The hidden villagers at the front only became an advantage because he did a great job pressuring red. Blue only ever had 12 on wood, which was a major disadvantage. Blue collected fewer resources and was falling behind in vills for much of the game. I was stunned blue one. I thought it was gonna be a quick gg going the other way. 11

The upcoming Master of the Huns 2024 will use an Arabia map which is similar to the old AoC Arabia. Not a big tournament, but should have some more improvisation.

Good that this was Empire Wars, not a normal dark age start where Uzzi would first have to find the wood line.

asymmetric maps might be actually a fun concept to add to the game, if each player starts with a unique map advantage and disadvantage as in this case. Maybe one player has extra stone while the other has extra gold, or one player has more berries while the other has better wood, as long as the balance is worked out well it might lead to a lot of fun and interesting moments like this.

This game is nature vs nurture argument demostration. Uzzi started out with nothing and Hallis inherited a fortune. In the end, blue learnt from experience that red couldn't have had with his wealth.

I think if this were RM it might be different because there's more time to scout in dark age. If Hallis ever say Uzzi's whole base he'd have to wonder at some point where the hell he's getting would from. But if you notice Hallis never saw Uzzi's whole home base. It'd be easy to imagine woodlines in the darkness. Cause that's what you'd expect. Maybe there'd be no time in such a messy game but I have to imagine there'd be a point Hallis would send a scout to all the woodlines. He never saw the enemies whole base and realized he has no wood but he's still making archers. In a RM maybe he'd have that realization but empire wars is different. Also they were always very busy. I realize it's hard to think logically like that in a messy game but these guys are some of the best in the world.

a good display of the difference between good players and bad players, Uzzi saw there was no wood near the starting area and went to go find some elsewhere, I can't find wood near starting area I fard, shid and cry.

man, if I was red and went with my scout trying to scout blue and saw his base, saw gold, stone, farms but no wood anywhere near, I would serious ask if he wanted to just restart for a new seed. it's even scary that blue didn't resign after seeing he had no wood.

So if there were some advantage to the woodless side it'd be close to a (bad) idea I had. An intentionally asymmetrical map. One side is more open but the side that's easily wall-able has some other downside to compensate. The reason I think it's a bad idea is that I don't think you could balance it. One side is probably going to be better no matter what advantage you give to the open side of the map. Give the open side more total resources and the open side is probably better. Slower gathering resources for the closed side (like berries replacing hunt)? I'm not even sure.

The advantage was, it wasn't scouted. Without those trees, Blue couldn't wall in his main base. All those miners were vulnerable to knight raids. Now, asymetrical maps might be okay in certain game modes and team games... but the one resource you take away (or limit) will have a huge impact on their ability to produce units. If you limit food... there goes vill production. If you limit wood, there goes long term vill production as that wood is going to be spent on units, not extra TCs. If the map has water, limiting either wood and gold will result in very easy wins, unless the person with limited resources starts with an advantage that negates their weakness... but then that could lead to other problems ... All in all, it's a bad idea to have asymetrical maps. That doesn't mean the neutral resources can't be lopsided, but the player's starting resources must be near equal for the players to have a fair chance.

AUTO Farm is okay but needs improving it's not even that fast when you try it in game it's just placeses farms around a mill more accurately but only for 1 mill in early game it's faster and better to just place the farm for 1 or 2 villagers bcs you have to click again to farms or mill bcs of shift queing

Well, personally I actually prefer the shorter (like 20-ish minutes) videos. Cause usually I don't wanna spend an hour or more watching an AoE game. Maybe I'm not be your average viewer... I don't know. Just wanted to mention it.

I bet you didnt cry as much when unit queues, shift queuing and auto reseed came out. probably think 200 pop is bad for the game too god forbid we free up some mental resources by making farm dumping take a couple fewer seconds games clearly ruined now

@@wayne9287 No, but even the top level players cannot do everything that they'd like to be able to do in the game because we literally cannot manage it as humans. When a proper AI ever finds its way to AoE2 you're going to see how insane "perfect" play looks like. Its not like Starcraft where resources are 99% automated and set and forget and all you have to do is focus on the minimap, scouting and insane army micro. Most people in AoE2 are stuck at 600-800 elo and they cant even manage to make villagers consistently. So giving them a little helping hand to enjoy the game a bit more doesnt hurt. For top level players, wow they get to save maybe 20 seconds TOPS per game (assuming theres a bunch of cockroaching going on and its a raid heavy game). So gamebreaking for them and clearly very bad for the game. If you've ever had a friend try the game and watch them be overwhelmed by literally everything, you'll understand how important this is for basically all players under ~1200. Placing farms isnt skillfull, it isnt fun, its tedious busy work that will result in them overextending with their early feudal units (M@A or archer/spears) usually into a tc because thats when the transition hits. The argument is bad and dishonest because we damn well know he wouldn't be so upset about the other QoL changes that happened in history because he never played at that point. No one was stupid enough to argue that unit queues and re-seeding farms and especially the pop cap "ruined the game" and lessened the skill involved. No, people were just happy to have tedious BS removed so they could actually focus on strategy, adapting and reacting to the game.
