About:
Neil deGrasse Tyson born on October 5, 1958) is an American astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and science communicator. Since 1996, he has been the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City. The center is part of the American Museum of Natural History, where Tyson founded the Department of Astrophysics in 1997 and has been a research associate in the department since 2003.
Born and raised in New York City, Tyson became interested in astronomy at the age of nine after a visit to the Hayden Planetarium. After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, where he was editor-in-chief of the Physical Science Journal, he completed a bachelor's degree in physics at Harvard University in 1980. After receiving a master's degree in astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin in 1983, he earned his master's (1989) and doctorate (1991) in astrophysics at Columbia University. For the next three years, he was a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University. In 1994 he joined the Hayden Planetarium as a staff scientist and the Princeton faculty as a visiting research scientist and lecturer. In 1996, he became director of the planetarium and oversaw its $210-million reconstruction project, which was completed in 2000.
From 1995 to 2005, Tyson wrote monthly essays in the "Universe" column for Natural History magazine, some of which were published in his book Death by Black Hole (2007). During the same period, he wrote a monthly column in Star Date magazine, answering questions about the universe under the pen name "Merlin". Material from the column appeared in his books Merlin's Tour of the Universe (1998) and Just Visiting This Planet (1998). Tyson served on a 2001 government commission on the future of the U.S. aerospace industry, and on the 2004 Moon, Mars and Beyond commission. He was awarded the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal in the same year. From 2006 to 2011, he hosted the television show NOVA ScienceNow on PBS. Since 2009, Tyson hosted the weekly podcast StarTalk. A spin-off, also called StarTalk, began airing on National Geographic in 2015. In 2014, he hosted the television series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, a successor to Carl Sagan's 1980 series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.[1] The U.S. National Academy of Sciences awarded Tyson the Public Welfare Medal in 2015 for his "extraordinary role in exciting the public about the wonders of science"

I completely understand the point Neil was making in the first clip. But I'd respectfully have to disagree that an a more intelligent life form wouldn't be interested in humans. (Look at it like this, if we found a planet with with life forms that a stupider than us, but still slightly intelligent, I believe we would love to explore it's ins and outs even if they are only as smart as apes)

As a substitute teacher, I had to show one of Neil's videos to a bunch of middle schoolers. The topic? How life was seeded on earth by asteroids. This is the 'science' that leads kids to suicide. Think about: what is life if we are just, in words of atheist comedian George Carlin, "Failed mutations." In fact, Carlin thinks the planet would be better off without people on it. In that same middle school, I found a book called, 'The Darwin Awards.' Kids are actually reading this and it is child abuse. The book details the gruesome deaths of 'stupid' people, people that society is better without! The first chapter was about a woman walking too many dogs. They pulled her into a tree, killing her. The 'joke'? "I guess she was barking up the wrong tree!" Hardee har har. Do people have a brain anymore? Kids read this book and think, "You know, this world would be better off without (mom, dad, 'friend', etc.) in it!" Now, kids are going into their schools and blowing their classmates away. Of course, the evolutionists will swear that their atheistic, situational morality has nothing whatsoever with the amorality of the public schools. The sad tragedy for atheists is that, unless they make things right with God, they will live in their own insanity for all eternity. Do people create their own morals? The torturer in hell will! In fact, Jesus said that those in hell will be tortured. It is not hard to believe, is it? God is justice and take away our courts, police and jails (no matter how imperfect), and life becomes chaos. Yet, Christ died on a Cross so that we can know Him. By the blood of Christ, we can be fit for paradise, where there are no liars or thieves and the weather is always perfect. I hope you get to know Christ. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
@chanmax2
@chanmax2 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was raised in an atheist family, I always was interested in science, and curiously I and all the atheist I know, didn't committed suicide when discovered that life wasn't created by an imaginary being in the sky in 6 days several thousands years ago, despite all scientific evidences for centuries, a god who's torturing and killing life since the beginning of times, who created Hitler and let him and his friends slaughtered 10 millions people and build Auschwitz, who let Vatican protect pedophiles for decades, men who are supposed to represent him on earth...to know god did it, let it happen, that is something to drive people to suicide. Morality, principles, existed way before organized religions, so please get of your high horse...
@kenshiloh
@kenshiloh Жыл бұрын
@@chanmax2 Was I 'on my high horse'? I was just making the statement that, if you are an atheist, you have no basis for morality. For example, did people simply evolve differently than other life forms? Is, as Darwin maintains, all life is related? Then people are 'nothing special'! As atheist comedian George Carlin said, planet earth would be better off without people on it! Yet, I can point to a source of morality, the Bible, and say that God, the Creator, has made people in His own image, that it is wrong to slaughter people. Yet, what can you say to someone who would kill humans? The best you have is that you 'prefer' that they do not kill. It is like your personal preference, like vanilla versus chocolate ice cream. No good. No evil. That is the world you have chosen. Moreover, you say that God should not allow evil such as Hitler and Roman Catholicism? What if God judged evil starting with you? How would you do if you stood before Him today? You criticized God for allowing evil in the world, yet have you lied, stolen, or used God's Name in disrespect? If so, then you should rightly be judged a lying thief and blasphemer. Unfit for the paradise, which is the restoration of all things, you would instead be rightly cast outside with other lying thieves. Do you think God tortures people in hell? Imagine being locked in a cell with the most sadistic thugs on the planet. Enjoying life now? Yet, hell is even worse! You are the one rejecting the morality of God. Hell is torment forever, but that is not God's fault. Even millionaires take their own lives, and that is with plenty of luxury and security. Yet, in hell, you won't have the courts, the jails, and the police to protect you. You will be at the mercy of sadistic brutes. Who knows? Maybe the fires of hell are a mercy of God so that your tormentors will be too lethargic to torture you. You cannot say that hell does not exist as there are people around the world being tortured as you read this. This world is simply a taste of hell! Yet, in hell the gloves come off! If you believe the big bang and Darwin are 'science,' you are missing life itself. You are playing the fool. Yet, Christ died on a Cross so that you may know Him. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

@kenshiloh
@kenshiloh Жыл бұрын
@@jordanbelfort4196 Thanks for writing. You claim that morality does not come from Christ. Are you an authority on morality? For example, have you ever told a lie or stolen anything? If so, then of what value are the moral posturings of a known liar or the sermons on goodness by a thief? No, you are in the same predicament as the rest of us! Be careful! Jesus said, "Because you say, 'I see,' therefore your blindness remains." Physical blindness would be difficult, but spiritual blindness is the worst. If left unchecked, it leads into eternity. Many scoff at hell, but they are in grave error. Hell is real and it is full of people who make their own laws, their own rules. It is full of 'moral authorities.' Jesus said that those in hell will be in the hands of 'torturers.' Why not? Just like you, these sadists make their own rules! What I am trying to do is to spare you an eternity of regret and torment. If you will humble yourself, admit that you know nothing, then God will fill you with knowledge. He died on a Cross so that you might know Him. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
