 weeks. It was before internet, so in Kathmandu we had to get a trekking permit etc, everything was at a slower pace i think. But i can tell by your video that you enjoyed it every second and it was beautiful to see all those places again. Thank you for sharing!

Totally agree this is an awesome video and as close as you could get to Base Camp on your computer! And yeah the route and surroundings look obvious enough to navigate by yourself if you have a good map, no need for a guide even for a first timer. The only thing you need is an excellent fitness level.

This is a good video because it shows very well both what to expect in terrain and the effect on the videographer. Also you must do radio for a living kept up a very good narration as well.

Well done. Great perspective of the sherpas, who really are the unsung hero’s of Everest. New sub here.

Albert Corrales I’m sure if he wasn’t married he wouldn’t have left that cute woman’s side. I know I wouldn’t have unless she made it clear she don’t like me. But I think she liked him. That could be from the buzz she had though a natural high of course.
