Not that my opinion one way or another should in any way change your mind. At the very least, you got me to watch it again

Well, Bruce can't be right about everything. It is definitely a Christmas movie. 1. The basic narrative situation of Die Hard is a man returning to his family for Christmas. 2. It's set at Christmas Eve. Furthermore, it takes place during a holiday office party. 3. It has Christmas music. The “Die Hard” soundtrack is loaded with Christmas songs. 4. John’s wife, Holly, has a Christmasy name. 5. Santa Claus makes an appearance. 6. It has dozens of Christmas references. 7. It has a Grinch. (Hans Gruber) 8. Hans Gruber explicitly invokes the Christmas spirit: “It’s Christmas, Theo, it’s a time for miracles.” 9. The screenwriter, Stephen E. de Souza, said it is. 10. Director John McTiernan confirmed is is. ("We hadn't intended it to be a Christmas movie," the director told the AFI, "but the joy that came from it is what turned it into a Christmas movie.") 11. One of the greatest Christmas movies ever! I watched a documentary on this movie and it was laughed at from the beginning because of Bruce Willis. He was known for romances and goofy commercials back then & no one thought he would make a good tough guy. Instead he ended up being one of the baddest action stars ever.

Exactly. Younger people may not realize that Bruce Willis started his career doing light comedy/romance. Personally, before Die Hard I knew him from Moonlighting, alongside Cybill Shepherd.

I remember seeing an article after this movie came out -- It's exactly his "everyman" persona that made this movie a hit. Before this, the heros were "larger than life" guys that everyone KNEW were going to SAVE THE DAY and TAKE THE BAD GUYS OUT, but because Bruce wasn't the incredibly tall and overly-muscled type, there were fears that the bad guys might actually win ... so when Bruce made it out alive, most "average" men thought, "huh, he's kinda like me ... I could do that".

A couple weeks ago, the Orleans Hotel in Vegas brought "Die Hard" back to the big screen. Surprisingly, there were only about 7 of us in the entire theatre. Sad turnout...but I still felt like a kid seein' it for the first time! Such an iconic film.

Fun fact: Here in Brazil, Die Hard was called "Duro de Matar" which means tough/hard to kill! That definitely describes John Mcclane if you ask me, I feel like the title works!

One correction. The film was launched in Finland with the title "Die Hard - vain kuolleen ruumiini yli". Direct translation into English: "Die Hard - only over my dead body". In any case, Alan Rickman was perfect in his role and apparently he was a very nice person as well.

I always thought that had they not killed off Alan in Die Hard. They could have made at least one more Die Hard with him as the Baddie and made even more money. They could have arranged for just him to escape in the first movie. People loved him as the bad guy. They did the same to him in Robin Hood. Like Die Hard, Alan brought so much to the Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie as the bad guy. That had they not had him those movies would NOT have been as successful. Now unfortunately he's gone and I do miss seeing him in movies. I often thought also that when they had the bad guy character in Die Hard 3. They could have brought Alan back as the bad guy. Claiming he was the identical twin of Alan's character from the first Die Hard. Die Hard has always been one of my most favorite movies.

It's A Wonderful Life was released January 7th and it's not about Christmas at all until the very end. Die Hard plays two Christmas songs (one over the closing credits) it chimes Christmas bells in the background throughout, it's set on Christmas eve, has a Christmas party, is about a guy flying in to see his family for Christmas, puts a santa hat on the dead terrorist with ho ho ho in blood on his shirt, mentions getting invited to the Christmas party to Hans much later in the film, tapes his gun on his back with Christmas tape, smiles at a Santa Claus, the limo driver mentions Christmas and new years at the end, Hans says it's Christmas it's the time for miracles, when the vault opens the computer guy says Merry Christmas and with all of that the underlying story is appreciating family over himself, just like Home Alone and It's A Wonderful Life. Oh and like Kevin Mcalister, he's all alone fighting bad guys. The internet wasn't really common until 1999 or 2000, and even then most didn't have desktops in their houses and constantly reading blogs until further into the new century. However, the reason in 07 he chose to make the claim was because people had been word of mouth saying they watch die hard at Christmas for years

In total agreement with you. You have so many people saying it's a Christmas movie because they watch it every Christmas. OK, fine, but other movies are shown on Christmas Day that have nothing to do with Christmas. Yes, I enjoy watching the movie on Christmas, but I also enjoy it just as much watching it in July, which to me, for most people, should be the tie-breaker if you have any doubts. To add to your point about a relative lack of Christmas songs, even the mini-orchestra playing at the "Christmas" party is not playing constant Christmas music.

@@quieroricardo I don´t know why you understand his German but his German is wrong "Schieß dem Fenster" makes no sense but you can understand the meaning of it. Right is hre "Schieß auf die Fenster" or "Zerschieß die Fenster" --> "Shoot the Glass" only the German or Austrian Actors speaks correct German, of course..oh and the one who says "Los mach schnell" when McClane destroys the Window to throw the Body on Al´s Car

Ah, the good old "Mission Skyscraper" as it was called in Norway. They decided to keep "Die Hard" for the later movies. If not we'd probably have "Mission Airport", "Mission Big City" etc. Though, the third movie was actually called "Die Hard In New York" in Norway, so they didn't manage to completely stay away from renaming.

For future record and for those curious… in Portugal… the movie was called: “Assalto ao aranha céus “. Roughly translated to english as: “The skyscraper robbery “ or “The skyscraper’s attack” 😊

In Czech and Slovak its called : "Smrtonosná past"/"Smrtonosná pasca" witch translates as "A deadly trap" or "Deadly trap" (for the series its just + a number on the end no word plays like in english)

It's a summer movie to me. Remember seeing it at the movies while vacationing in Ocean City Md. for the first time. It was fresh in the theaters then.

Some of the American audience DID notice that the German they were speaking was bullshit. My Grandmother was raised in Germany until she was 11, they immigrated to the states in 1933. Anyway, she rented this movie for us when it first came out and she actually laughed during one scene and said "they aren't saying anything at all- that isn't German"!! If you don't believe me, you can ask her, she is still alive today! Grandma turns 100 on Dec 14th!

Uh I guess they dubbed or were corrected, because the in the short clip they show, the dialog is definitely German! The one guy says: " hey brother" the other says "wait". And then says: "no, no, wait a minute".
