Coco is a love letter to Mexican culture and elderly people suffering from senile dementia. Such a beautiful movie.

My favorite thing about this movie is how 'Remember Me' is sung so many times, and each time with different context and meaning. To De La Cruz it is all about him, it's a fast paced song about his ego, but when we see the memory of Hector singing it to Coco, it's a slow melodic song about a father saying goodbye and then the ending with Miguel singing it, it takes a whole new meaning again, for a great grandmother to recall her father in her old age...it's simply beautiful, that the same song and lyrics can mean different things.

The biggest plot twist is that pepita was a little cat 😂. Btw, Dante is not dead. Animals are spirit guides, they are able to see the spirits, doesn't necessarily mean they're dead ❤

39:42 - What I love about this moment is that Coco says "Elena? What's wrong mija?" Earlier in the movie she didn't recognize her daughter. 😭

Not a surprised at all that this won the Academy Award for Animated Feature. The animation, music, story and the respect for the Mexican culture is so amazing.

The most precious thing to me is seeing dead mama coco still look her age in the afterlife and yet her father still picks her up the same way he would his daughter. Love it

This movie is literally everything to me. Not long after my mother passed away in 2018, I met my beautiful mexican wife. We watched this for the first time together, and I couldn't help but cry my eyes out, but what she did was truly breathtaking for me. She held me in her arms and said she wanted to honour my mum on her ofrenda. Me and Maria are still going as strong as ever in our relationship. She is my whole universe and I am blessed every single day I get to wake beside her. When I proposed to her I played the song at the end of the movie "proud corazón" and sang it to her in Spanish. She is my proud heart.

The moment you realize "Remember me" was a song written for a daughter, just for a sake he won't be forgotten by her... Damn, it hits real hard.

My best friend of 25 years, Evi, lives in Guanajuato, the city Pixar used as their reference for the City of the Dead. It's referenced down to specific alleyways, like the one where Imelda first sings to Miguel. When my grandmother was still alive, she basically adopted Evi as an unofficial grandchild. Evi is a chocoholic, so my grandmother would send her a nice card and expensive box of chocolates for her birthday every year. This went on for six years until she passed away in 2005. After my grandmother passed away, Evi added her photo to her family's ofrenda. It's still there to this day, nearly 20 years later. Needless to say this movie holds a very special place in my heart. 💜

I guess you have missed that part... when Imelda sees Hector, she says "How many times must I turn you away?!" This means that Hector has tried to make amends with Imelda, whe she died and got to the land of the dead. But she wouldn't listen. Not only did Coco give back the piece of the photo, the moment she started talking about her dad, it means she was passing down stories, which was crucial for Hector's survival even if his photo could not be returned/restored. The photo only gave the right to pass the bridge. I also like the contrast between de la cruz's version of Remember me, which is just for show, while Hector's was quiet, sensual, private, gentle ❤

This move came out a month after my great grandma passed away from ovarian cancer. 7 years later and I still cant watch this movie without crying. It holds such a specifically special place in my heart.

Fun Fact: There's a Goth kid that appears briefly in Turning Red, and he's wearing a band t-shirt. It's the metal band that plays at the music competition in this movie

the scenes that made me cry the most were when Hector sings "Remember Me" and when Miguel sings it to Coco at the end, I still can't watch those scenes without getting teary eyed

We all sobbed during this movie, none harder than in the sequence when we hear REMEMBER ME.

I'm latino and raised by my grandma. It's insanely common for the matriarch of the family to hold the family together. My grandmother was raised very poor,( and her grandmother had been a slave), and when she was very little her sister dropped her, and they couldn't afford the right doctors so her legs didn't heal right and she had a very large limp all her life. When she was about 6 years old, her mom (a seamstress/maid) was making a dress for her rich boss's daughter and she bought some scraps to also make my grandma one too. It was the "it" dress for girls that year, and my grandma was all happy limping around the house with it. The boss asked his daughter to bring her own dress to him, and then in front of my grandma and her mom he ripped his daughter's dress and said, "My daughter isn't going to dress like a servant's daughter". My grandma said that was when she decided her life wouldn't end there, being a maid. So she asked the village butcher to help her write a letter to the president of Brazil, and in it she asked if he could pay for her education, one day she would pay him back. And surprisingly enough, he did! She walked to the bus stop even little, took a long ride, walked miles and went to school every day. She spent all night memorizing the books to be in top of the class. And eventually she graduated, got her higher education, and opened up her own school for the needy and girls, and was the principal of a huge school in our town. (And she wrote the President a check, with interest!). She always said that though her body wasn't perfect, her mind was her one thing she had to even the odds. So when she was older, and got a diagnosis for Alzheimer's, it was heartbreaking for the family to see her slowly lose her memory. She passed away last year, hugging a doll she had, that she thought was her daughter, my mom. This movie hits me hard, because there would always be these random moments of clarity, where she'd ask what was going on, and we'd update her on how all her children grew up well, became successful, her grandchildren too, and she'd smile in relief and say, "I knew it would be worth it, people told me it was a waste of time, a girl going to college and working, but I knew I'd make it".

Yeah... the moment I saw that you were reacting to this one... I knew you would cry. To whoever recommended this for her, and everyone who voted for it, you are horrible, you know what you did, and you are all glorious. Thank you.

Coco was a real woman ,Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero, the Mexican woman who reportedly inspired the 2017 Pixar animation Coco, has died at the age of 109.

Also, there is a legend from Aztec times that if you had a dog in life (a xolo hairless dog) and you were kind to it, when you died, the dog would guide your spirit to the underworld, and protect you from all the things that would try to get you on your way there.

A part that always gets me is Dante's whine as Miguel falls. You can hear the despair because he knows hes not fast enough to catch back up to him

So Dante is a Xolo (short for Xoloitzcuintle), which is a breed of hairless dog from Mexico that has been around since ancient times. The breed was said to guide the souls of the dead, and were buried with their masters in both the Toltec and Mayan cultures. That's why Dante can see the spirits and enter the spirit world while alive.

That's why I watch reactions. Such a genuine reaction made me feel like I was watching again for the 1st time.

I saw this in the theater and I UGLY cried. My grandmother had dementia too, so when Coco sang the song at the end, I absolutely lost it! Fantastic reaction!❤

Apparently this is the next Disney film that will be getting the Broadway treatment. It's slated to open sometime in the next year and a half. I genuinely cannot wait. With the colors, the music and the atmosphere, plus more songs for a stage version, I feel like it could/will be awesome!

dante was always a spirit guide even though he didn't always look like one. when miguel first crossed the bridge, he went from having a warm glow about him (perhaps to indicate his spirit form while in the living world), to having the glow disappear when he crosses the bridge into the spirit world. dante never had a glow before crossing the bridge, which means he was always a spirit guide. dante even helps miguel along his journey in true alebrije fashion by leading him to his family. when miguel leaves the office to 'use the bathroom', it's dante who snifs hector out and leads miguel into the office to find him. 15/10 goodest boy

Gotta give Pixar props for making a kids movie about literal death, but making it bright and hopeful.

I grew up in a very hispanic household, My maternal Mexican Grandmother's spirit guiding us as a true matriarch until the day we lost her. The theme, the homage to the culture, and re-connecting with a loved one who has been mentally declining for some time absolutely wrecks me in the best, most beautiful way. Thanks for sharing this with us, Angela. My favorite reactor watching one of my most near and dear movies.

11:56 the dog is a native Mexican breed called “Xoloitzcuintle”, the prehispanic cultures in Mexico said that those dogs were the guides of the souls of the people that died, so that’s why the dog was able not only to see Miguel, but actually to take him to the place his great great grandmother was.

Today, April 4, is actually "Tomb Sweeping Day" in many parts of Asia where loved ones pay their respects to deceased relatives at cemeteries. Great timing Angela!

Me and my parents were watching this, they're 60+ and they were sobbing at the end of the movie. This is one of the best.

There are a number of references that, if you didn't grow up in Mexico or with a Mexican family, may go over your head. The "weaponized shoe" is the "chancla", the sandal that Mexican moms always threatened us kids to use to spank us with if we misbehaved. The masked wrestler with the silver mask is "El Santo" (the Saint), one of Mexico's original super heroes, the skeleton with the funny hat is "Cantinflas", one of Mexico's most beloved comedians and movie stars. Singers like Pedro Infante are also featured.

This was peak pixar the emotional swing from joy to devastation is rampant. the tragedy of being forgotten is so heart wrenching. I am not one that fears death and ceasing to be, but that loss of memories as your family declines is such a beautiful tragedy to explore. its so existential, the idea that you persist past death on the memories of those you interacted with in life. they can support you in debt with shrines and celebrations, and in making sure others know your stories. it is a beautiful sentiment realized stunningly here.

Just your run of the mill uplifting Pixar movie about skeletal zombies, Alzheimer’s and murder. -this movie is so well crafted. Every character has a purpose

This movie always hits so hard for me. My brother Miguel passed away on November 1st, (day of the dead) 2017 when he was 16 yrs old.. a few weeks later this movie came out and in a way it was like the universe was telling us everything would be alright. When Miguel sang remember me I cried like a baby 🥲

Even after all these years of life, i still get a chill when i see a chancla in a mother’s hand.

I watched this with my then girlfriend/now wife in early 2018. It was the first Pixar movie that I decided at the beginning that I wasn't going to cry, not in front of her. Boy was I wrong!

Coming from a family affected by WW2, the generational trauma in Encanto always hit a little closer to home for me, but Coco is an absolutely heart wrenching and beautiful movie. It's strange I don't connect to it more because here in Sweden we do have a day of the dead where you light a candle by your loved ones graves and remember them. It's not a tradition we followed much in my family though and I don't know how common it is in modern time, but it is a holiday right around the same time as Halloween.

As a Mexican and as someone who watched this movie literally a week after my grandma passed Coco has a special place in my heart, so happy seeing this reaction

This movie is more than special for me - my beloved grandma passed away 2 years ago and she suffered from severe Alzheimer's. We saw her mind deteriorate so rapidly and it was so hard for all of us. For me, this movie has another message (though not mentioned directly) - cherish every moment with your loved ones when you still have a chance, as long as they recognise you and remember who you are...

My 3 year old daughter watched part of your video with me and when you cried she said "oh no! she crying! it okay!" and I thought it was the cutest thing lol this movie always makes me cry, it's so beautifully done. I highly recommend watching Inside Out if you haven't seen it! It's another tear jerker but in a different way than Coco. It's also beautifully done and I think you would enjoy it!!

Coco hits in the feels EVERY TIME

As someone who's extremely empathetic, you're always one of my favorite reactors to watch. A lot of people try to hide their emotions or act like there is shame in them, and the way you openly express yours makes you very relatable and enjoyable to watch. Even with things I don't normally watch reactions to, I enjoy hearing your input on them. The level at which you understand others emotions is the best type of person, in my opinion.

Oh my God, I saw this movie for the first time last year and was totally unprepared for the wave of emotion and torrent of tears that I experienced at the end. From the reveal about Grandmama Coco to the end when the entire family (ghosts included) is singing and dancing together, I was full-on ugly crying. It took about 10 minutes for me to calm down afterwards, but oh man was it cathartic! Such a great movie.

I love your channel, and I'm so glad you reacted to this movie because it holds a special place in my heart, and it's one of my all-time favorites. When my grandparents were alive they used to celebrate Dia de los Muertos and my grandma told me that whenever she passes that she hopes someone would put up her picture and celebrate the holiday so we could remember her. After they both passed, this became the most important holiday for my family. Dia de los Muertos is not Mexican Halloween. It is a day to remember our loved ones who have passed to their next life and a way to have the whole family together and celebrate the life they lived in this world. As long as you keep their memory alive, no one is ever really gone.

11:40 gets me choked up too. Like, I imagine when someone actually passes away that’s a similar quote the family of their loved ones would say so they’re not scared to cross 🥹. My Grandma also had random bouts of Alzheimer’s…it was super rough. She told my aunt my Grandpa and her mom were there for her right before she passed. I watched this movie a short time after she passed and it had me sobbing. At the same time tho it gave me comfort that I’d see my loved ones again one day ❤️.

What happens in the "Remember Me" song is a real phenomen that you can watch in on youtube. For some yet unknown reason some music that is important in a person's life that has dementia or alzeimer can sometimes be used to "bring them back" for a couple of minutes.

I was 35 when I watched this opening weekend and it's the only movie I shed tears for. As a Mexican-American that plays guitar and writes songs for my then 5 year old daughter, this movie struck the right chord in my heart. The part that made me tear up was when the great great grandpa said he was going home to see coco when he died. I thought of not seeing my daughter and I teared up and of course my wife as well. Great movie and great reaction!

I saw this movie while I was in college in the campus movie theatre. When Miguel was playing the song to Mama Coco at the end of the move, you could hear a pin drop in that room. However, when she reaches over and pulls out the picture, someone in the theatre shouted "OH MY GOD ITS A PICTURE OF HIM". The whole theatre erupted in laughter. I think about that to this day anytime I see Coco. Funniest movie experience, you just had to be there.
