If Manchester United owners owned Vodafone that would be comparable but they don't and that's the difference. Man City owners own the actual companies they are asking to sponsor them & over inflating that sponsorship. That's absolutely nothing like the Vodafone deal.
@Redballoon99
@Redballoon99 11 күн бұрын
100% OK - so what is the purpose of a Sponor - so a company wants to associate their company (say vodafone) with your club. FIINE NOW. the company (vodafone) want to be associated for the least amount of money possible while winning the tender. Its that simple. When you put out the tender - Vodafone, or an Airline, or Apple, compete to win the sponsor with each other - so what they are willing to pay (market Value) they make their offer - Thats it - win the tender for the least amount possible SPONSOR is not Investment. Period If city didn't want to put it out for tender that is also fine - HOWEVER that means the company (an Airline) also owned by the city owner can actually have their name on the stadium - FOR FREE why would he pay anything? Unless he wants to deguise Equity for a sponsor and Deguise investment as a sponsor - AGAIN sponsor is NOT INVESTMENT. So ATP is not only fine. Its Perfectly reasonable for the Prem league to say - if you want to sponsor yourself - you cannot do so for more than the MARKET values the deal. AGAIN - the prem league is saying if you are getting an independent spnsor its fine. if its an associated sponsor then we need to make sure its correct.

There is a simple answer. The Prem can set a limit of sponsorship as a percentage of the other total earnings of the club.That links it to true earnings and can be set in the FFP (or whatever they want to call it) regulations. You can still earn a billion a week from grandads airline, but you can not spend it all on new signings and wages.JOB DONE: Move on, now about these 115 charges…

Problem there is that City would and already do artificially overinflate all their other incomes too…. Apparently they’re bigger draws for sponsorship and selling products with their name on than United, Real, Bayern, Liverpool, Barca, Juve, etc, if you look at the figures they publish 😂 Ao if they’re that brazen to try publicly pretend that is an actual fact(!) then they will continue to find ways to say they have earnt £X when they actually only earnt half that. Anyway, as you say…. Now onto those 115 charges 😋

@@samwize28Everyday that goes by I’m more and more hopeful that this is the case. The media are clearly struggling with the lack of leaks from the club and having to cling to this “review” narrative. Unfortunately that goes for the traditional media and the modern media. It would be a very worrying sign if INEOS decide to pander to the media and play into their hands by doing an announcement of anything other than he’s going or there’s a new contract, but honestly it’s odd that some people are suggesting they have to do one or the other. It gets even more mental that people deliberately say “he has one year left” and ignore the optional extension that both the club have on the current contract
@samwize28

@@CJLyn339 on one hand I get that the Utd fanbase are like a beaten dog at this point after the last 10 years, and that we need all the reassurance and ‘everything’s going to be ok’ that we can get. But at the same time it’s completely abnormal to have to clarify to the media/fanbase if your manager is staying for the following season. Ultimately, no matter who the manager is, I think we all need to accept that the next few years are going to be tough for Utd as we transition and that Ineos/Jim are doing everything in their power/skillset to do what is best for Utd (even if that is for selfish ends, I.e protecting their investment and personal legacy etc).

I'm a City fan, and my speculation is this; It depends whether you want football to be a sport, or a business competition. The Premier League is a business. The Premier Leagues formation was a wealth grab, where the founding members of the Premier League got a bigger share of the revenues from Sky TV et cetera than non-Premier League members. The old football league used to be run on a more egalitarian, sporting competitive format. Where the richest clubs to some extent subsidised the poorest clubs, to make the leagues a more sporting level playing field. This meant that clubs like Nottingham Forest could come out of the 2nd division, win the first division and win the European cup. For not only was the English league and more sportingly even league, so was Europe. The European cup was just a European wide sporting competition, not the massive profit producing Champions League we have today. The Champions League and the Premier League created super wealthy clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and others. Every year their bench was more valuable than most other teams whole team. And where Real Madrid and Barcelona would often have "Galactico" players for which was paid world-record prices. Since the Premier league Manchester United has broken the "record spend on a player record" more times than any other club in history. Manchester United would use its economic power to nobble opponents, such as Newcastle, by buying their star player for a record price, Andy Cole. Did Abramovich by Chelsea as a plaything, I'm not sure. His spending blew everybody else out of the water. But he also had a long term plan of stockpiling players throughout Europe, upon which he made money, but never played for Chelsea. Perhaps he saw a gap in the market. A lot of people thought the Sheikh had bought Manchester City as a plaything. More recently "sports washing". But the truth is, this is a BILLIONAIRE interested in diversifying his wealth production from oil, to other fields. In this case wealth production through sports ownership, not just in England, but 13 clubs throughout the world. This will be done by creating a brand through a major club, Manchester City, through the use of business best practice in every area of the club. Not just the best manager in the world, but the best in the world of physios, secretaries, CEOs, EVERYWHERE. This guy isn't motivated by image, religion, or anything else other than MAKING MONEY. This is nothing new. Harry Redknapp, I think, said a long time ago "if you look at the wage bills of any teams in the Premier league in a league table, the league table of wages virtually perfectly matches where the team will end up in the Premier League at the end of the "sporting" season. The Premier league is an ECONOMIC competition, to make the biggest profits, and through that produce the best football teams ever seen. The Premier League is already the European Super League. Throughout the league from top to bottom we have the best football athletes in the world. The Premier League is more competitive now, with the first time in its history a 3 horse race for winning the Premier league (2 within 2 weeks for 3 teams, and on the final day of the season for 2), than it's ever been. The champions league, less so. As the Premier league is economically crushing all the other European leagues. THIS is why so many of the old money clubs of Europe are desperate for the European Super League, because without that money trough they will become extinct. Look for example at Barcelona and all the other the old money clubs of Europe, they are becoming economically derelict. Show Sheikh Mansour is interested in nothing else but making money. This is one business competing with other businesses according to the rules. Competition Laws. LAW, trumps any organisation's rules in a country. So the Premier League can have any rules it wants, but if they do not comply to the law of the land, they are illegal in this country so they are null and void. City fans have been trying to explain this to other fans for years now. The old money clubs like Manchester United had a monopoly. Every year they created massive profits, every year they bought the best players, every year they won the best prize money, every year they created massive profits, every year they bought the best players, every year they won the best prize money, for 13 Premier League titles out of 18!!! Manchester United absolutely economically dominated the league, and through the economic domination dominated the league in 'sport' (well sport without a sporting chance). Teams like Leeds and Manchester City have lashed out the cash to trying catch United a couple of decades ago, and it almost broke both clubs. City have always been one of the biggest spenders in England's top flight, through which it amassed the 6th highest points tally in the history of the English top-flight. But United crushed as a business allcomers. United never had any limits on what they could spend, and nor did Arsenal Liverpool Blackburn and Chelsea. In 2021 The Premier League brought in the "Newcastle rule". A rule specifically designed to stymie Newcastle from using its newfound wealth to outcompete the old money businesses of United Liverpool and Arsenal. This is why Pep Guardiola said about the 115 charges "as Julius Caesar said there are no friends there are no enemies, there are only interests (economic)". The majority of clubs in the Premier league have got together and said "look, if we don't protect what we've got we will lose the lot, as these new billionaires run their clubs more efficiently and just blow us out of the water. So we will create this rule that stops Newcastle from financially doping the team, like United Arsenal Liverpool Blackburn and Chelsea did." Does this Premier league rule break England's business antimonopoly laws on competition? The lawyers will decide.

Irrespective of the City case, the PL is so corrupt, PSR is packaged as a way to keep the league competitive, it is the opposite, the elite clubs retain the balance of power and it is impossible to compete without selling your best players which stalls any progression and provides the other clubs with the media driven panic resulting in cut price bargains. Man Utd are in massive amounts of debt yet continue to be able to avoid any PSR issues. NUFC had the very furtherest example of a fair owner under Ashley who asset stripped the club and dismantled the academy, providing free advertising for Sports Direct and Castore deal with Sports Direct benefitted him personally and worth very little to the club. Where were the rules for fair ownership then? It is laughable.

If beating City on a one-off final to win a major trophy (his second trophy in as many years) is NOT a good enough reason to keep our current manager, i.e., if it doesn't highlight his credentials and skills in management and does NOT make up for the poor run in the league and all the other problems with the squad, which can also be laid at the door of that same manager, then what is the earthly point in addressing the structural issues with the way the football side of the club is being run? It's nonsense! Either they made the decision before the final, or they didn't, but if they didn't then what is the hold up? As this rumbles on it feels ever more likely, they will announce that Ten Hag's departure and there will be a backlash. Just how big a backlash will depend on whom they bring in. I don't think anyone will believe that this delay is really the result of a proper review of the situation and not a transparent way to mitigate the negative reaction from fans. So it had better not be Southgate after an early English exist from the Euros. If he wins it, that may stave off some but not all the outrage. But if he wins it, will he want to come tp United or take his team to the World cup...? I think Ineos are digging themselves a massive hole here. Keep the manager and you keep the fans onside. "Weathering the storm" as Ratcliffe might say, will get proper ugly. Trust is earned, NOT purchased from the Glazers.

"the premier league is brilliant" yeah while I loathe City's ownership and what they're doing, the Premier League are hoisted by their own petard here. They allowed these types of takeovers to go ahead, they allowed the Glazers to come and cripple a financially established club that could've otherwise kept City in check as a Premier League power, they allowed Roman to do his thing at Chelsea. This didn't suddenly come as a surprise to everyone, as Barney Ronay said in his column on it, you can't welcome with open arms an autocratic state ownership then be surprised when you have an unhappy/upset autocratic state that doesn't like the democratic approach to the governance of the Premier League.

It has nothing to do with the charges. Ffs. The problem is the rule changes in 2021 with sponsors by the PL. The PL cannot tell sponsors to show them their books. Its not legal. Business sponsors can sponsor who they like. Its their business no ones business but theirs. The charges are up to 2018

So the crux of it is City can’t receive any sponsorship from the Middle East because our owner is from the Middle East, but Arsenal Liverpool and Utd can have sponsorship from there, well that’s fair isn’t it? 10 clubs are owned by American owners who are trying to not only take over the premiership but have games played in the USA , they can’t bully City’s Arab owners and don’t like it, they’ve been trying to get rid of City for over 12 years and pushing the FA with all these BS charges, if people can’t see what’s going on then they really are dim.

I think that we have to remember first that a sponsoring company have to look to their own finances and will not willy nilly sponsor a club in a sum which is not financially viable and to their own detriment. The 115 finish at 2018, not 2021. (Lawton should know better). and are to do with hiding the source of sponsorships. This current arbitration is to do with declared sponsorships. This latest APT rule was a naked attempt to stymie newcastle immediately after the takeover. The 115 is legally incompatible with the arbitration. The current rules keep the existing clubs at the top and others will never be able to spend to compete. Arsenal's ticket prices are double that of City.

Man United earned their money through sporting success, which led to a commercial success. City didn't. They faked sponsors to pump money, and hand out shady deals under the table to convince people to go there, and now they have their sporting success. But it was built on cheating.
