Its crazy how hard front ensemble music really is. they make it sound and look easy from an audience perspective. But holy crap I don't have that much coordination to do all of that. Hats off to Michael Tran and all front ensembles across Drum Corps International.
@Kettie53 жыл бұрын
Yep. Obviously marching and choreography isn’t an issue for pit players, but it’s made up for with their difficult rhythms and music. There was a striking difference in how I heard the pit music in the overall performance’s recording where it wasn’t as clear, and how I heard the actual rhythms in this headcam recording.

To be a set player for the Blue Devils, or any player for that matter, you have to be a master of your instrument. It's especially competitive for people like the set drummer and timpani since they typically only take one, so you have to be the best of the best. I would say and I'm sure at least some people would agree with me that the Blue Devils is technically one of the best corps out there, if not THE best, so making the corp at all takes as much work and dedication as an olympic athlete. All of this said though, anything can be done with enough proficiency in a subject, and with enough practice anyone would have a decent chance.

In the pit, visuals are actually really important. After all you are the closest to the audience. That’s why they tend to play very extravagantly and why they do things like flip their sticks, and it’s also why they shove the sticks/shakers in the bag in time or on notes, or also to make the sounds less noticeable. Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted talk

This just healed my soul so much ... graduating high school and not being able to be in marching band, pep band, or band on general is killing me. Being in drum line was one of my favorite memories in high school 🙂

I'm in begginer band and we play simple music, but every time we play as a group, it gives me a crazy adrenaline rush, so this must be like a heart attack.
@alannamiller4745 жыл бұрын
ShadyCrescent93 keep that passion and use it. don’t be afraid to do new things. that feeling and that passion is what sets you aside from most of the other band kids. take it, expand it, and someday you can be in something like DCI.
@stevedickson47442 жыл бұрын
Every one of those kids had the same feeling since beginning band, and it kept them going thru about 20,000 hours of practices to get to that level, just as it shall for you.

The pattern is actually fairly easily, it's a lot of chromatic patterns. There a couple funky parts but once you get it the hard part is bringing it up to lightspeed

YESSS IT WAS SO GOOD!! I PLAY FIRST BASS AT MY HIGH SCHOOL, IF ONLY WE COULD DO THATTT
@sumguy12345etc6 жыл бұрын
In my high school marching band, we have 4 bass players, one of which has been in the band since day one. She, to say the very least, is the worst drummer I've ever heard play. She either dramatically rushes or dramatically drags, and can't keep a steady beat to save her life. She can't even play a clean triplet, and our newest member of the band called her out on it, and even though he has just recently joined the band and has never even toughed a drum in his life until now, he is *so much better* than her. It's almost funny how a new member is much better than someone who's been playing since *elementary* lol.
