Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, the mother of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, served with distinction as one of the most prominent leaders of her generation and was awarded the Vladimir Lenin Peace Price in 1970. She even travelled as far as China to meet with her leader, Mao Zedong in which many saw her as a communist. #HistoryVille

Lovely short documentary but my only criticism is the fact that you missed out on a very important part of her life, she was actually part of the delegation that fought for Nigeria's independence.

As an educationist, she helped found the girls preparatory school Abeokuta which became Anglican Girls' Grammar school on 14th Februaty 1955. It was transferred to the ANGLICAN MISSIONARY & later changed to Abeokuta Girls' Grammar School. She was very frequent in the school to oversee things when she was in Abeokuta in the 70s. She was an activist & when Abeokuta became a Capital in 1976 she came to adress us - the students on the Assembly ground about the state of politics in Nigeria. She was chauffeur driven in a Peugeot 404 car. May the good works continue to thrive & may God grant her eternal rest. Thank you I am Abiodun (TAIWO) Awujoola.

A highly respectable woman of valour! I had the privilege of meeting this colossus! In the company of one of her friends and our Late Grandma Adeyinka from Abeokuta. She was preparing fresh maize to cook with beans. A dutiful Grandma! RIP.

Such a leader of people, trailblazing women's champion and rights activist. She holds a place of prominence in the front seat row of the struggle to free and fight for Independence. Still not yet, but when l write, even as l am doing now, Nigeria's history, she is above the opportunists, treasury raiders, and self acclaimed bigots who think they are something.
