Create a moisturizing hand salve with medicinal healing flowers that's lightly perfumed with floral essential oils. This lightly scented hand and body salve is great for eczema, dry skin, and cracked cuticles, plus it smells amazing. I've combined skin penetrating essential oils with florals for a wonderful fragrance and aroma. #essentialoils #herbalism #salve #healingharvesthomestead #heidivillegas

Heidi, this world of oils and essences is huge. Almost overwhelming but I'm realizing the abundance that the earth provides for us to utilize instead of using commercially made medicinals. I feel like this will be a long journey of understanding until I begin the actual process procedures. I actually found your site by way of the black walnut tree and I'm so glad I did. Thank you for your clear and positive teachings.

I've made medicinal salves before, but I've never used essential oils to perfume them . . . and I don't know why, lol. Guess what I'll be doing the next time I make a salve? 🧡 Thanks for the video!

Yes! They smell amazing. The more important reason to use essential oils, though is for the therapeutic actions, especially for sore muscles, aches, pains, joints, and even to enhance skin penetration and of course for skin care. I do love the oils too!

You can find a list where I buy my oils at the link, and I do make some of the common ones from herbs in my garden, like rosemary and lavender (these have a LOT of volatile oil, so it can work even with a small still to an extent---you can get a small amount of EO). Definitely easier to buy them from good companies....just scroll down this page, and you'll see the list: healingharvesthomestead.com/valuable-resources

What do you think about frankesese essential oils and do you need a carrier oil for applying it to your skin? Thank you for what you do for everyone. May the Lord keep Blessing you. Merry Christmas 🎄
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 7 ай бұрын
I love frankincense essential oil---and yes, you should use a carrier oil for all of your oils, even if they are relatively skin safe. Sensitization can happen even with benign oils over time. Also, in my experience, the essential oil, being soluble in a carrier oil, actually penetrates the skin's layers better with some dilution.

Need to ask you about the hawthorn tinture. I crushed the dehydrated berries and its been 6 weeks in 80% V. Is it time to use and what taste should I expect? Will it be alcoholic taste or sweet since they were dehydrated ? Thank you. I love your channel better than any other I've checked out. Share it to everyone. Merry Christmas
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 7 ай бұрын
Oh, thank you so much, Patricia! I appreciate those shares very very much. Your tincture is probably ready to strain, but you can leave the herbs in longer---even months. You can give it a taste now, if you like! Just pour off a bit and see how it is! The more tinctures you make of various herbs and especially numbers of times, you'll develop a really nice intuition about your tincture strengths.

How long can you let the petals stay in the infusion before removing
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 7 ай бұрын
It can vary greatly. If you want the infusion done quickly, say using the double boiler/crock pot method, you would want to remove them when you feel the infusion is ready. But often, when I'm letting the herbs infuse at room temperature for 4 to 6 weeks, I'll just leave them in longer...sometimes for a few months. I actually have a hypothesis that the plant matter helps keep the oil longer.

Hey miss Heidi just wanted to ask since you are a professional.... I know you have a disclaimer that you're not a doctor but wanted to ask your professional opinion on what herbs or tincture is good to make to regulate or help people with diabetes
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 7 ай бұрын
Hi, Diana. I'm so sorry I can't be helpful here, on social media. There are many herbs that can help with blood glucose balance, but honestly, holistic herbalists work with individuals to create protocols for your unique body. In herbalism one size doesn't fit all. This is one of the reasons I encourage people to start learning now, and to be your own first client!

I noticed you use tins. I have heard that tins should not be used for balms and salves containing essential oils. Would love your thoughts on this.
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 7 ай бұрын
I agree with that, to be honest. However, many have no choice. There is a bit of a chance that some of the aluminum may leech into the salve, but it's not enough on its own to cause problems. Our bodies need to take in large amounts of aluminum to become toxic....but if we're using aluminum pans for cooking, eating certain foods, etc., then the load is higher. I prefer stainless steel tins and try to get these whenever possible any way.

You had 5 jars of oils with 1/2 cup measurements of each. That's 2.5 cups. I think your beeswax ratio was off. You said 1/4 cup beeswax for each cup of oil. So you should have added a little more than 1/2 cup beeswax for a firmer salve. It must've set up looser? I'm sure it's still fine.
@victorialg1270
@victorialg1270 7 ай бұрын
Agreed. So she probably will put it over the double boiler with the additional beeswax. Good reason to premeasure ingredients. But it did seem to set up ok in the last picture.
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 7 ай бұрын
My general go-to ratio is 1/4 cup beeswax per cup of oil. And yes, I adjusted the beeswax for the total amount of oil I used. I used 1/2 cup and a bit. Most people don't need to make this much salve if they're just using it for themselves, and a cup of oil plus the quarter cup of beeswax is about 5 2 ounce tins....so that's already a good amount. Often, I'll cut the recipe in half: 1/2 cup infused oil to 1/8 cup of beeswax, just to not make so many salves, depending on what I'm making.
