It's just one of the warm ups. Every gym has something. We use to play some form of dodge ball at the first gym I ever went to. Or other ball oriented games, involving dodging, catching and throwing. It's to get you to warm your body up, engage the body/hand eye connection. Needing to do many things at once with ones body is one of the most difficult things to train. It's also to set fun playful mood/interaction between teammates. There is a lot to be found when you can connect with the playful side of yourself. Especially when it comes to conditioning ones mind into a creative/free/flow mentality. There's actually a great deal of merit and even science to back up why doing something like this is of benefit. Now days you can buy strobe glasses that limit visual information. Basically cutting out frames you'd usually see. It's been proven to be able to improve hand eye coordination, cognitive skills and perceptual performance. It's used in many sports. It helps you train yourself to move, react etc and just GO even with limited information. Overtime you build better instincts. And in a fight, timing and being able to react, move and then go is everything. And If you've ever trained to do anything over a long period of time, you have to learn to take active breaks, have fun etc. Or you will burn out for one, two development bad habits and not even realize it. Even if you're training every day and going hard. You will settle in and become complacent. Expand this across an entire team, day after day. My point is, this small thing is just one simple game that team mates can play and it have many potentially profound benefits. Just to play as you did as a kid is good for the soul and team building. If you let yourself go there. There are times I've seen groups of people laughing, talking crap and just having fun trying to hit or not be hit with a ball. Again, the point is that it may look dumb on the surface if you judge this as it seems they have. But the reality is that there are many reasons why this won't directly help you in a fight. But what it does help you with are the kinds of things that will directly help you. Even if it's just to warm up, even if it's a bit of fun, those things are informing and effecting all your other training. I mean I get the troll and it is humorous. But at the same time, I find it funny when someone trolls someone over something like this, because they don't get it. They watched this and likely just assume it's stupid if you think this is going to help you in regards to fighting. But what's even more stupid is if you were to stupid enough to think that they thought it was going to help them in that way and that it was why they are doing it. When the reality is it's a warm up that is completely outside of that. And that there are numerous ancillary reasons why you might do something like this. Everything we do or don't do, we are programming ourselves and at the same time each other. It's not about dodging a ball to get better at dodging a punch etc. And it's pretty stupid if you think that. Having said all that. I'm a big fan of Alex, as well as Israel, as athletes etc. And I wish Alex would put himself out there more and show the human being side of himself. Show his personality etc. Even if you're purely doing this sport to make your way in life. The more people that can connect with you, means more money and opportunity for you.
