Ronald Reagan was a master of using humor to connect with people and convey messages. His ability to self-deprecate, tell jokes, and use anecdotes made him a popular and effective communicator. Reagan's humor was often disarming, allowing him to make serious points in a lighthearted way. He also used humor to defuse tense situations and to build rapport with his audience.
Reagan's sense of humor was shaped by his years as a Hollywood actor and radio broadcaster. He was known for his quick wit and his ability to tell a good story. He often used humor in his speeches and public appearances, and he was always willing to poke fun at himself.
One of Reagan's most famous jokes was about his age. During a 1984 debate with Walter Mondale, Mondale said that Reagan was too old to be president. Reagan responded by saying, "I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and vigor." The audience laughed, and Reagan had turned Mondale's attack into a joke.
Reagan also used humor to deflect criticism. When he was accused of being out of touch with the common people, he would tell stories about his childhood in Iowa and Illinois. He would also joke about his own mistakes, such as the time he fell asleep during a cabinet meeting.
Reagan's humor was not always without controversy. Some people accused him of using humor to trivialize serious issues. Others said that he was too quick to joke about sensitive topics. However, there is no doubt that Reagan's humor was one of his most effective tools as a communicator. It helped him to connect with people from all walks of life and to make his message more memorable.

The Great Communicator. A man who truly cared enough to answer all questions, address all topics of concern, plus share the gift of laughter and attempt to make everyone's day a little better. The press, journalists, democrat & republican politicians, foreign diplomats, and especially the common people whom he never considered himself above, all felt relaxed and respected.

@@user-wm3bf7pi3u So, I see I hit a nerve with someone who is a product of our left wing education (indoctrination) system or someone who is old enough to remember how wonderful the 1980’s (after the early 1980’s recession that was largely the product of the late Nixon through the early Carter years were). And I give Carter more of a break than most because he did start the military buildup that was necessary. In addition, he knew at least a little bit about economics (unlike the clown Ted Kennedy) and realized if you expand the government endlessly and start idiotic “social programs” you will need to pay for it and you cannot just print money (like the moronic administration we have now I suspect you’re a fan of) or you will have massive inflation. That is precisely what we had by the Carter years. Carter is to blame for some of that (also to be fair). So do us all a favor and learn some actual fact based history and some economics. Voting should not be a “popularity contest” because all our fates rely on it. I am not so much interested in rhetoric as I am results. Therefore, I am an ex-democrat. Studying economics (and not the economics of Paul Krugman with his awful track record) is the best antidote to the modern Democratic Party. Nonetheless, I will let you get back to being a low information voter or a brainwashed millenilal.

@iknowuare4716
@iknowuare4716 3 ай бұрын
@@JP-vs1ys I have an old fashioned way of judging presidents - RESULTS. Trump presided over a very good economy, low inflation, and a stable foreign policy scene including getting us involved in NO new conflicts. That is unlike 👎 “some” people. You are probably someone who believes RussiaGate, that paper ballots are antiquated, an open border is a good idea, and any ideas that “sounds” good does good (which is nonsense). I wish there was a way to stop economically ignorant, low information voters from voting. Do us all a favor and do not vote based on your damn “feelings” because national elections should not be popularity contests but sound policy. I don’t give a flying rat’s a** about “mean” tweets or rhetoric. I care about results. You know what made me a former Democrat - studying economics and the history of certain policies. DO THE SAME and be intellectually honest. It’s quite liberating. The real threat to democracy (not to mention this nation’s welfare) are misinformed or uninformed people voting their “feelings” and for whatever “sounds” good whether or not it really does good. While people such as this are the real “joke”, they aren’t funny. The success and prosperity of the nation is on the line.

More than any president in history, with the exception of FDR and Wilson, who were both dealing with world wars during their presidency’s. You also forgot to mention how he started the systematic raping of the Social Security system? Or how about the fact that during his presidency interest rates, reached the highest level they have ever been. Then there’s his supply side economics that did nothing, but make the wealthy more wealthy and broke the back of the middle class and working poor. Then let us not forget how he closed down all the public mental health clinics, chasing the mentally ill out into the streets, greatly adding to The homeless situation that we still deal with today. And of course, you can forget how he completely ignored the AIDS crisis for five years because as he put it “ it only affects homos” And certainly not last, nor certainly not least, let’s not forget the whole Iran/contra shuffle that happened right under his nose proving one of two things. He was either involved or so oblivious to what his staff was doing that it was shameful. You should watch his farewell address. He left a stark warning, which warned about exactly what the republican party is doing today. But, the will to self-educate and better understand what is actually happening in the country is a rare attribute. His brand of republicanism and the brand of Republicans today couldn't be further from each other.

@kevinberniebarron7548 - So true. I grew up in the '80s. I remembered the Iranian hostages crisis. When President Reagan got elected, the next days the hostages were released. We need definitely someone like President Reagan in the White House now. Unlike Joey Biden who is the laughing stocks of the world and can not even read from a teleprompter. How sad? Joe does not know when to quit. Joe lied all his life and spent his whole career in politics.
