I got a map of the movie stars homes in the 80s. I went to Jimmy Stewarts house and he was taking out the trash.We screamed hello to him and his wife said stay where you are he will come out. Omg he was so nice posing for pictures, asking where we were from telling us to move over away from the sun so our pics will come out. He was so classy.

That’s pretty sweet. My sister had a date with Cary Grant. He was eighty and she was 22. It’s a charming story. She told her flatmates about their phone calls and then their upcoming date. Of course they thought she was insane. He (and the chauffeur) drove her home in a Rolls and she persuaded him to hump up the staircase three floors to meet her flatmates. That’s a great I told you so. She would send him a painting on his birthday over the next few years and he would call to thank her. I listened in once. No one does a better impression of Cary Grant, than Cary Grant. (Archibald Leach)

He and Gen. Doolittle were great friends. I remember in the 1980s he came to a big event honoring Gen. Doolittle in Monterey Ca. he was literally and figuratively a giant among the notables gathered there that day. Big thrill for me to see him in person like that.

LOL that was funny. Jimmy Stewart was truly one of the best both as an actor and as an honorable person. Never forget his poem on the Johnny Carson show of his dog named Bow. Even Carson cried. This man had a real heart and a kindness few show in interviews. Hats off to you Mr. Stewart.

I wrote this as a comment to someone below who dismissed Jimmy Stewart's greatness because of his political or military views. My response: "Interestingly, Jimmy Stewart served in the military from 1941-1968 and ultimately earned the rank of Major General. During WW2, he enlisted as a private and was offered non-combat or morale roles due to his stature as a Hollywood actor. However, Stewart chose to pursue flying with the US Army Air Corp. Throughout training and even while serving in the theater of war, he would spend his time off motivating troops. He served as a bomber pilot and often volunteered for vital bombing raids deep within Nazi territory and often under heavy fire. For his service, he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Cross medals, the Air Medal (with three leaves) and the French awarded him the Croix de Guerre as well as 12 other medals and commendations. In his career, Stewart served in the Army Air Corp and then the U.S. Air Force Reserve and participated in WW2, Korea and Vietnam. In Vietnam, he didn't want anyone to publicize his service early in the war (when it was still popular) because he didn't want it to seem like a publicity stunt. During his years in active service, Stewart flew everything from small planes and jets to bombers like the B-47 and B-52 Stratofortress. People can question whether or not he was a "great" actor. Most people agree that he was great (he was nominated for six Academy Awards for Best Actor and was awarded two). Stewart was the leading actor in five films listed in the American Film Institute's top 100 films. In fact, Stewart is the most represented actor in the AFI's Top Ten -- starring in six films in four different genres. That said: No one can question whether or not he was a great man. "

Yes, his family had a very long tradition of fighting for this country. I believe all the way back to the Revolution. One of his boys was killed in Vietnam, too. For a man to be such a hero on and off the screen is something we, I fear, shall not see again. (Jimmy made it to Brigadier General)

I got to meet him when I was a volunteer at the US Air Force Museum. He came to participate in an 8th Air Force Reunion. Such a gentleman, who was very grateful that people liked his work.

Married and totally in love with the same woman for about 50 years, served with distinction in WWII and the reserve in Vietnam. Highest ranking person in Hollywood serving first in the US Army and then in the Air Force. A true and loyal friend to people like John Wayne and came out of retirement to make 'The Shootist' even though he couldn’t hear a word. Made some of the greatest films ever, my personal favourite being The Glen Miller Story with June Allyson. A man all Americans should be proud of if he was one of ours he would at the very least have been knighted and probably would have been made a lord. Most importantly of all… …he didn’t shoot Liberty Valance.

Jimmy is a great person, He used to come up to Cross Forks Pennsylvania to fish and relax. He loved it there because nobody star gazed him for pictures and autographs, He was just another person there. I had a cabin there and would see him often. Those were the good old days and when he passed away I missed him a lot.

Jimmy Stewart has a very special place in my heart. I met him in New York City at the stage door after seeing him perform in 'Harvey' I handed him my playbill and asked for his autograph. He took the playbill and my hand. He looked at me with his cute grin and wouldn't let my hand go. He stood there holding my hand for over a half hour, holding my hand. It was a night and an experience I will never forget. I love you Mr. Stewart, wherever you are. Thank you for that special time.

+Harold Steffee Also I believe he adopted her two sons from her previous marriage and raised them as his own, as well as them going on to have twin daughters together. I think one of the boys was later killed in the Vietnam war.

Jimmy Stewart was not a comedian. He was actor that was also a teller of stories. He was not slapstick or over-the-top. He was also a national hero. Mr. Stewart was a highly decorated bomber pilot in WWII. He remained in the U-S. Air Force Reserve after the war and retired as a Major General. During the war he received two Distinguished Flying Crosses and became a combat wing commander flying B-17s and B-24s. After the warn he became a B-52 pilot and commanded a reserve wing. He was also an Academy Award winner. Quite a life for a small town boy.

Jimmy Stewart is one of those lovely people we all find when we have grown up to a certain degree. I have loved his films since childhood when I discovered Cagney too. In those days there were only a couple of channels on TV and Sunday afternoon viewing consisted of a film. I am only 50yrs old but the world has changed so much since my childhood but classic films have remained classic films. Health, Wealth and Love to you all.

I admire this good heart of our late actor Jimmy Stewart. He was deacon of Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church where I became a member. His spirit and sense of class makes him incredibly reputable, remembered and very much so a role model. Best to his family always. Tyler Lord Hamilton

Doesn’t feel like Christmas if I don’t see “It’s a Wonderful Life”. I asked my local independent movie theater a couple years ago to play it and they did. Played it again this year. Maybe it will be a tradition! It’s even better on the big screen!

Run this joke on TV today and the audience would be left scratching their heads. Unless it's vulgar, slapstick, brash or obvious, nobody sees nuance, puns or reversals as humorous. Comedy today is a Kardashian taking a selfie or a comedians talking about their dicks or vaginas. Western Civilization is in decline.

Jimmy Stewart was THE American actor. Comedy, drama, tv,westerns, movies, good guy, bad guy( watch him in The Thin Man ); he could do it all. I JUST watched Rear Window and was amazed how he could act by just using his expressions.My favorite is The Mortal Storm. A timely lesson for us all. Sure miss him...

Jimmy Stewart was one of my favorite actors! He can really tell a good story! I watch a lot of westerns today and always love it when he and John Wayne and a few of the good old guys films are playing! Dale Robertson is another one I never saw when he was live, but love his "Tales of Wells Fargo" and other things I see him in. Same with Lee J. Cob or Joel McCrea, I didn't even know who McCrea was until recently but I watch the Western channel a lot so he's bound to turn up on it!

Jimmy was one of the Best fellows in the whole world a Gentle Man with Great Humor. i met him once in Vagus so funny he was sitting at the pool i think every one knows he was a big advocate for the Elephants it turns out he was waiting for Johnny Carson to be on his Show for Awareness for the plite of the Elephants he waited a long time for Johnny he was still waiting when i left but later i saw him on the Tonite show he & Johnny were Friends......

Chris, I didn't even know he did all that in his military career. I still loved him as an actor and I always could "sense" that in his personal life yes he was a great man and good in his heart and he was honorable and warm. He's also one of these people that we've never heard any dirt on from the godforsaken press either.

Here's another old one. Funnier now that I'm 70. A little boy is sitting on the porch with his grampa. The little boy says "Grampa, can you make a noise like a frog?"
